Violet's my Varric nickname for Nia too.
So...the Violets are dominant? Perhaps merely indomitable.
Violet is lovely pet name for Lavellan due to the meaning of the flower. It is good luck to dream of violets. They are also symbols of purity and death and rebirth. They were thought to be charms against evil. The meanings of various colors of violets have interesting Solavellan ties:
white- modesty and the desire to take a chance on happiness
blue- steadfast faithfulness
I put violets in my latest fic just because of their meaning. I don't believe any of this mumbo jumbo. I've just been interested in the folk beliefs involving the meaning of flowers since I read Hamlet in high school.
I think Solas's plan will be a combination of the slow arrow story and the chess game. We're all so focused on him tearing down the veil. What if it is a distraction? Those Eluvians are pretty useful. Easy to move troops with those and go warring. Could also easily move innocents out of harm's way like children. I still believe he really wants to tear down the veil but maybe it's after the elves have their freedom.
I don't know about Solas freeing all the elves first. That seems like it would divert a lot of energy and resources. He did help with the Qunari invasion, but starting a new war would not give anyone comfort and peace before he "ends the world." If he warred to free the slaves of Tevinter, many elves would probably suffer and die in the process.
Somehow your post made me connect some interesting dots. A legend of the past becomes a prophecy of the future. The slow arrow story? Perhaps Solas may end up not saving his people in time, but instead he will save their descendants (restore their "effective" immortality). I'm beginning to think Sandal's prophecy is definitely coming true. The veil is coming down. It's just a matter of when and how. Then again I'm seeing red herrings and Chekhov's guns everywhere I look these day so meh. ![]()
I know.. that's the point I tried to make in one of those "Why hate Solas" thread.
We really don't know much. He only speaks in a way that you cannot understand. It all seems like a metaphor.. cause he says he "destroyed the Elves world". But it's not like they died.. they just became mortals and lost connection to the Fade. So when he says he needs to "destroy this world".. it might be similar, which does not include genocide. And the Inquisitor is just dumb asking silly questions instead of asking the most important one: "How is this going to be?". Nooo, she/he freaks out and goes like "What do you mean destroy the world? We arent' people to you?" etc etc. Wow, chill.. she just jumped to the worst conclusion
And also I do not think Solas is tricking the Elves.. A codex you find in Trespasser says that the Dread Wolf only leads those who follow willingly..
So I'm quite sure he told them the truth and they agree with this whole thing. And even in case it requires their death, they may still agree and think that the sacrifice is worth it to bring a better future. Which tbh I would agree with as well.
If for instance there was a way to "reset" our humanity to before wars, racism, hate, phobias etc etc started to appear, and create a future world where everyone lives in harmony.. well sometimes I think I would be willing to do that..no matter the cost..
Am I that crazy?(Please don't hate me)
I don't think you're crazy. It would be better for the people of the future.
Solas wants to change the world overnight. Radical change bothers lots of people, especially when it has high costs. People over on that other thread are kinda "modern thedas/status quo"-centric.
John Lennon's "Imagine" should be freedom-fighter/hippy Solas' theme song I think. "Imagine all The People living life in peace..."
So many things we don't know. Which makes me really really excited for the next game.
Will tearing down the veil really equal genocide? Will elves become united behind Fen'harel? How can he be stopped? Will the Evanuris escape despite Solas saying they are forever banished to wherever?
I want the the DA4 now!

One last thing before, I forget, I wanted to point you all to the outstanding film The Fountain. It's been one of my favorites for years, and I think other Solas fans would enjoy it too. These days it tugs at my Solavellan heart strings. If you've seen it maybe you know what I mean. It's a beautiful film.
*Note Hugh Jackman's egg head also.
You may want to skip it if non-linear plots bother you.
Guys... you don't need to try and justify Solas' plan in order to be a fan. Many people love Loghain despite what he did.
Solas says it plainly that this world will be destroyed. That's why this isn't an easy decision for him.
He is a morally grey character and that's fine. You don't have to go "No, no, no, he would never do anything wrong! Ever!"
I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I don't think there is a single character in DA that has never done anything wrong - that is also their charm and what makes them so much better than many other video game characters. I just wouldn't say that it is obvious what he means because he doesn't use those words - he says "even if this world must die". It is possible that he means that people will die and civilizations crumble, and if so it is horrible no matter what his motives are (the people of today is not responsible for crimes of the past). However, it is also possible that he speaks in a metaphorical sense and that the world as it looks today will die, that there will be a change of power and structure. Obviously, that would probably mean bloodshed as well, but no more than any other revolution Thedas suffers from time to time.
Judging by the way he acts and talks I do think the former is more likely than the latter, but one has to remember that he has not gone through with it yet; up until that point he may be swayed. Some gamers will support what he does, others will hate it, and that is fine and as it should be. My inquisitor can love him if he only changes the world order, but not if he causes mass deaths of innocents. I will love his character either way, because he is so nuanced and makes you question what is truly right and wrong (and not just about this, he made me look at spirits in a whole new way).
And now I need a cute animal gif again...

And then there are Solas, Vivienne, and Cole in the back.
Needs more frilly cakes.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I know a lot of people here don't celebrate it..so just have a happy day. :-P
Edit: They don't really look all that happy. Too much ale and not enough pie. :-P
Oh! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here who celebrates it.
Hope you all have a great one!

