Chapter 14 was posted earlier today.  AO3 link provided, nothing different for either AO3 or FanFic yet. Both are still very PG.

And what was it like to you when we still were in the dark?

Before the stinger, first time playing the game? I was still learning about the lore (DAI was my first DA and BW game) the game and the world, so honestly I wasn't sure if I was reading him right. I'm the kind of person who usually withholds any strong or definite opinions about something before I take some time to examine it extensively or think things through - but my impression of him was that there's a lot to like, but there's *something* there that was bothering me.

He was a smartass - and being one I know how they can be :D - so some of the attitude or comments that are or could be seen as disparaging I didn't mind that much, plus I've made many decisions that he approved and quickly my first Inky became his friend. Still, like I said, something was bothering me and I couldn't put my hand on it. The stinger has put an end to that, even though there were still a lot of questions about Fen/Harel/'godly' status till Trespasser.

Still, it made me like character more - not just because of character on his own, but also the type of character; I have A Thing for "immortal wanderers" or kind of unusual beings trapped in the world - I like stories with them, or about them. I got the vibe of that when I was playing DAI for the first time, but given lack of context I didn't know if my suspicions about his "otherworldly" status were substantiated, so in the end, for me, the stinger was a pleasant sort of surprise.

As for Trespasser, I think one of my first comments after playing the DLC probably sums my feelings appropriately:

I can't help it - I think I like him more now  :D ...Probably because I suspected and put a bet on the whole "I must destroy this world to restore mine" from the beginning, therefore him being revealed as tragic antihero and next-title (maybe even more?) villain is NOT really as much of a shock as it seems to be for some people.

I have to say, that even though this DLC went into places many here hope it didn't... I am content. One of the reasons I waited anxiously for this DLC was I couldn't really firmly place Solas' role is in the story. Now I do. We don't know how this will end yet, but we know it will continue, and that our efforts throughout Inquisition and this DLC will likely matter in quite a few ways. Inquisitor and Inquisition isn't done... This is pretty exciting!

.... also, waiting for DA4 will be a pain in the ass  -_-

I mean both, yes.

After watching my Quizzy stand on the balcony all on her lonesome, the post credits stinger was a relief. Before hand I was thinking 'you had better have a bloody good reason for this, you little punk.' That he turned out to be Fenharel in disguise (and technically responsible for the Breach in the first place) was at least something, even if he didn't have the nerve to tell us about it.

Without that, the ending was crushing, It made my quizzy feel like Frodo 'the world has been saved, but not for me'. Her clan was dead, her best friend Cass was leaving to be pope-ified, and she had accidentally turned Leliana into a hardened murderer (she prefers the soft squishy murderers). At least if her boyfriend was going to walk away without explanation, he may as well be the super special one of a kind ancient trickster god.

As for me personally, I was thrilled! I'd been studiously looking for anything on elvhen mythology since the first time I played Origins (mahariel set a trend), so to find it actually relevant, albeit wildly incorrect, was awesome.

I don't necessarily expect a drastic change, but what opinion did you guys have on Solas' character before and after the reveal?

Before the reveal...

I thought he made sense, mostly. There were times when the dialogue seemed poorly written without the Dread Wolf context, but I let it slide because SOLASNESS. I enjoyed his smug John Lennonesque views and his sincere personality. Right on! Power to The People! The Dalish are small minded posers! Blood magic is ok!

I'm probably one of the few people who was never mad about the dumping. I think I ended up liking his character more because of it. The animations in that scene were so subtle. You could tell he was cutting out his heart despite himself. I wanted to know why. That ending alone on the balcony was like Bioware slapping me in my vallaslin-free face.

Also...you know that thing when a girl is totally out of a guy's league, but she proves just what a gem of a soul she has by seeing the diamond in the rough...that's kinda where I was with Solas. "Only I'm awesome enough to see how great this 'boring' bald guy truly is, and he's all mine! HAHAHAHA!" I kind of think this is a problem with me. I generally like liking things other people scoff at. I avoid popular things like they're the plague. No Cullen for me. Anyhow...

After the epilogue reveal...

Everything made more sense. Generally it made me respect the team's character crafting a bit more. The revelation was a surprise, but I was not surprised or particularly miffed that the character had kept that secret. It made sense.

