oh man, that is fantastic!

Since that conversation, I've created a giant headcanon for lady!Solas, and have a plot dancing around my head based on the idea that Solas was doing much more than she appeared to do at Halamshiral - i.e. took the eluvian passcode from Briala, outplaying her whilst she was at her best. It may involve some brief f!Solas/Briala, lots of flirting between two clever women. Already have a title: Fem'Harel Enasal.

I'm trying not to write it. I'm already trying to write too many other things.

If you write that I'll write the Isabela/Josie piece I talked about awhile back, and the Samson as commander of the Inquisiton piece.

For an incredibly opulent society that has long moved passed subsistence I can see why such abstract deities would be relevent, though not necessarily something they'd invent. They're the sort of traits that ruthless modern Orlesians would go for (except for slaves probably).Perhaps those traits are the weakness the old gods felt in Tevinter and preyed upon. I don't imagine they were benevolent deities, I can see Dumat enforcing a reign of terror with the threat of absolute silence held over an entire empire. Urthemial: your beauty is mine and I can take it away if I so choose. Andoral: your slaves, the chain is not in your hand, its in mine.

I can see Tevinter respecting such a thing.

Oh, absolutely. As was pointed out, I can see why Silence might be a formidable concept in a setting such as Thedas where all of creation appears to have a song of some sort or another. And if I were some lowly human farmer, just figuring out how all this magic stuff works, when a goddamned dragon shows up in my dreams, stones people with a glance, and starts demanding that I call him the God of Guy-Liner and Ripped Black Jeans... well, I wouldn't be too quick to question him either.

It's just interesting to wonder what mindset would drive someone to think of themselves like that - and because I'm perpetually irreverent, my mind immediately landed on "emo teenager." It becomes doubly interesting if you buy the theory that the Old Gods = the Forgotten Ones, and that Solas was counted as one of them. It makes me think of him as Mythal's perfect golden child, before he hit his teenage rebellion years and fell in with the Gods of Fire and Chaos and Other Really Badass Things.

What if Mythal could've quelled his rebellion by just lifting his curfew and letting him get that sweet wolf tattoo he wanted?

My boyfriend hates the ever present kitschy Christmas carols that start this time of year. I think Solas would be equally grumpy :P

Ugh, I'm joining that grump train. My job in retail has basically put me off Christmas music.

I have so far resisted in playing Christmas streams or my playlists. But I love these songs, and thus I know I won't be a holdout much longer.

Solas, I think, would react to the merry gremlins like this:

I imagine with Solas, if it was an actual hymn, he'd go into the history of whatever piece was being played, and how inappropriate it was that it had become mere background noise to our consumerist dystopia, when it was meant to be played in such-and-such religious setting with joy and reverence (though of course he isn't a practitioner of said religion, as much as he admires the spirituality and faith of those who are).

... is this a bad time to admit I used to be exactly that kind of Christmas killjoy? You know, would cynically point out the dodgy historical context in which they were made or the amount of profit gained through sweatshop labour this merry season whilst they're played in supermarkets, etc. The sort literally nobody likes?

I'm trying to reform, honestly. I still can't stand Christmas songs though, there's nothing merry about them.

I get annoyed that Halloween is almost completely overlooked in the UK.  It's like the supermarkets just skip straight to the Christmas displays at the start of October.

Please try and remain grumpy while listening to this and singing along. I don't think it's possible. :P

My favorite Christmas song isn't very merry, but it's kind of typical of me. It's Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas with the original lyrics. It's about struggle and hope to get through.

I feel you. Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night are my favourite festivals and both get completely overshadowed by the tinkling of jingle bells every single year.

Well I guess the alternative would be a darker, less sentimental Christmas song:

Halloween is my favorite holiday too.  But the Christmas kitsch comes out earlier and earlier every year, sometimes overlapping with Halloween.  And I'm like, dudes, it's not even (U.S.) Thanksgiving yet?  Slow your goddamn roll  <_< You should only mix Halloween and Christmas if you're Tim Burton.

Oh, but it doesn't count when the Muppets are singing it. The Muppets make everything better :)

Fun fact: Here in the Philippines, we have the longest Christmas season in the world. Starting as early as September, there is a chance you'll get to hear Christmas songs being played and see Christmas decors being sold at the stores. :P

Which means come October, you get to see Halloween costumes being sold alongside the Christmas stuff. Kinda reminds me a bit of the Nightmare Before Christmas. xD

Speaking of Halloween, we don't place much emphasis on it, focusing more on All Saints Day and All Souls Day (being a Catholic country and all) but we do have Halloween parties and trick-or-treating for fun. :P

Okay, now that I've linked from John Denver and The Muppets, my favorite Christmas album, I think I've officially started. Sing on, merry gremlins.

I would just like to add my own two cents about the holiday music and such.

I don't really care for any of it. Like, the decorations are pretty, and stuff....the music....okay cool.

But every year I watch A Muppet Christmas Carol.

Every.

Year.

And I shall continue watching it every year until I die. Because that movie is boss.

And the music is good too.

I've started too, but with Mythos-themed carols :P

And maybe, someday, I'll talk my boyfriend into letting us do a Cthurkey for Thanksgiving. (Warning: ...Thanksgiving turkey horror?)

ToP:  I will find a way to stick this into the grad AU.  Zomg.

Lavellan would have to somhow stumble on him taking a nap on the couch (maybe Dorian gives her a key for some reason? Or just opens the door for her). and now I can't help but think Lavellan would go OMG, the man has abs and I can't stop staring!

Out of likes, but do you mind if I poach this idea?  Between this art and the qunari armor, I've discovered that I have a massive weakness for Solas abs :P
