I'll be in the feels corner. Permanently. Fenris, get out of here, man, your level of brooding's no match for what I feel right now. Leave the cheap wine though.
Good, definitely belongs on the Feels and Angst playlist.
I've had both Dark Solas and Lost Elf on repeat for a while and finally managed to pull myself away for a moment.
But now I am definitely back in the feels corner, which might focus my writing again.
The song.. it's called "Lost Elf Theme"
For some reason this gave me massive feels.
Edit:
'd by Sable. Glad I'm not the only one who found it sad.
*lies on the floor and apologises to NS forever*
Did any of you ever do thay thing as a kid where you'd poke at bruises even though it hurt? I feel like I'm doing the emotional equivalent now with Solavellan.
Yes. And yes.
edit: As a kid? Never stopped. ![]()

....Gotta admit, I snickered when I noticed that one of the music pieces is called "Dark Solas" ![]()

Yes, yes I did, I was also a scab picker.. seems I never stopped.
Thanks EA, for suddenly turning this into feels Friday for everyone.
I do know lots of people who play games, but not everyone understands the impact some really have on me. Boyfriend went on yet another rant about DAI today after sending me the Fallout Solas, saying he might try again someday but he felt uncomfortable with the 'pandering' and 'SJW agenda' and 'everyone is gay, bi, or trans' ..no matter what I even tried to say or compare to real life. I mean, we have other issues but these are not atypical. ![]()
So I fill in the gaps by being in places like this and occasionally talk to my real life game playing friends, only one of whom really begins to understand the depth of feelings at work here.
DAI Cullen, who as I said, I tend to separate from previous Cullen because....yeah, would be pretty much the best type of boyfriend iRL. Especially with a dog.
But in game, I just....Solas was more charming, Cassandra was straight, Josie is too much like me, Bull isn't my type, Sera was too difficult with an elf...Cullen is sweet and I just don't know if it was my previous dislike of Cullen, the character I was playing, or what, but I just couldn't.
For me, Cullen is like the perfect shoe that's the wrong size. Much as I want to make it fit, I just can't make it comfortable. =/
(I really wish he wasn't race-gated to just humans and elves. Human noble is too boring for me to play and my Dalish Inquisitors all have too many hangups about their religious and cultural differences. My Qunari especially would just love him to pieces, but alas....)
LOL, same. I found it really interesting how my opinion of DA:O shifted when I played it 5 years later. Alistair was a bit whiney, I didn't hate Loghain nearly as much as I remembered, and OMG Wynne. I loved her when DA:O first came out, and when I replayed it I wanted to strangle her.Mostly I want to apologize to Loghain. He was right about the Orlesians. They 100% suck, and I should have let him go on a murderous rampage through Val Royeaux.
I don't. I wanted to hit him even more.
After his whole "[Orlais] enslaved us" shtick all game and his attempts to justify his countless travesties with "I'm just trying to ensure Ferelden's independence," his decision to sell Ferelden elves into slavery made me see red. Even worse, after I saw how he reacts to an Elven Warden who spares him and confronts him about it at camp, I lost all sympathy. "Honestly, elf," he spits the word like it's a curse, "do you think that among all my crimes, that is the one that keeps me up at night? It's a bit egotistical of you, don't you think?" Hi Pot, I'm Kettle. How dare you call me black! (Apparently it's okay for you to "let the darkspawn take the entire country for fear of Orlais" because you were "enslaved" by them, but an elf who dares to take umbrage with you for selling their friends and family into actual slavery is just being "egotistical" and "irrelevant.")
Apparently to Loghain it's totally okay for him to feed Ferelden humans to the darkspawn and sell Ferelden elves into slavery to Tevinter, just as long as Orlais can't touch them. ![]()
Out of interest, how many of you have friends you can talk to about DA in real life? A few of you mention family/sibling/parent/child reactions to Solas at times, whereas literally nobody in my family even knows I still play video games, we usually just bond over sport or gossip. My brother played a few things in his teens, still plays COD time to time, but has no interest in RPGs.
Unfortunately not many. I have literally nothing in common with the rest of my family, and my boyfriend likes DA but only casually, and everything he likes about the series I find boring and vice-versa. (For example, he loves dwarves while I love elves; he played DAI with a Qunari who romanced Bull and I played one as an elf who romanced Solas, etc.)

