My Zabrak husband! He really was an awesome character. No romance to be had, but I liked the friendship angle they built in to the game with him.
Last I remember there was a project going on to replace the cut/wonky bits of the game, but I stopped following it after awhile. Did they ever finish that?
You know, I have a Lavellan play through that is right before Temple of Mythal....I should totally be stone cold and dump Solas in Crestwood....then go bang Cullen before Corypheaus.
*looks at plan*
I am a terrible, terrible person.
Terrible.
If only Zevran were anywhere around Skyhold, you'd be able to play through your fic

I really liked him. The fact they have shared history together and their friendship was great.
Though, after a while, my go-to team became Atton and Visas
He looks so sad walking away if you do! I think, no my Lavellen is strong enough to love you, even if you are an idiot. I just can't bring myself to see him so sad due to her choice rather than his own.
Tel'abelas, falon.
Oh boy......this is gonna be rough.
I'm gonna do it for the drama on this play through though.
Hi. New Solas fan here. Congratulations to Bioware for creating such an intriguing (and hot!) character.
I love reading this thread and glad I found it. I love all the in depth Solas discussions. I also enjoy swimming in the shallow end of the pool from time to time. I'm still on page 1242! It's quite funny how for several pages you have these wall of text of intelligent discussion about Solas's motivations and then on the next few pages it will be all about his butt. Haha.
I've completed my first playthrough as a female Qunquisitor who romanced Iron Bull. I was midway through my completionist run romancing Dorian when I decided to switch. Once I've gotten what I needed to get from Dorian, I started another completionist run with my lovely Lavellan. After everything I've seen and read, I felt that the Solas romance is more plot-relevant. I actually thought of romancing Cullen too but I'm over that now. I was not a fan of the character before but he seems lovely in this game. I already know about the heartbreaking romance (seen the vids) so I am sort of prepared for it already. I think.
I look forward to more in-depth (and shallow) discussion of Solas with you lovely lovely fans. I shouldn't really be doing this at my age (38). Ugh.

Cause why TF not?
I couldn't do it. Just watching the YouTube video hurt too much, and I had to stop.
I don't mind it as much when Solas's pain is of his own making. Yes, tragic circumstances, duty that cannot be forsworn, blah blah. But ultimately he made the choice to be a sad egg. But I can't bring myself to cause him additional pain on top of that. I dissolve into tears first.

I can't really break up with anyone - it's so awkward! And then they hit us with sad violin music, the bastards!

Well, good thing this is my "Let's play with everyone's emotions and do whatever TF I feel like in the moment" play through.
Cause yeah...otherwise.....doing this would be impossible.
But the fact that there is an alternate universe inside my head where it is possible.....makes me a terrible person.

We find it best to discuss all that is Solas in as much detail as we possibly can.
I thought I was ready for the hellspiral as well. I'd been spoiled by the lovely music videos done to the romance scenes, I was a puddle. My daughter has been more supportive lately, but at the time she was like "Mom, seriously! He's old and moldy, find a younger elf if you have to have an elf!" I have only completed one Solavellan play through so far. I have another in progress and have decided I need to tell her story
And lastly, these aren't Solas-related but the artist (elfroot-in-emerald-graves) who did those adorable chibi artworks before actually has really beautiful DAI artworks of their male Lavellan and other things and I just wanted to share them with you.

Oh to be under 40 again....lol
I am all for discussing all parts of Solas. In detail. Hopefully with visuals. And sound. I love listening to his party banter/dialogues. Thank you youtube!
I was actually encouraged to post when I saw at least one of the posters here to be close to my age. Most people I know think video games like DA are just for kids. And boys. Sigh.
EDITED to add:
Speaking of Solas parts: My favorite part is his lips. I mean other than his personality and intelligence of course.

If I could write poetry I would write a poem about his luscious lips. But I don't have a flowing way with words, I'm too practical.
Between his lips and nose I cannot decide,
which feature most draws my eye.
Is it the tilt of his lips when he speaks of history,
or the faint splash of freckles that call to me?
And that's my cheese contribution to the thread tonight.

