I absolutely love this, too! Brainy is so the new sexy B)
I also love how they picked the Immortal Game, one of the most famous and brilliant chess games in history (actually won by a chess master Anderssen in 19th century!), for this match. So elegant and beautiful, like a mental ballet  (yeah, I know, I'm weird that way).
Then again... have you noticed how damn fitting this game choice is? Solas pretty much sacrifices everything to win. In the very end, he sacrifices even his queen. That's like, yeah... not significant at all... :crying:

I've got "Hot Discipline". So yeah...

I've been wondering about this for some time now. I know it was released as a trailer for DAI, but in fact it looks like a trailer for DA4! Think about it. Morrigan is talking about a war that's already been going on for some time. Iron Bull's (Qunari?) betrayal is hinted on. "World torn asunder" could very well be the result of Solas destroying the Veil (the video footage - darkness in the air, the torning skies, the demon meteor showers, it doesn't look like it's the Breach happening, imo). Faith lies in ashes - well, if the truth about the Veil creation gets out and around, I could totally see the Chantry crumbling. And the final choice is nothing like in DAI endgame (there's no way for us to lead the world to it's bitter end with Corypheus), but it looks like in DA4 we indeed could, by siding with Solas?
Also, the dragon. I am so going to headcanon that the dragon is Solas. Since he took Mythal's power, and Mythal could turn into a dragon, and I think all evanuris could turn into dragons anyway, so yeah. Plus, dragons are HOT.

I agree with you, it does sound more like a potential DA4 (or even DA5). I'm curious if the last person we see rising in the sandstorm is Solas, because that would imply that his "resting place" was somewhere around the Western Approach... which, coincidentally, also is the place where one of the Archdemons seems to be buried.

I do doubt, however, that we will be given the option to either vastly change the world or not - that would mean the end of the franchise, and I doubt that is happening as long as the games make money. It wouldn't surprise me if another, as of yet unknown, party will appear along the horizon and change the game.

@Ivy:

Yessss. I'm on board. I wondered the same about the green dragon, eek. Hope that works out for him, if so . "Faith lies in ashes", 'I see the sun through the ashes in the sky': this 'sun' I suspect is in the fade or relates to the fade, especially considering the Maker is symbolized as a sun. So once their Maker is revealed to be not the Maker, their faith lies in ashes.

Excite.

It'd be funny if they just re-released that trailer for DA:4.

I wouldn't put too much stock in that first DAI trailer. Basically all of it was alpha footage that was reworked or cut. Most notably the scenes with Varric are from the original Crestwood storyline that was shown at PAX Prime in 2013. The dragon was mostly a place holder dragon for Corypheus' fake archdemon. The figure in the sand was debated to be Hawke.

It's actually fun to go back and watch the old trailers.

I was going to write "Don't be such a killjoy Lynroy", and then I realized that it rhymed, which made me think of the book The Scarlet Pimpernel ("They seek him here, they seek him there..."), which in turn reminded me of the awesome movie from 1935:

And now I want an AU fan fiction with Percy and Dorian working together with the Inquisition to find Solas and change his mind. So much fabulous and sass!  :D

And yes, my mind tends to wander a lot!  ;)

It's fair to call the Dalish "Evanuris loyalists" I guess, but I don't think it's really as complicated as that. All modern elves most likely descended from elves enslaved by Tevinter that were first released from their bindings to gods by actions of Dread Wolf. And since Tevinter did a lot to destroy elvhen culture or supplant it with their own I don't think either the Dalish or city elves had much to go with when it comes to full picture of the past.

I mean, coming from a country the people of which had to deal with both long periods of oppression or eradication of culture I do know how easily many things can be twisted or romanticized. Heck, even many "historical" things I learned in school - in our new, free country - turned out to wildly inaccurate, INCLUDING our conviction that Poland was always predominantly a Catholic country (Poland has a long tradition of religious freedoms in fact and was a haven for heretics for a time being), which later led to the Church meddling in our political affairs and trying to dictate the lives of people... bah, they still do!

And I can assure you - the reveal of the truth that some beloved myths we cherish had met first with disbelief and then an outrage. Some still live in denial and are pretty aggressive about protecting our 'glorious past' that was 'stolen from us' (what's worse - many of these people now got their turn to govern the country and it's already getting pretty scary...), by West, Russia and whoever else... and that's despite the fact that during last 30 years we actually became something of Europe's success story when it comes to economic transformation, overall development and gaining of global political importance (we're the 6th economy of EU! Our former prime minister is current President of EU, goddammit!).

Uh, Solas, Sera, I COMPLETELY understand you... To hell with traditionalists and their desperate clinging to the past not only long gone, but hardly ever accurate

Coming from Ukraine, I can SO get behind this.

Haha oh dear, my husband picked up the hairstyle before it got popular (what a hipster!) and was pretty disappointed when it became a trend. He had a short pony-tail at the rear of his head, but now he's taken to putting it in a bun  because he wants to grow it longer. I convinced him to try Dorian's hair style in Tevinter (yaaaas):

Avzf17w.jpg

MVEmr2i.jpg

It looks like an undercut that's just grown out, right? He doesn't have the receding hairline, but he looks after himself like Dorian! He's regrowing his mustache with a bit of a beard, and I get to keep his eyebrows tidy for him :P.

It looks like his current hairstyle - shaved back & sides, but where he's kept the sides shaved and allowed his hair to grow out.