I know a few people who played the Witcher 3, and I have a few school friends who I no longer talk to who play similar things - one os a big ME fan in particular, loves anything with sci fi or zombies, another I know is big into Lara Croft and old platformers. But I'm mostly on my own here really when it comes to games. All of my IRL friends are much more into indie films or theatre, really.
I do! Quite a lot of my friends have played Mass Effect and Dragon Age, most of them on my recommendation/at my behest. Spreading the BW gospel wherever I go, lmao. I'm a one-person hype machine.
And the ones that don't, or the ones that only played a bit/weren't into it so much are a] fairly knowledgeable of the games anyway thanks to how often I talk about them/post about them on social media etc and b] are happy for me to talk about it/happy to listen, because they're nice and accommodating and know I like them so much. They're tolerant and indulge me, haha. Sometimes I worry that I'm being annoying and steamrollering BioWare at them constantly but they like how animated and passionate I get, they've said. Which is cool of them, considering I talk about them way too often... I have great friends.
Same with my dad. I tell him all about them all the time and he also listens and indulges me.
His comments on the story/characters etc are entertaining. He jokes BioWare should pay me for the amount of free publicity I give them, hahaha

None. Not that many people I know IRL play games, much less RPGs or BW games.
Why do the Spotify versions of Trespasser themes have more depressing titles than the ones on youtube? I thought Dark Solas was suppose to be "we fight on" and lost elf was suppose to be "the dread wolf"?

Those weren't official titles, just what the uploader gave them.

ohhh, I like "we fight on" more than "dark solas" though. But "the lost elf" is better than "the dread wolf"

Interesting. I thought the uploaders got them from mining game files so I would've expected the titles to match too.

I have a couple of friends who played DA but they're not nearly into it as I am.
Me: ZOMG DRAGON AGE !11ONE!!!!ONE111
Them: Eh, yeah it's ok.
Me: Why do I like you people again? Oh, right you put up with me.
We do all enjoy other games together like The Secret World, the ME series, SWTOR, some of us are getting into Star Citizen. So there's that.
No one in my family plays games.
Lost Elf.
Still sighing.

I think I might finally be at the point where I've exclaimed "GODDAMNIT SOLAS" more than "GODDAMNIT ANDERS."
EDIT: Really? ToP again? OK, let's poke that bruise. Spoiled because I forgot that the Lavellan tarot has sideboob ![]()

Ahem... isn't it kind of one and the same? Kinda feels like it >.>'''
I have to say, Bioware really does a lot to hint and nudge (with a hammer sometimes) that we should proooooooobably focus on saving him...
With regards to playing RPGs: This conversation just recently happened between me and 2 other people.
Person 1: I'm obsessed with TV. I think I follow about 20 TV shows. I arrange my schedule around them, so that I can watch the new episode as soon as it comes out.
Me and Person 2: *nod affirmatively*
Me: It's OK to relax sometimes.
P2: Do you watch any TV?
Me: No, but I play this one video game a lot.
P1 and P2: *fervently shaking their heads in disapproval* Oh, I don't do anything like that!

This was the rationale for my bestie's Trevelyan trying to redeem Solas. Their arc was more like rivalry, because she took huge approval hits with Solas early (allied Templars, saved Wardens), which she made up later on.
She was never as close to Solas as she was to the rest of the Inner Circle, but by the end they had a lot of respect for each other. So she figured it was a better idea to save the Dread Wolf rather than going all-out against him on his terms. I mean, we're talking about someone who can turn enemies to stone and create/rend the Veil.
