Ha, I'd love to see that! Even if it doesn't work out that way, I just can't see Patrick Weekes expecting us to kill him (or maybe I'm being optimistic too). I do remember reading/hearing somewhere that Bioware sees him as an extremely important figure in DA - I think they implied that he was as important as Flemeth, IIRC. So I hope he has more of a role than to lift the Veil and then be killed. Because that would just kill me.
On the one hand that's very encouraging, because Flemeth saved the life of every protagonist at least once and was fabulously sassy the whole time. Then again, she was killed in a post-credit cut scene with no explanation.
Solas was a companion though, and a romance. Surely, surely, that ensures better treatment. It would be just wasteful to so carefully establish this character with three games worth of build up (i remember staring at the wolf statues back in Origins and being fascinated) only to reduce him to a cardboard bad guy.

Patrick Weekes said he's kind of meh on writing cardboard villains. So hopefully, since he's both the lead and Solas's writer, Solas will be a more interesting and nuanced antagonist. Personally I do love him in the antagonist role, though--it's been so goddamn long since one of BioWare's games had an antagonist who actually felt like a match for the PC.

fly!Solas???
I'm thinking not the Fly as in the Jeff Goldblum movie?
This is just about perfect
I was actually listening to "I am the one" when I wrote the beginning, tbh.
I just finished reading and I loved it Droso! I left more comments on AO3, but I loved it.
And I'm totes mad at Aaryn and her rules now. Because you are right.
You are right.

A lot of their villains are great in concept but kind of fall apart in execution. The Reapers were great and scary when it was just Sovereign's 'you exist because we permit it, you will end because we demand it' speech, and the invasion itself felt grand and unstoppable, but the crucible undermined the whole deal. The Illusive man was pretty good though!
I figured Corypheus was so flat because he was inadvertently covering Solas, the Magnificent Bastard Who is Not to be Taken Lightly (And because so many complained about DA2 not having a real villain so they went wildly overboard in compensating). If villain!Solas turns out to be cardboard as well it'll finally be unavoidable that's its just bad writing.

I am excited. I love it. Usually those characters go for the throat in terms of feels. And by the end you're left standing there feeling like '****...was this the best thing to do. are you even the best thing for what i want. does what i want matter. you're kind of the worst. but so is this other thing. but i also do feel like i just made a deal with the devil. I DON'T KNOW' and then you hellspiral out.

I'd be fine with him as an antagonist, as long as we get to kiss and make up after ![]()

I liked TIM until ME3, when he went cardboard villain. As for BioWare's other antagonists, I like plenty of them as characters. Saren, Loghain, the Arishok, Meredith, etc. Even Corypheus, who I feel lost a lot in execution, like you said. But IMO they're just not threatening enough as baddies. Never, in the history of playing Dragon Age, have I ever felt like the bad guy might actually win.
Until Solas went apocalypse boyfriend in Trespasser
If he's done right, Solas could be an antagonist on par with Sun Li or Jon Irenicus. Someone who's intelligent, dangerous, manipulative, and capable of great ruthlessness. Someone who knows the hero intimately--and vice versa. And he's got one thing over Sun Li or Irenicus; he still has enough sympathetic traits to be worth redeeming. He has the potential to be BioWare's most memorable antagonist.

So what if Zevran wants to break her rules without breaking her rules? What if he makes some game out of it, where he teases her, until she is begging him to break her rules?
Think about it, my friend ![]()

I really want to see this now. I assume not only is it NSFW but I probably shouldn't be drinking anything due to choke hazard?
Very NSFW indeed. Did you join our writer's group? It's here:

He's on page 8 of the smut thread.
I actually have an idea for my fluffy fic that just feels so irredeemably cheesy that I wonder if I can make it work in a non cheesy way at all.
Anonymous quagga on the grad AU Google Doc?! WTF is a quagga?

Google seems to think that one of you fine folks is an extinct zebra.

I'm all for cheesy. Bring on the cheese.

Well, I want there to be some weight to this stuff too, but my brain is going toward cheesy sweetness that I...I think I accidentally took all of Maryiya's fluff sense. Maybe i should give some of it back.

I could use a little now. Or a lot to counter Zevran.......he's progressively becoming more and more persuasive that things should happen twice in one chapter and my willpower is wavering.

Meanwhile, my fic idea wants to basically drip with wheels of Ferelden cheese. If there was a way to send you some fluff capacity....

Every big RPG should have two things in it - cheese and WABBAJACK! Oh how I miss turning random enemies into sweet-rolls and chickens with occasional dremora...

My favorite Skyrim mod was Uncle Sheo's Helpful Tips and Tricks. It replaced the loading screen tutorials with ramblings from Sheogorath ![]()