The reason they look so tired and unhappy is because it's a direct copy of the Avengers shawarma scene.

Peoples....there's been something nagging at me a while...your opinions please?
The elven "gods" got full of themselves and it became the powerful vs the oppressed slaves.
The Imperium got full of themselves and it became the Magisters vs the oppressed slaves.
The current Templars got full of themselves and the mages had enough of being oppressed so it was the Templars vs the mages.
Is history repeating itself? Will Solas realize that? If he starts the world over, does he realize the cycle will likely just start again?

Solas never says anything plainly
He implies that the world may be destroyed, and when asked what was supposed to happen when Cory unlocked his orb, he says "while the world burned in raw chaos" he would restore the elves. I really don't see it being as cataclysmic as it sounds. If anything Solas seems to give us the worse case scenario of what might happen, not what will happen. I want to see the veil torn down at least I think I do. I do believe it is going to cause some natural disasters, we see what happened to the buildings in the crossroads and the library. Had the eluvians not been disabled though, elves would have been able to leave those places. Instead they were cut off. There is going to be a great change in magic, and a shift in the power base, it's not going to be pretty, but I don't think it will destroy everyone but the elves.

Most Likely but My lavellan gave him hope of trying. "If we don't keep trying we never get it right". In the scene after temple of Mythal quest.
I've lurked some of the many earlier pages on this thread for a while now, but I had to finally post something after finishing Trespasser for the first time last night (I know, I'm late)... Oh my god, my heart is broken into a million tiny pieces i'M STILL CRYING;;;
The pain is so real, how do I move on from this, you guys?! I needed a support group very badly, but I don't know anyone irl who's played this, so I came here, plz hold me![]()

bemyfriends
This is worse than any breakup I've ever been through. I only pray we can somehow save Solas. I BELIEVE IN HIMMMM.
(I foolishly went into this DLC thinking it was gonna be like Mass Effect's Citadel DLC HAHAhaha.....)
But, mad props to Patrick Weekes because never in my life have I encountered a villain as well done as Solas. Blew my mind twenty times over.
Is it weird that I can't see Solas as a villain? All I can see is this lost, guilt-ridden, broken and tired person... And I just want to give him a hug ![]()
Anyway, what I meant to say is I know how you feel. Believe it or not, I am still putting off finishing the Trespasser because I don't feel brave enough
Incidentally, my poor Lavellan is stuck in this never-ending limbo of anguish and uncertainty. Ugh.
Here, have some kitten therapy:

Hmm. I guess I just feel like... the Dalish aren't entirely blameless for it? I mean, I can understand them trying to defend against cultural assimilation, but if it's to the point where they're killing people who disagree, then their victim status doesn't really protect them anymore.
Out of curiosity, what would you have him do? I'm not sure simply leading them in disguise would work. They wouldn't believe a city elf, wouldn't trust a Dalish who showed up out of nowhere (and probably isn't wearing Vallaslin because, c'mon, it's Solas), and trying to lead them in animal form (Assuming Solas can even manage that in his diminished state) runs the risk of them just misinterpreting everything they find.
(...Although that last one does give me the neat mental image of a PO'd Dread Wolf watching from the bushes as a bunch of Dalish echo Evanuris propaganda with one hundred percent sincerity...)
Haha, thank you for that picture ![]()

I think it's worth bearing in mind that the codex entries are not meant to be entirely objective, neutral pieces of information, but are scraps of info written in game such as records by chantry scholars, adventurers' journals, collected notes by a harhen, propaganda posters, etc. Do you know the exact source of the information?
The entry in question, if I remember correctly, was one of the little story tidbits you get whenever you unlock a door in Fen'Harel's sanctuary. It talked about how he wouldn't force the slaves he freed to join his rebellion, and how he asked spirits to work for him of their own volition instead of forcibly binding them into his service.
Buuuut, it was also one of the entries that Solas himself says made him out to be better than he was. One on hand, it does speak to his desire to build his forces from those who are informed of and willingly support the situation. On the other, it may have ignored all the cases where he lied (even if only by omission) to get people to follow him.
Art break. ![]()
Solas didn’t move for hours, only staring into the eluvian’s glass
I wish it could, vhenan, he repeated over and over until the words no longer held any meaning.

A scene from Looking Glass, Chapter 7: Pride and Lavellan are surprised that Curiosity has now obtained a body.
Hahaha that was me as well!
Solas: "I suspect you have questions"
Me: You bet I do! For starters, where did you get that AMAZING armor? And also, why did you never consider a long-distance relationship? With your fade-kisses that could totally work!
- Exposition and lots of drooling later -
Solas: "... But still some hope remains for restoration"
Me: YES, together we can tell the Dalish the truth, find the old relics and ruins, bring back the forgotten Elven magics! I'm soooo game!
Solas: "I will save the Elven people, even if this world must die"
Me: We will Solas, we... Come again???
- More exposition, less drooling and more shock -
Me: Uhm... I... you once said that when you met me you felt the whole world change, why do you have to change it again, you stupid pretty elf?
- The End Credits roll -
Me: So the bastard stole both my heart AND my arm???

Don't forget about the gear in the main game!
"Solas, you can take my heart and my arm, but I will never forgive you taking my dragonbone scepter and that 10% crit ring!!"
