WHO TO CHOOSE? HOW FOR THEM TO BEHAVE? Oh gods, I wasn't prepared to plan. Sudden anxiety, hahah.

 

*hugs*  I'm going back to my Circle mage's very first concept, which was a Dalish mage.  The Circle mage really took off but most of her most beloved personality traits existed in the Dalish mage.  I tend to like moderate characters, it's boring but I can't help it.  The biggest difference is that the Circle mage would have been alone and a Dalish mage has what is essentially a huge family and I need to figure out how that changes her.  Maybe she's a better diplomat for having worked out/watched the Keeper work out disputes more often.

 

I hope they tell us which Vallaslin is for which Creator, even if it can't be put in the CC they could just give us a little chart or something.  I WANT TO BE SURE SHE HAS THE RIGHT MARKINGS, BIOWARE, HELP ME OUT!

I've seen it!  It's a really good best guess of a fan though.  I think they may be right but it would still be nice to get an official word on the matter.

 

Edit: Also from the picture of the elf inquisitor, it looks like some of them may have been changed.  She only had a small one around her eye, right?

I totally forgot about the possibility of new vallaslins! I really hope we have a bunch of new ones, I was maybe planning to use the Mother of Halla one, since my elfquisitor will have a strong connection with them and she loves animals, but I can't wait to see what new ones they have. I've always loved the intricate patterns of them. And with even a scar intensity setting gee, I'll have to spend the first 6 hours of the game in character creation if it's that in-depth

Possibly each clan has their own variation on the Vallaslins? I hope we have some of the bigger ones again, though. I bet we will.

I've considered doing something like this...  But the model would still be female and sound female and be treated female, and so I dunno.  I also had my heart set on the Jon Curry VA.  *throws hands in the air and walks in endless circles*

Looks like the news has finally sunk in for the rudeness to officially start.

 

 

Geh...  I understand disappointment too well, but I really hoped we'd be above harassing the devs.  I doubt it's any of the regulars from around here, but still.

 

I have two main ideas. Originally, I wanted my mage to be a pretty typical Dalish... but what would make her special is that she'd be the cousin of my Warden. I know BWare has said that there's no relations, but SO??? My Warden was always half Dalish, and why should Hawke be the only one with a cousin? Besides, my Surana martyred herself for the sake of elves and mages alike... I need someone to carry on her torch and finish what she started. 

 

I originally (waaaaaaaaaayyyback) wanted my Inquisitor to be a cousin of my Surana (it's my headcanon that his father was Dalish, the son of a Keeper), but I kinda drifted away from the idea.  When we learned how far away from Ferelden the Lavellan clan was, I decided it wasn't likely.  Not impossible, but it wasn't something I was interested in enough to make that much headcanon for it.

 

Also, I think Solas might be more badass/nails. Look at his walk.. The man swaggers. Swaggers! He seems pretty confident.
 

 

But seriously, the guy exudes awesomeness and hotness.  I'm in paiiiinnnnnn.

Indeed, I imagine they have added several new ones.
Out of the old ones then I would probably choose Dirthamen or Sylaise. Even Mythal, I just don't like the bits by the nose xD.

Well, I'm glad it'll be a fairly easy transfer for you! That does sound like a viable variable, though. And I imagine a Dalish mage would be much more confident than a Circle mage, given that they're looked up to instead of essentially spat upon. Of course, Merrill's not exactly sure of herself, I guess... but still, fun things to ponder? 

 

My CE-turned-Dalish would obviously be infinity more familiar with humans and their world... plus she'd have no problems with City Elves, having come from there. So that gives me more room to work with while I get familiar with the current state of the world, which makes her appealing for a first run... However, when I ran her in the tabletop she was fairly jaded and cold. I guess I could evolve it as living with the clan and having a proper home, family, and life has loosened her up? And maybe she could want to spread those kind of positive feelings to other CEs... because I very much like the idea of the Dalish and City Elves working together for the sake of all elves, instead of being divided... That only makes it easier for the humans to dominate them, after all... Hmm... MICH NEWS, MUCH TO CONSIDER. The cousin to my Warden will still be my canon, but at least now I have an interesting mess of a first run instead of just a mess. 

 

Agree about the vallaslin, though. I've seen that link, and it's good! But I doubt all the options will be the same from Origins... Sigh. THIS IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION, BIOWARE. Even just, like, a forum sticky or something... But I guess worst comes to worst, I'll just pick what I think is pretty and tell myself that she chose it because it meant something to her. 

 

edit @ dragondreamer: Hey, that's similar to mine! Mine is that her father was Dalish, but a scout. He met her mother, a CE, and well, family things. (I'd go into detail but it'd be LONG and no one cares, hah.) I can see that being a deterrent, but well, clans do cross the seas (Merrill's.) They could've been in Ferelden at one point and then gone to the Free Marches? Depending on how you arrange the timeline, I think it can work. ...Of course, this is a story line I'm determined to have, so I'm willing to bend over backwards to make it work, hah. I like that I'm not the only one to think of them as related, though!

For the love the Creators, Maker and Andraste's flaming knicker weasles.

 

People can be upset and complain and make comments about how 'we could have had it all'.  I've done it about this game (and ME3, and DA2...).  Everyone, pretty much, has done it at some point over something.

 

But sending hate messages to the developers is not okay.  Personal attacks are never okay.  There is a huge difference between giving criticism and being flat out rude.

The Falon'din one is my favorite, too. I really like all of them, actually. Well, except Mythal's. Poor Mythal. That Vallaslin just resembles wrinkles way too much.

I remember a dev answering a user question about the CC UI and saying it could not fit a description of the Vallaslins (which god is which). Yet, maybe we can get a book/chart in game?

 

 

Anyway, as I remember from the codex, the ancient Elves didn't wear Vallaslins. Dalish Elves chose to tattoo their face to remember to never submit again, after the fall of the Dales.

The Dirthamen vallaslin is my favorite, so I'm hoping it's still more or less the same in DA:I.  It also fits perfectly for my Inquisitor's personality and what I see his goals being.  I always thought it was a suitable vallaslin for a Keeper or Keeper-to-be, so it fits a First as well.

So... Patrick's been getting some... interesting tweets from guys disappointed they can't romance Solas. It's rather funny (does anyone else remember the 'Solas as hot potato game' people were playing a couple months back?)... though Patrick's response is even funnier.

Also... All those tweets about the SP demos really make me want to see them. Hopefully after PAX is over we'll get to see the recordings? I'm thinking that maybe there's an embargo on releasing them like with the Gamescom demos.

It's better if you take the full one for Mythal, I think. The lines that go around your nose just look odd.

 

And I know it wouldn't exactly be lore-appropriate, but I'd love a Fen'harel design. I've always been partial to trickster gods.

 

Really, playing a Dalish is going to be new territory for me. I never did a Dalish playthrough in DAO because my Elf was always a mage. I'm kind of excited now that I'm thinking all of this stuff out. Though I do wonder how our Inquisitor is going to be an effective spy when their face is covered in Dalish tattoos.

Apparently Mike Laidlaw said it was not going to happen. No CC description of the gods related to the Vallaslin.

It's more of a best guess. In a different thread people were hoping that BW would make a blog post or something to explain each vallaslin meaning especially because they're mandatory this time. 

 

The only one I flat out don't like is Sylaise, it's too busy for my taste. 

 

For my dalish full Mythal but faded like DA2 vallaslin.