That scene was one of the few in Game of Thrones that genuinely upset me. I'd already read the books, and I got desensitized to HBO's schtick pretty quickly. It was a lot of "Oh look, violence. Sex. Blood. YAWN."
But in the books, Arya never sees how the Freys desecrated Robb's corpse. So I wasn't expecting that, and it wasn't Robb that got me. It was Arya's reaction MY POOR LITTLE MURDEROUS STARK
Ooh Arya was brought up. I adore Arya! If I could bestow any character in the series with good luck and protection from the wrath of GRRM it would be Arya! I've only watched the first season of the show so I never got to that point, but it makes me sad imagining her reaction. She deserves better
I haven't read the books but I have seen most of the season of the tv series... I was thinking of maybe I should because it might be better then the tv series.
It's different. You'll find people who are militantly for one or the other, but IMO, personal preference. The two line up for the first four seasons. After that, the show really starts to diverge, to the point where certain plot arcs are completely different. I almost wish I'd watched the show first, so I wouldn't ragequit at all the changes
The show trims a lot of the fat, which is good, because god knows GRRM needed a more aggressive editor, especially toward the later books. No one needs to hear about every single damn course at the Purple Wedding. But the show also removes a lot of detail from the world. Many secondary characters like Genna Lannister, Damphair (except one scene), and the Brave Companions get cut altogether. The ones that don't are either greatly simplified or have their roles merged into another character.
Read the books read the books read the books! They are excellent books, and although I agree with Sable that it is personal preference I haven't met anyone who has read the books and watched the TV series and still preferred the show! Some of the changes the show makes are pretty obnoxious and some completely idiotic (show spoiler)
Spoiler
Jaime and Cersei rape scene anyone?
but most of that comes from me being a huge book fan! I always gripe about adaptations
Seriously though the books are well worth the read. GRRM has some serious talent even if the two most recent books needed some skimming. The third book is my favorite in the series! Arya and Gendry are so cute and I mean that in the awww cute way and not the "wow two characters get along! They should be in a relationship!" way!
Anyone agrees? I know I do
I wonder if the golden city (Arlathan) would have out-shined the golden sun-gate of Val Royeaux? Because I asuming the golden city most have been ancient Arlathan, right?
YES I AGREE SO MUCH!!!
I've been asked before what time period I'd like to live in and I always say this one or a time period and world with magic! Magic makes everything better *-* Seriously though, not even mentioning the diseases and lack of hygiene the social standing of certain peoples and the superstitious nonsense would be enough for me to say "Ah heck no!". Now superstition is fine if there is actual magic *-* and social issues are fine as long as I can magic someone into a toad for their ignorant comments!
I'm actually really disappointed in myself but I don't recognize all the pictures! I see Narnia and Middle Earth and Star Wars and Hogwarts? But what are the others?
As much as I enjoy spending time in Thedas I don't think it'd be that great a place to live in! I would want to be a mage, but unless I'm Avaar or Rivaini I don't want to be born a mage in Thedas now is not the best time in Thedas to end up there though with all of Solas's craziness going on!
I got Fallout 4 to try it because everyone seemed so psyched about it and it looked good, and I wish I hadn't, because I hate it. this is pish
No vhenan! don't tell me that! I've been so hyped for Fallout 4! I'm getting it for my birthday!!!
I can't really break up with anyone - it's so awkward! And then they hit us with sad violin music, the bastards!
I'm the same way... I can't make any of the awkward decisions! It even embarresses me watching the antics of assquistor! And even though Solas is my favorite Inquisition romance I think Cullen has the worst break up! Solas takes it all in stride probably thinking "Well... that makes things easier for me. I'm off to detroy the world now!" while Cullen has a break up where you can say you just want to be friends and he gives you the most horrible "you are an awful person" death glare. I could barely watch the video on YouTube!
Though which will make you feel worse, being dumped by a heart broken Solas, or breaking his heart yourself and watching him walk away dejected and alone, a lone tear running down his face, then looking down at your hands and thinking 'I did this.'
So have fun with Cullen!
Brutal!
I'm.. going back to drawing Abelas....
Just have to finish his one of his pauldrons, his fingers (ugh chain mail and metal, help me), and find a texture brush to go over some other areas.
Nope, I can't. I can't even click play. My poor sweet noodle
I feel protective of Cullen in DA:I since both my Amell and my Hawke went out of their ways to be horrible to him So he and my Lavellan have a wonderful, platonic, almost-sibling friendship. No unrequited feelings, no weirdness. They're just bros.

I'm still resentful of all those nasty things he said and let happen in the previous games. You can't fool me, Mr slick hair, you flip flop around like a pool noodle!

See, my Amell and Hawke thoroughly deserved all the less-than-charitable comments So while I still think his past attitude about mages got glossed over in DA:I, I'm not upset at him for lashing out at my PCs specifically.
I did cry. Good, happy tears. If you want warm, fuzzy feels, it's a very, very good game to play. It's also rather cheap (less than £10 on steam) and relatively short too.

and when you've finished & broken the barrier, go all the way back to the spot you woke up in the ruins. Worth the forty minutes it took me to walk there and back.
*Inhuman screeching* You plllaaaaaayyyed it! Ahhhhh! None of my friends play video games so I have SO MANY PENT UP FEELINGS over this dumb game.

How'd you like it? What'd you really like about the game - favorite level or character or whatever? Originally I'd have said Papyrus or Undyne, but now I think I have to say it's Sans. My favorite level was probably the True Lab for being so gloriously screwed-up. It had all the best enemies, too.
As for doing a Genocide run - there's actually no mention of Asriel at all. It does explore Flowey a bit more though, as well as Sans and Undyne (They both really shine in a genocide run) and provides a dramatically different experience from a usual run. I'm not sure I'd recommend doing it - beyond the obvious issue of having to kill your friends, there's also the fact that the hardest boss fights can only be found on a genocide run, and they stop a lot of people in their tracks. So unless you're really good with the gameplay, doing a genocide run might be difficult. But I'd definitely recommend watching one. It reveals a lot of interesting information you wouldn't have otherwise.
I'm almost done with it too! So many things...just.. ugh. I love that game. *shares all the Undertale feels*
Undertale spoilers, kinda. v

I did a complete pacifist playthrough and that first "ending" broke my heart! And I am just at the final final ending. I think. It's such a good game!
*More inhuman screeching* You also played it! Aaaahhh!
Spoiler
Did you manage a complete pacificist on your first run? I hear so many horror stories of people figuring they have to kill Toriel and locking themselves out a pacifist run because of it.
