I need to go catch up on fanfic. I bookmarked yours for reading after BlizzCon, and I think I missed a chapter of Zevellan too.

 

I may have put my plot off yet again because I felt awful for a few days and all I could write was a continuation with more romantic smut.

 

Tonight, I sort of have actual plot ideas and stuff though. Really. I'm telling them to cool it for a while.

Solas/Merrill.

... I have actually considered this pairing before

Make Merrill the eluvian expert, or Morrigan's assistant. Have her act as a companion on missions. Easily enough time for them to build up a rapport if Halamshiral is done before Here Lies the Abyss (which is the order I think makes sense, since you're gradually moving westward that way).

Merrill is inquisitive, and whilst influenced by her Dalish upbringing, not so strongly bound by it she agrees with everything she was taught - on the contrary, she's willing to disagree and forge her own path, things Solas would greatly respect. She's cleverer than she lets on too - she singlehandedly restores an eluvian by herself. She's seen a lot of hardship - especially if her clan has to be killed - but remains eternally sweet, loving, compassionate, and just this never-ending cinnamon roll in the face of it all (not in ignorance of it, she's not as naive as some might believe by the end of DA2). I think he would genuinely admire that - perhaps even envy it, a tad, Solas is not always so kind despite his attempts to remain compassionate. Most of all, she has an never-ending love of elven history, and I reckon she'd not be fazed by any of Solas' more unorthodox opinions or stances, instead, utterly intrigued - I think that's what would draw her to him. They would just geek out together half the time.

 

I could see it working disastrously well. Until the Temple of Mythal, of course. Could you imagine Merrill dealing with that? I mean, it could have ramped up the drama of that moment a thousand times... but I think my heart would break thinking about it, she'd be devastated (also she'd probably suspect that Solas was acting pretty sketchy for the whole quest - I doubt she'd let him go without answers).

Thing is, Merrill deserves better, really. Actually, nobody really deserves the treatment Solas puts Lavellan through, but especially not Merrill. Could you imagine her going through the vallaslin removal scene? I just... no, I can't do that to her. I have a feeling she'd get rid of it - and immediately regret it.

 

(I don't even want to imagine Trespasser. She deserves better.)

How I write the AU and how I normally write fanfiction are two very different things.  IMO I'm a better editor than I am a writer.  The urge to edit constantly is extremely strong, unless I'm overflowing with feels.  I basically have two writing modes: one where I barf into a textbox, and one where I'm much more careful and aggressive with editing.  I can't switch my brain from one mode to the other; if I'm barfing text, I have to KEEP barfing, or I slide back into picking over every little detail.

I did cry. Good, happy tears. If you want warm, fuzzy feels, it's a very, very good game to play. It's also rather cheap (less than £10 on steam) and relatively short too.

and when you've finished & broken the barrier, go all the way back to the spot you woke up in the ruins. Worth the forty minutes it took me to walk there and back.

Seriously.  Though every time I get sad over Solavellan, I remind myself that I could have easily avoided this by scrapping the Solavellan playthrough and starting again with my Lavellan and Josie being Perfect Disney Princesses ™.  And I didn't do it.  So I have only myself to blame

I don't have the stomach to a no mercy route tbh, I'm content with the pacifist ending to be honest. It's really sugary but by that point I love the characters so much that I am 100% ok with that. And I have so many Asriel feels.

So many. I still think the final battle is brilliant in that so many of his attacks just seem like imaginary games that a kid's come up with - I mean, what adult has their name come up in RAINBOWS and names their attacks GALACTA BLAZING. And it's clear he's been manipulated and used by the first human and I just... want to give him a hug. A very long hug.

 

The only reason I'd do a genocide run would be for more flowey & Asriel, to be honest.