Agreed that Magister Pavus with his longer hair is super attractive though. I almost like him :P

I don't think I really fell for Dorian as much as everyone else did - he's far too clever for his own good, he needs to be told when to shut up now and again :P . No seriously, his opinions on slavery always ticked me off. I know it's just a case of upbringing, and that these opinions have never been challenged, but still. My first Warden character I've headcanon'd came from a family of travelling elven merchants which fought to be free of slavery two generations ago, so it's a sore spot for her - and for me, coincidently, because I often view a lot of DA through her eyes on the first play through. Until Inquisition, I was utterly convinced Tevinter was literally the worst Thedosian nation that ever was, that nothing could beat how despicable it was, it was formed through a history of violent imperialism, slavery, and irresponsible blood magic which made it the worst. Meeting Fenris has done nothing to change that opinion. So I rolled my eyes at the chance to meet the son of a Tevinter magister, given that every other magister character I have met was either attempting to capture and sell my family or friends into slavery, I wasn't particularly thrilled.

The revelations about the elves in DA:I, as well as some sympathetic, varied portrayal of Tevinter - most of In Hushed Whispers presents Tevinter as having more complicated politics than previously thought, Dorian is obviously quite charming himself and has some interesting opinions, particularly on magic, and we also get to meet Krem, a character who comes from the civilian class in Tevinter as well - means that I've changed my mind. One of my favourite things about Solas as a character is that he gives Dorian a lot of crap for coming from a slave-owning class and never thinking to question it. Nobody else bothers to challenge Dorian on that - asides from a one-off conversation a Lavellan can have with him.

I've seen a Swedish version of the musical at the theater, but nothing obviously beats the original! I have all the songs on discs and I've seen some of the performances on Youtube... Douglas Sills seems to be one of the most talented musical singers ever!  <3

Well I was going to wait to announce this at Christmas, but I know a few of you have already seen on Twitter. BUT- I said I've been really busy and that's why you guys haven't seen me around this forum lately, except to post cryptic hints once or twice. But here's the deal, I am really busy- but mostly really tired, nauseated, and kind of bloated.

Because I'm pregnant!

WITH TWINS!  :o    :D  <3

Anyway, so that's my big news! I'm only about 8 w 3 d pregnant right now, so everyone who could send any prayers, karma, juju, whatever, in my general direction that would be great. I've had a loss before, so we're of course both nervous and excited, and so far everything looks great- we've seen both beans and both heartbeats and all my numbers look good, but it's still very early and still a lot could happen, which is why we weren't going to tell right away, but honestly I'm way too excited.

I am taking name dragon-age themed name suggestions, something cool my husband won't notice is DA related. He's already nix'ed Alistair. Killjoy.

Anyway, carry on! Miss you guys! <3

Congratulaiton and I'm sending possitive energi to you, I hope you receive it :)

There is a huge dig site in the Western Approach where you can find an "ancient Warden logbook" which details how the Grey Wardens were attempting to locate one of the Archdemons. They had to abort the attempt because of some mysterious "thrumming" that even scared of the darkspawn. You can read the logbook here.

And I sing along to the songs all the time (when no one is around of course, I have a horrible singing voice). I think my favorites are Madame Guillotine, Into the Fire, She was There and You are my Home (that song is so heartbreakingly beautiful!). The movie is probably the one that is closest to the book, but it still takes a lot of liberties with the plot. Still, Howard as Percy is spot on!

This is interesting because remember in one of the first trailers there is a green dragon but it never appears in game? I've been wondering if that trailer isn't even what happens until DA:4 with the veil actually coming down for real. The foreshadowing would be huge.

Dragon-Age-Inquisition-Dragon-Age-%D1%84

Edit: it looks like the dragon fly-by in the Western Approach. Who knows.

Well the inquisition was meant to be longer at first so... From what David said in the interview video link a while back. :?

Yes that's the one, can't believe I wrote the wrong year! You can find the whole movie on Youtube + the sequel (they sadly changed almost every actor, but I still like it because the new lead is still good enough).

We should start a group: DA-fans who also love the Scarlet Pimpernel in every shape and form... we will probably be the only members though  :D

As for the singing I'm guessing it's a cultural thing, I know here in Scandinavia people would give you really weird looks if you sing in public. Ukraine must be more fun that way.

I'll sing and sometimes dance-walk around. It's life, enjoy it. A friend and I once walked the morning streets of a small Spanish town with linked arms, singing My Favorite Things.

The Origin sale (NA only?) is on now, and everything DA is on sale, including DAI DLC. They're all $9.99 and the Spoils of the Qunari/Avvar packs are $3.32. In case anyone wants a cheaper way to put Solas in revealing armor.

Hello thread.  My Solas thread adventure is more than haflway through. After scrolling past the dozens and dozens and dozens of pages of drama, I finally found a post that clearly and concisely expresses my thoughts on Solas.  Thanks OP Solas for saying exactly what I have been failing to express in this forum.  :D

^ I sometimes feel like I have an unpopular opinion on the end to the Solasmance lol.. I'm not gunning for needless angst/drama nor for a fairytale fanservice happy ending - my only wish is that it's well written (which I'm sure it will be) and stays true to Solas as a character. Whatever the conclusion to the arc is, I just hope it isn't a betrayal of his character for the sake of fanservice.

Just putting it out there that there are Solas fans like me who are here because they enjoy the character because of the character.  The romance was just an enjoyable side benefit.   ;)   Not saying I'm anti-romance at all.  I have said something similar in one of my posts here but I think it came across as though I was anti-romance/anti-Solavellan.  Not true!   :D