The game had already convinced me that the Dalish views on the Dread Wolf and the gods were wrong, so I was...just really curious about what was going on and if my Lavellan would get the chance to put things right. I was more annoyed that my diamond is the rough turned out to be the sparkliest gem of the bunch than anything else. I preferred him as a hobo apostate, but I don't think my opinion of his character really changed much. He was still Solas as far as I was concerned. Perhaps his character seemed a little more hopeless after the reveal. The problems of a "god" are likely much harder to solve than those of a hobo apostate. He is a project, but I don't mind getting my pc's hands dirty.

Later, Trespasser just reinforced and even elevated my existing opinions of his character. Maybe some of what what we found beyond the eluvians will prove to be exaggerated propaganda, but the sentiments in those mosaics are true to his character. He is a freedom fighter. He is a hero who has lost his way. He is complex and beautifully flawed. He is more than I ever would have imagined when everything began, and I can't wait to see what happens next. Bioware did such good work with him. Elfy McSchmexy Pants: my favorite Bioware character ever.

It would be quite awesome if they officially announced the next game on the same day that DAI released a year ago.  It won't happen but it would be cool.

Patience is, like, hard and stuff.

Before We Knew: I knew there was much more to the man than we had been led to believe. He was too coy about what he knew and how he knew it. His first error is that he cannot hide his education. The man oozed intelligence and was too formal to be a simple wandering hobo. But people 'see' what they want to see, and rarely do they look past the physical trappings to see the true person beneath. He was more noble, and far more intelligent than anyone else, but all they saw was a simple apostate. Iron Bull might have gotten close with some of his observations, but even he didn't try to look beyond the outward appearance.

When he spoke of the Orb, I knew he was tied to it somehow, but never thought he'd let Corypheous just have it. When we learned that Cory couldn't be killed I began to think it belonged to Solas and that he might just be the Dread Wolf, if not then he was one of his loyal supporters. He knew too much about the magic, the orb, and elvhen history to have learned it in his dreams. So even before the Temple of Mythal I knew he was much more than he appeared. The Temple and Abelas confirmed that for me. This was with a Human Trevelyan Mage as my first playthrough. She may have romanced Cullen, but I had been enchanted by the apostate hobo.

When he said Tevintor built their empire on the bones of my people I thought, wait, bones? In other-words the elvhen empire was all but gone, the humans simply came in an took over what was left. The scene between Haven and Skyhold was when I began to really look at him, listen to what he said and re think some of the dialog from him earlier.

Oh and when Abelas told them Mythal was murdered I was like "Oh Crap! Flemmeth has Mythal's spirit!" (Yeah I put it all together, but still loved that there was enough I didn't see.)

As we wandered through the different regions and saw elven ruin after elven ruin, and multiple statues of the Dread Wolf I believed that what we had been led to believe about the Dread Wolf was wrong. When he left at the end of the game, all but broken over the loss of his Orb. I was like "Well, crap, what is really going on, and what is his role in future events?" I actually squealed with delight when I saw the end scene with Flemythal. It left a lot of questions but confirmed most of my suspicions.

After

Honestly I was feeling pretty smug. I had guessed most of it, and was certain that he wasn't the bad guy we had been led to believe he was. So I played the Dalish Elf to see the romance side of the character, and I still believe he's not this terrible antagonist that is going to destroy the world. Is he capable, yes, but I think he's struggling with what he thinks is right for the elves and his own nature, which is to ease suffering not cause more. Lavellen has just made it that much harder because she has shown him that there is beauty in this world, even if he's still trying to deny that. Thedas is flawed, and maybe he knows something about the blight that spells doom for all unless he does something drastic again. If so I would support him and try to save the world. I just hope this is the case and he's not planning to just destroy the world to bring back an empire that had already destroyed itself through war.

Alright! I am back!

After FINALLY getting my hands on Trespasser and finally playing through it, I deem it safe enough for me to post here again.

And cry. How is it possible to be heartbroken when I got exactly what I wanted.........

OK. *sniff* Putting that aside. I have to say, us theory-crafters are awesome. We totally nailed it. We nailed it so much that by the end of the DLC the only thing that sort of surprised me for a moment or two was that I lost my arm. Apart from that, I'm pretty certain that the writers just lurked on this thread, read all the posts and made it into a DLC.

Seriously, I really don't get what I'm going through right now, all I know is that it's complete agony. (Maybe because the story isn't exactly finished...?) I even got to say every line that I wanted to! Mostly. More importantly: I heard every line I wanted to. I keep re-hearing it because I reload the save over and over.

GIVE ME BLANKETS.

Around mid January 2015, there were very interesting philosophical discussion - the Train/trolley thought exercise.  This came about when discussing the Kirkwall mages who violated - yes, IMO, violated - the spirit of Wisdom, Solas's old friend.  I always let him kill the mages.

