Soo... replaying the opening of DAI and I'm sure all the graphics are improved since Trespasser.  I've played it enough times to see the difference.

Also, I'm not even at the Pride demon and Solas is approving of everything my Tevelyan does.

Reallllly? Is this confirmed? o.o

On the subject of Lavellot - I... wouldn't put much stock in anything she has to say on Solas or the Solasmance. After bumping into her rants several times over the past few months, she projects a lot onto the situation and insists that her own uncharitable view of Solas is the only correct one. She even manages to take his calm, accepting reaction to keeping the vallaslin, and turn it into a spineless backpedaling on his part. She really doesn't want to see much good in him, so of course her posts won't take it into consideration.

Also she tried to criticize the Solavellan fandom for "having too many white Lavellans" and that pretty much turned me off of anything she has to say. Like, seriously? Policing how people customize their own playable characters? Ugh.

Yeaaah, it's hard to take a person seriously after they say something like that. Especially, since you usually don't know what the person behind any particular character looks like, or what their heritage is. Maybe the Solavellan fandom is all white... but I know it's not, just going by several people who frequent this thread.

I have seen people who make their Lavellans POC with darker skin tones, also criticized for fetishizing/exotifying them not just as elves, but as POC. So you can't win either way, to be honest.

Edited to remove stupid rant.

There were some graphical improvements, yes. Animations, I think were also slightly improved. In general, once old gen consoles were out of the picture, they did a bunch of cleanup and tweaking.

This bothers me that there are those that think we have to play a character a certain way when the writers themselves have allowed. Is F!Hawke /Fenris really worse than say f!Warden/Zevran? Both men were raised in a slave environment, both are bi. Seriously this rates up there with insisting that there be a mod to make Dorian or Sera straight.

The other one that bothered me was the comments on Tumbler about those that choose not to see Fenris as trans. There isn't anything in his story line that leads me to believe he's not male in the physical sense. So why must I see him as such? In DAI we learn more about the Imperium and how they view women, they cannot be warriors or soldiers. I doubt Danrius thumbed his nose at tradition with a trans Fenris, allowing him to learn to fight, and be made a body guard. I guess it's possible but the Magister seems like someone that would stick to the strictest traditions in Tevinter. I love Crem as a character and I love that they actually addressed this. I felt his character was done right.

Wait, trans Fenris? How have I never heard of this? This is something being debated on Tumbler? I don't really hang out there, so I miss out on a lot of the discussions.

It was some thing I ran across while looking for Fenris art. There were a few comments made on both sides, the ones for were a little on the rude side. That those that didn't see it were delusional. I have seen a few FanFics out there that portray him as Trans, but didn't know there was a big issue over it. I don't keep up with tumbler, I just look for art occasionally. :)

I wonder if Solas thinks that way towards himself as well, considering he killed Mythal at the end of the base game.

I always assumed that was the intended subtext to the remark

Huh, I usually feel that people can headcanon whatever they want, but when they try to force their opinion on others even though there is actually nothing in the game that supports it... well, it annoys me to no end. People should be able to disagree without being rude.

Dunno.  It does seem to be running smoother and everyone's faces look better.

I've seen rudeness on both sides (that isn't a comment in support of either side.  I have no feelings on way or the other on this headcanon.  I don't like people insisting that it's canon because his birthname is Leto and then getting unpleasant towards those who don't share their headcanons.)

What?  Really?  Well that just makes me not want to share my Lavellan or Trevelyan.

In addition to the things I posted earlier: Vivienne strikes me as the type of person who gets sh*t done effectively. If your interests align with hers, she's absolutely someone you want in your inquisition. She won't hesitate and she won't angst. And she's pretty open about the way she is and what truly matters to her.

I like that about her too. She just gets on with it and leaves emotions at the door.

I'm trying to think of a single character that offends me and I just can't :P. I usually look for common ground with everyone, maybe it's something I picked up from growing up around foreign home-stays.

People are complex creatures and there's always more than meets the eye. If someone is being a *something-rather*, it's stemming from something painful. Like they hurt because they hurt. Or something.

Why am I even..

Heh. Really? I suppose Fenris' mother made certain sure to tell everyone she chose it as a girl's name from Greek mythology just because she hated Dune and didn't want people to think her child was named after the Duke. I mean. Right?

Oh my word threadmum, I thought you didn't like smut .

I don't really read smut and don't look for smutty art either, but these last two times I sat down to write a particular plot, these things just came out. My characters took over and wanted this. I just typed it.

I think the key might be I'm not fond of overly detailed, process, but give me feels, sensory input, within a romantic and loving relationship, it might be something I can read - which is also what I write. There's some action, some suggestion, a lot of concentration on how they both feel. But I definitely take sexual headcanons with characters, so it feels natural to go there since it sort of just - surprise- happened.

Though this one, I admit, went to a place I wasn't expecting. It was a bit wilder.

These things are sooooo distracting to write though.

Awesome?! I knew that Trespasser was fixed up, but I didn't know if they made any changes to pre-game stuff. Aside from awesome items.

Hm! I guess I need to pay closer attention.

I asked my sisters, who are both half Filipino half white, what they thought of being considered that and my oldest says she doesn't know why she doesn't like it and they my second oldest thinks it sounds more racist and she rather be called a minority.

(snip)

But I dunno, how about the rest of you? How do you feel about the term POC?

As a black American woman, I prefer "POC" over "minority." As I've gotten older (turned 31 a couple of months ago) I've grown to despise "minority." I understand that it refers to proportion of the general population, but in some part of my mind I think of it as (white) people saying I am less than they. I get that not all of them think so (my husband is white), but I've met enough who do to have a preference. I also get that "white" is defined differently in countries other than my own.

With regards to that person who berates others for having white PCs, I see and understand her frustration (I'm always overjoyed when I see Solavellan fanart with a black Lavellan), but I don't think it's anyone's business what people do with their own PCs.

It doesn't matter if the "POC" label or any other label exists, really, because when I walk out of the door, every single day, I will be treated as a black woman regardless of how I view myself. So I will be judged based on the way I look whether I want it or not. And it may be subconscious on the part of the observer, but it's still there.

Edit: So, I'm saying losing the label changes nothing, basically (my belief, anyway).

I'm not privy to a lot of the cultural/historical context that comes with the use of the term 'POC - not firsthand anyway. I'm also speaking as someone who isn't white, but isn't a racial minority either. When I was younger, the term 'POC' ... well I won't pretend that it baffled me, because I consumed plenty of Western media and I'm certainly used to watching movies and reading books full of white people. And even here in Asia, our perceptions of black people are influenced by their portrayals in American media. It greatly pisses me off to think of it, but it's true.

I used to think that 'POC' was just a nice way of saying 'not-white', and why would anybody want to define themselves as not-something? And yes, I consider that naive of me now. It's a meaningful distinction for many people whether they like it or not. I still don't claim to understand the term the way someone in the US might. But if I went to live there, I would be considered a POC, and my knee-jerk reaction is to be a little irked by the term. I'd rather be called by my actual ethnicity than what I'm not, to say nothing of being handily put in a category with everyone who 'failed' to be white.
