I'm absolutely terrible would love to see the outcome of something like this. Can you just imagine his face and the result of realizing he was being that betrayed, that used? It would be so heartbreaking and painful. It would be beautiful. It would also make Mythal as beautiful and terrible as we've come to expect her to be. Just imagine it.

 

On the other hand, I do also agree with what Sable said as I was typing this, I appreciate that Solas is who he is without apology and doesn't shy from what he considers his responsibility. That's refreshing, and I'd hate to see him reduced to just another unwitting idiot pawn. Though I expect he'd still take responsibility for having been an idiot and for the things he did or chooses to do regardless, it would still fit in a different context.

 

It's a struggle I have had since Trespasser.

 

 

I certainly agree that no matter the outcome or manipulation, he'd feel insurmountably guilty either way. Though Mythal just manipulating him to use him... eh, I believe she has her own plans and that we haven't seen the last of her in one way or another, but openly manipulating Solas to malicious ends? Yeeeah... I have my doubts.

 

Many scenes with Solas or Flemeth hinge on the body language or some visual cues to catch what's going on, and that embrace they've had in the post-epilogue seems genuine - I don't think we've ever seen Flemeth physically comfort someone in such fashion and sound so sad and soft (she sounds... well.. motherly ;P), and we've never really seen Solas mournfully, but readily accept that small piece of comfort before the inevitable happens. Whatever is going to happen next and whatever Flemythal has put in motion will likely have an effect on Solas plans or fate, but I have a feeling it'd either be something gray, or something that maybe will help him move on.

I don't mind facial hair, it just bugs me when people draw him with it because Solas can't have a beard canonically. Elves can't grow facial hair, just like a child born from a human/elf pair can't have pointed ears, as the child will always reflect the non-elf parent. It's funny that Bioware wrote elves not to be able to have beards tho, and still give you a bunch of skins for the male elves that have visible stubble. So annoying and inconsistent.

I remember Blackwall commenting to Solas that he has never seen any male elves with a beard, to which Solas replied something like, "then you have not seen many elves." You think he was just joking, then? Or... could there have been elves with beards in the past? Lol. Hey maybe the veil took all their facial hair as well as their immortality.

Edit: Oh! I just caught up. You did talk about this already. So it was just... patched out, huh?

Well, since creating the Veil itself almost killed him (he was so weakened he needed to sleep for millenia and was still weak when he woke up) this would be impractical.

If the Veil guards against a great evil, he wouldn't want to risk it being removed if he dies.

Besides, it was probably not clear just how bad of an idea it was back then. He says multiple times he thought he knew everything when he was younger but realized he was wrong later.

It only became a desert after the second Blight, because it killed everything.

Actually, we don't know that it isn't tied to him in some way - the changes to the Veil seem to affect him in some way. I mean, aside from being hypersensitive to it, in way only Cole may match him somewhat, he says in the Fade sequence with Inky that he planned to flee and go "somewhere far away, where I could work on solution until the Veil's effects reached him" which suggests that the Breach and rifts in the Veil might as well affect him, hence diminishing him in terms of level of power, up until Inquisitor seals the Breach for good and perhaps closes more smaller rifts across the continent. It may also be why he can hardly do anything about his imprisonment in future Redcliffe - the Veil was shattered, and therefore he was shattered as well.

 

Anyway, I assume that tearing the Veil down is a more complex process than we think it it. Obviously he doesn't want the Veil to go down the way it did in the dark future, and who knows if it won't go down the same way eventually, after we kill him?

 

I also have a feeling, that despite the Veil creation exhausted Solas to a point that he was recovering from the effort for millenia, he may have intentionally kept it in place in order to keep the Evanuris in wherever he banished them, or to contain the Blight, only to tear it down later, as both he and the world has recovered somewhat. As if - it's part of a bigger plan. He "had plans" after all to do something with the Evanuris prior to the orb's destruction. And though he was likely at least partially aware how it affects the world, that year he spent after waking up must have really shaken him.
