Hello in the Blanketfort!

 

I've been enjoying all your posts as a lurker, and it's been so much fun.

 

And well, I'm here for some consolation. In my first playthrough, my Quizzie romanced Bull (and I thought it was really funny and charming and a little bit hot).

 

So I wasn't prepared for the angst of a Solasmance, which I have just finished with a second, quieter Lavellan, and I loved it, although I also found it rather lonely and sad. And of course I am still dealing with all! the! feels!

 

SNIFFLE.

 

I'm just about to dive back into TRESPASSER with this more quiet, elfy-elf Quizzie (my first time through as a Solasmancer), and I can already tell I'm going to be a weepy mess by the end. Even before the soaring music and Solas-ness.

 

I mean, if you had told me that I would find a videogame kiss HOT before this, I would've said you were crazy. But yeah: Solas is quite the kisser. Good lord. I was practically falling out of my chair by the second one. In a good way.

 

But seriously -- great romance, wonderfully complex character. 

 

Even though I was actually depressed by the Solas Dumpage. I mean, it really felt like way too many conversations I've had in the real world. She thinks everything's great, then BOOM. Devastation.

 

I'm a fiction-writer and playwright in real life, and I was bummed enough to the degree that I actually wrote a fan-fiction (a short play) just to get it out of my system! (It's totally dumb but funny, in which my Lavellan goes to the Herald's Rest tavern to get blitzed with the whole gang, where she drinks a dozen pints of Maraas-Lok, weeps continuously about Solas (and all the elf-research she had to do), and then basically hits on everyone while Leliana tries to keep the entire situation contained (including the fact that Quizzie is running around Skyhold drunk and in her pajamas). Bull and Dorian end up carrying her out (and we hear her shoot fireballs at a passing Solas).

 

Sigh.

 

I was pleasantly surprised by how intensely romantic the Solas storyline was, but it was also kind of lonely. Like many of the posters here, I badly wished for more conversations and cutscenes -- we get so many with the other characters but with Solas! However, paying attention to the banters really helped to bring home what a fascinating character Solas is for me -- I think he's incredibly complex and well-written, and I have a lot of thoughts about his motivations which I'll try to post later (let's just say I think he's beautifully written and that it's no accident that his name is a homonym for both "solace" and "soulless"). His almost palpable loneliness also really affected me -- I got angry with him but couldn't ever hate him.

 

However, right now I need to look at baby goat videos now before I can even think about going forward with TRESPASSER. Sob.

Well, really, time is rather flying, isn't it? They'll announce the next one any day, and then we'll be going through a new wave of feels and angst. And then we'll leave the CC and start playing the game.

 

I still haven't dipped into the Andromeda stuff yet, but I expect that will have my attention when they start showing more of it next year. Waiting for DA4 will be much easier then.

Totally agree with the above points. I've enjoyed BioWare romances before, but this was the first one I ever REALLY got into. I've actually resorted to writing fanfic, for Mythal's sake!

 

And the dumping...Solas dumped my Lavellan the day before Valentine's Day. I was inconsolable 'cause I'm crazy like that. BioWare truly created a beautiful character. I never expected to find such depth in a video game.

Funny, in all my college style and grammar courses we never discussed run-ons. I don't like relying on vague memories of a 2nd grade writing lessons. It's creative writing though, so run-ons are okay? Maybe?

I'm not the grammar police so I wouldn't know. I rely on Office to tell me I'm too wordy or some such and then I go back and cut them in half and see if I still have a coherent thought written down. I still get comma placement wrong when in a hurry, it takes reading it back to myself and paying attention to natural pauses that help me place them and limit the number of run on sentences. I was terrible at sentence structure as a kid, somehow I did it right, but couldn't tell you how, and I'm still not sure I know what a prepositional phrase is.

 

(Hmm, I reset Firefox because my home page was messed up and now auto spell check isn't working, so if there are typo's above my brain can't see them)
