Well, you can't forget that Cassandra has a tendency to act rather quickly and sometimes violently or aggressively (like: she wanted to skip the rituals that would guarantee an alliance with Sentinels in ToM, but she approves when Inquisitor lets things resolve without bloodshed) - she sometimes needs a bit of space and time to think things through... even if it means think things through to secretly ship the star-crossed lovers

I don't know what the friend comment says, but the female Lavellan who romanced Solas who picks the heart option says something like, "That's why Solas left! He was helping us with the Qunari! Come on, we've got to save him!" 

 

It's not outright stated, but I think it's implied that Lavellan has been pining after Solas all these years. Between being locked out of any other romance after he dumps her and her rather emotional response (no matter what she says) when companion ask about Solas in Trespasser (before this point), the game implies that she's not over him. Add that to her saying, "Solas left because he's helping us against the Qunari," and it sounds like she's desperately making excuses for him.

I have to admit, Lavellan sounds stupid and naive in that moment, but I like that. Past two years were very difficult for her, so she can't help but try to explain it somehow. She desperately wants to believe that Solas still loves her and left for a good reason and that he is coming back. So in that moment, without thinking much, she just had to say the most stupid thing that ever came out of her mouth. She was probably very embarassed later.

I know my own Lavellan, despite being at core quite excited, didn't really *believe* he was back - I avoided those heart options, and chose something more neutral before the final Trespasser scene. She was still trying to convince herself that she had moved onto a new phase of life and all this elven stuff was just being thrown in her face as a test, really.

Of course the moment she saw him that all kind of melted away and she was like TAKE ME DREAD WOLF.

I have to admit, Lavellan sounds stupid and naive in that moment, but I like that. Past two years were very difficult for her, so she can't help but try to explain it somehow. She desperately wants to believe that Solas still loves her and left for a good reason and that he is coming back. So in that moment, without thinking much, she just had to say the most stupid thing that ever came out of her mouth. She was probably very embarassed later.

 

Eh, I suppose it may depend on the interpretation - she's not wrong about "help them fight the Qunari", despite Viddasala interpreting it as him manipulating events into both clashing with one another. I mean, if we think about it, him just barging into Winter Palace and informing the Inquisitor about Qunari threat would indeed bring more answers than questions and reveal that he has his own agenda/spies in the midst of it - but him silently tipping the Inquisition about the Qunari without revealing his presence lets Inquisition focus on eliminating the more immediate threat... while we do know through notes and reports form spirits in Shattered Library that he's not sitting in the corner and twiddling his thumbs, but acts as a thorn on their side.

 

As for "That's why he left!" part - it may as well be a desperate justification of a girl still in love, or may as well be her acknowledgment that "he left" because of the whole Fen'Harel business - though admittedly the dialogue would sound better if it was "That's why he left! But he's been helping to fight the Qunari all this time!". She's at the peak of a psychological distress at that point though, so I don't hold her sloppiness in either formulating sentences or justifications against her.

I don't see how 'leaving to fight the Qunari' and 'being Fen'Harel' are two mutually exlusive things.  At that point a Lavellan who worked out who he is may have been finding it easier to deal with the Qunari thing rather than the 'oh no, he's the Dread Wolf.  This is the opposite of what a Keeper is meant to do with him' part.

I don't see how 'leaving to fight the Qunari' and 'being Fen'Harel' are two mutually exlusive things.  At that point a Lavellan who worked out who he is may have been finding it easier to deal with the Qunari thing rather than the 'oh no, he's the Dread Wolf.  This is the opposite of what a Keeper is meant to do with him' part.

Despite it all, Solas remains committed to his plans and puts them first - and like with Lavellan, he insists he would not let the child see the monster he will become. Lavellan is heartbroken and raises her son alone.

 

Years go by. Solas continues to work on his plans in the shadows, and Lavellan and co continue to work against him. The child is a mage and now grown, instinctively reaches for his father across the Fade, since half his blood is ancient and powerful. He comes into contact with his father, and comes to learn of his past and plan, and eventually joins him at his side and works with him to tear down the Veil, having become convinced of Solas' rightness. He wants to reclaim the world and glory and power that is his by birthright.

 

Lavellan is forced to kill them both in order to save the world.

 

...I'd buy it.

So you avoided the  options did your Lavellan still call Solas Vhenan, that you recall? Did they kiss? Who was the first one to show that he/she still loved the other?

Solas Junior does not join Solas voluntarily, in fact, he opposes Fen'Harel's plan. However, since he's half ancient elf, he's way too powerful, so Solas has to deal with him. He can't handle killing his own son, so he erases his memory and makes him one of his agents. Lavellan doesn't know this, so when she finally faces Solas, she discoveres that her own son does not remember who she is and wants to fight her.

So I am still trying to catch up to the thread.  I managed to go through several dozen pages yesterday which covers about... 2 days in December.  Whoah.  We are a chatty bunch, aren't we?  

 

This is my favorite thing to do actually.  A hobby of mine to lurk in forums and read the different views of different people in different subjects.  Politics, current events, games, movies, celebrities.  All things.  I rarely join the discussions because other people are more articulate than I am because English is not my native language.  

 

It's not just reading the posts I enjoy but also observing the behavior of the posters themselves.  You can learn about their world views, their personalities and such.  There are trolls sure, but often times, people do reveal themselves in the way they post and the comments they make.  

 

In this thread for example, I have read pages of intelligent and articulate discussion of Solas's behavior, actions and motives.  Based on the comments a select few has made, it seems that they have a very black and white view of the world.  Some are even projecting.  I wonder how they will react to the revelations in Tresspasser?  I am betting not well and I would not be surprised if I don't see these people in this thread on the later pages.  We'll see. I can't wait to see.