So the train thought exercise - You've got 5 strangers tied to one train track and your loved one in one train track.  You have control of the track switch.  The train is on track to run over the 5 strangers.  What do you do?  Me, I'd be hard pressed to not save my loved one.   I am a bad person.   :(   I promise, I am only like this in video games!   ;)

Also some discussion about whether Solas is a racist for his harsh criticism of the Qunari.  IMO, people are conflating Qun the religion against Qunari the species.  We know now that any species can follow the Qun.  IMO, Solas was criticizing the religion and not the species.  I agree with him.  I do not like it when other people forces their ideology on me.  There is no free thinking in the Qun.  So no, Solas is not a racist for criticizing an ideology.  He would gladly share a meal with any species as long ass they can have healthy debates or play chess or talk about other interesting stuff.   ^_^

Before the reveal I thought Solas was what he claimed to be - an apostate living mostly alone and enjoying studying the fade. Obviously I noticed that he was evasive, but I thought that he perhaps was forced to leave his clan because he had different views and simply didn't want to talk about it. Since I role-played my character to be very enamored with everything Dalish she was first a bit put of by his attitude, but then she was fascinated by all his knowledge. I didn't think to much about his reluctance in entering a relationship - my character flirted with everyone, and since Blackwall also showed the same hesitance it seemed like it was a thing (in DA2 both Fenris and Anders shows the same reluctance). However, before he broke it up with me I was accidentally spoiled about who he was, so I handled the breakup well (although I was secretly hoping everything would sort itself out *sigh*).

After the reveal I was a bit mind blown, not so much by the reveal itself but by the fact that I had a week earlier dreamt that Solas turned out to be an eleven god... and then completely dismissed it. :P With Trespasser I expected something big, but admittedly I did not expect him to have such... world-changing and possibly bloody plans. I'm still hoping that things are not what they appear and that Solas, with the help of the Inquisitor, will get a chance to redeem himself.

On a completely unrelated note: I dyed my hair red today, and since I already have blue eyes I'm trying very hard not to walk around speaking with an Orlesian accent and ordering imaginary spies around.  :D

There's a reason this thread changed its name to the Blanket Fort

*gives many hugs*

Yeah, I have to hand it to the theory-crafters on this thread - I was not really surprised at all by the revelations made in Trespasser, only really by the extremity of Solas' plans, and that's because of their well-thought out, well-reasoned arguments and theories.

Around mid January 2015, there were very interesting philosophical discussion - the Train/trolley thought exercise.  This came about when discussing the Kirkwall mages who violated - yes, IMO, violated - the spirit of Wisdom, Solas's old friend.  I always let him kill the mages.

Oh, I had no idea the mages were from Kirkwall! Do you have a source for that?

Also some discussion about whether Solas is a racist for his harsh criticism of the Qunari.  IMO, people are conflating Qun the religion against Qunari the species.  We know now that any species can follow the Qun.  IMO, Solas was criticizing the religion and not the species.  I agree with him.  I do not like it when other people forces their ideology on me.  There is no free thinking in the Qun.  So no, Solas is not a racist for criticizing an ideology.  He would gladly share a meal with any species as long ass they can have healthy debates or play chess or talk about other interesting stuff.   ^_^

I don't know if you've played the game with a vashoth inquisitor yet, but if you manage to get to the balcony scene, he makes a remark where he's surprised - he calls qunari brutal and/or savage, I forget which, but he at least implies that's his opinion of the whole race - and says that you're not like the rest of them.

It's meant to be a comment of respect but it's really derogatory at the same time, implying your race is inherently inferior and congratulating you on being not like them? Like, what a back-handed, ignorant compliment. I know my vashoth rogue was just internally like 'ok... no', nodded politely, and just passive-aggressively avoided Solas for the rest of the game, and he is the calmest, most easy-going character I ever played. I'm afraid what'll happen when my vashoth mage gets to that stage, she values her friendship with Solas much more, I reckon if the option existed she'd kick him off the balcony at that point.

I think that's the only really racist thing Solas has said, and I'd almost be willing to argue that it's out of sync with some of his other views on the qun and the qunari, there was a discussion not that long ago about a banter where he argues, conversely, that the qunari are not inherently savage monsters, it's just the qun that teaches them to think of themselves that way. That's at odds with the dialogue on the balcony.

I think you're correct to argue that disagreeing with a religious doctrine does not in any way or form make someone racist. However, that one remark irked me as a player.
