I had a dream about Solas last night.

 

It was the encounter they had in Trespasser, only much longer and more detailed. Since they met in an area strongly connected to the Fade (the Crossroads), in this dream he used images from the Fade to physically show her many wonders and travesties from Elvhenan while he told the story of the past, instead of just showing. Somehow she also got lost in the shuffle and occasionally wandered through the memories in Elvhenan just like when Harry wanders through the memories in Pensieves. She saw firsthand some of the terrible things done to people there, and asked him something like, "You've seen how terrible this time could be. Why are you trying to destroy everything to restore it?"

 

I forgot during the dream that Solas wants to restore Elvhenan but without the slavery part, but still. I woke up feeling pretty sore with him.

I don't know why I'm bothering.  No-one is going to listen.

I already posted there, and I guess I sounded reasonable because no one went after me. I have a hard time bothering with the edgelords that populate most of the BSN, and anyone who is so assblasted about Solas not being 100% forthcoming with them that they have to write ten pages about it.

 

He had every reason to hold back what he knew, and what and who he was. Several times he said entirely too much, because he got too comfortable, because wanted to have these relationships where he could be honest. I don't agree with everything he does and says, but I understand where he's coming from. I hope that I can find another way and save him, but it may be that he's a goner either way.

 

The funny side of fandom

Sometimes I like to imagine particularly irate or self-righteous elements of fandom as shouting Muppets. The "bring back Warden" muppets are my personal favorites.

Yes, all of the "I'm gonna kill him so hard with blood and fire, this pixel man who totes betrayed me and made me feel dumb, rawr!"

 

Why do people think the Warden is even relevant? It's been 10-15 years right? They should be hearing their Calling by now, regardless of how OP they were by the end of Awakening. The Blight and whatever it is that drives it is really my favorite antagonist in the game at the moment, though. It might be cool if you could do one last adventure with a Warden just to see them in Frostbite, but I find it unlikely that the devs will put resources towards that. There's just so much amazing stuff in terms of expanding on lore, environments and creating new characters, that I'd rather they dump money into for DA4.

No, Sable.  You're going to try Witcher 1 and 2 first, remember?  Witcher 1's been fine so far.  You can survive a few months without Witcher 3 Geralt in his shirtless beefcake glory.  And you still need to finish PoE.

I'm definitely one of those muppets.

BRING BACK MY FRIGGIN WARDEN! She's gone for two games and look what's happened. A Chantry explodes, the Circles rebel, mages and Templars go at it, the Divine and a bunch of other people are blown up, a magister darkspawn creature tries to take over the world (please note Hawke that the Warden's magister darkspawn creature didn't appear to reek havoc across Thedas and proclaim himself as a god. Nope her magister mess is being quite! Hawke fail.), Leliana is having a crisis of faith, we either lost Hawke, a serious moustache, hated Loghain (my Tabris murder knifed him long ago), or Alistair sucks-if-you-chose-to-romance-him-and-weren't-a-human-noble.... Where was I? Oh yeah, back when the Warden was adventuring she ran across one high dragon and now they're all over the friggin' place, Oghren, Shale and Awakening companions have just ceased to have ever existed (yeah, yeah, I get it's unrealistic to have cameos of all your past companions fff realism but Shale is a walking mountain of snark. How does that go unnoticed anywhere in Thedas?), the children of Thedas have all been kidnapped (good thing Morrigan had the power to protect and hide Kieran), a not-god ancient elf is making plans to destroy the world, Flemeth is possibly no longer around to cackle manically and give unhelpful cryptic advice, Mabari's have become dead-eyed soulless creatures, Titans and weird dwarfy stuff, red lyrium, and the Grey Wardens go crazy! The Warden needs to be brought back right now so she can slap some sense into Thedas and fix sh*t!

 

Sorry if your Warden is dead, that sucks and Thedas will burn

Sure, but no one actually wants to hear the entire damn story   We like to think we do.  But the exhaustion over TV shows, comic series, and other tales that overstay their welcome indicates otherwise. 

 

I loved Avatar the Last Airbender, and I know Aang had more tales to tell.  But if that show were now on Book 10, I'd probably be sick to death of it.

The calling is 30 years from joining. Bioware has quietly retconned that to more of an upper limit, but there's no particular reason to think the Warden is getting particularly close. After all Alistair, Loghain and Stroud are all going strong.

Also, the Warden was certianly relevant to DAI given all the potentially deep connections they have to people and things in the plot. I mean, this thread is pretty keen on getting the Inquisitor back to deal with Solas, but the Warden wasn't able to be back in a story where their love interest may have died or got the well stuck in their head or became Divine and/or Evil. Of course, that may not apply to DA4

Lol. But here we are almost a year after the games initial release and more than a month after its last DLC release still picking apart everything we can about Solas-- his motivations, his past, his relationships, his feelings, his thighs *eyes CapricornSun, the reflective power of his bald head... okay maybe that one was just me. A good story always has more tales to tell. The Last Airbender spawned The Legend of Korra which was just a continuation of the Avatar's story. The first Star Wars was released in 1977 and it's still going strong X) ect ect I don't think you can have too much of a good thing, but I do think the longer something is drawn out the greater its chance of being the result of lazy or poorly thought out writing and the harder it is to think of fresh ideas. The Wardens story is only "over" because it would be difficult for the devs to put her/him back in to the series and because they may want to try new protagonists, which I respect. I'm not in agreement though that their story has to be finished (in headcanon it definitely isn't  ). If it was resource possible and the devs wanted to do it I think the Warden could be returned to the world of Dragon Age in a fresh and interesting storyline. 

 

I'm mostly being facetious about the Warden returning... mostly . I do think the Warden has many more tales to tell, but I understand if and why the devs choose not to tell it!
