 How so? I'm not commenting on the quality of anyone's writing but Feynite's, and even then, I'm trying to be fair and acknowledge what she does well (Which is quite a bit). May I only voice my criticism in a forum dedicated to it? The only one available is the comment section on LG itself, and Feynite doesn't want to see any in-depth criticism there. I'm trying to respect that.

This is not a forum thread dedicated to criticism of Feynite's work. It is a forum thread dedicated to Solas, a character who features strongly in her work, which is why it gets linked here.

 

I honestly wouldn't mind your essays, if they weren't so long and negative, and if I weren't also aware that there are other people here, who write, and are trying to improve - several of whom hold Feynite in great regard (myself included).

 

It can feel personal, to see someone talented getting torn apart on the molecular level, if you aren't comfortable with your own level of skill. That may not be your intention - to drag down other writers - but I am not the only one who has expressed such a sentiment, so perhaps there is something to it?

 

The Fan Creations part of the BSN board is here. I'm sure a fanfiction discussion and criticism thread would fit in well there. The Blanketfort also has a writer's group if you feel like contributing your critiquing skills towards some current WIPs being discussed there.

I'm always ever so slightly irritated by that tarrot card. I mean, she's always Dalish, right? And Dalish live in forests. You try wandering around half naked in a forest and see how long you last. I know its 'artistic' but come on! Imagine the bug bites! The branches snapping into her skin! I am pained just imagining it.

Sigh, I guess so, but it's just the spirit of the thing, you know? Imagine if the Cadash card was randomly naked. As though the carta just chill out in their underwear together, surrounded by fully clothed dwarven statues. It would be ridiculous. 

 

Admittedly, we haven't been invited to an Carta meetings so maybe they do all just sit in the nude, in which case I demand a naked Cadash tarot card. Stop lying about dwarven nudity Bioware!

Ahhhhh. Well. I haven't read all of her work, only bits and pieces. So I don't know why there's a fuss... and I'm kind of walking in on half a conversation here. So if I've missed the point please forgive me!

I will say that, from my perspective, critisizing someone's work behind their back is very much like. Hm. Like Aunties gossiping. Does that make sense? There's no benefit to it except enjoying being critical. I know you've explained that you enjoy a good debate, and I'm not saying you don't bring excellent points up... but I don't think taking a magnifying glass to an amateur writer's work is the best use of your talent. Or at least, not when the writer in question isn't looking for C&C. Instead, I'd try to help people who actually are looking for feedback... and discuss it with them one on one. A critical eye is a very useful thing to have around.

Hahaha. I get it, I do. Doesn't bother me that much... I respect the visual cheats. They are a boon to artists. Elves are tied to nature, so au naturel just clicks, I guess. The art of symbolism and all that xD

It's made me wonder... the way Qunari have an obsession with straps? Maybe they all have a thing for bondage and it's not just their symbolic tie to the Qun.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think, for me, it's hard to get into certain types of fics. And sometimes people write very long chapters. It's why I find one shots and shorter chapters much easier to look over for myself. I don't want to commit to editing or looking unless I know I'm up to delivering within a reasonable time. Lately, not always.

 

So yes, we could use people who are into different types of styles and themes and who don't mind longer pieces.

Honestly, I had to wait for someone to come after 13th chapter of BK and say, "oh, but wait, it doesn't make that much sense," and it was... well. I loved the fact that he/she did, and it was pointed out what and why (although, admittedly, I wouldn't have minded a warning earlier. Which is why I tagged my work for constructive criticism.). It enabled me to go back, and re-edit it, adding more details etc, cooperating with Sable on my horrible, horrible grammar, etc.

 

If it wasn't for that one brave soul, I would know much, much less than I do now. Which would be shame, because even if my fic sucks or attracts minimum of people, I truly enjoy the learning process which comes with it.

 

Solas would be proud.

For a people so obsessed with practicality and efficiency the Qunari use a lot of string in their armour. That's like wearing armour made out of shoelaces. Imagine how long it must take to put on! Then you get one string tangled and you're completely lost and have to start all over again. Honestly guys, try buckles. They're very hard to get wrong, and you can do them up in a hurry.
