IS this the one in the Hissing Waste (the one at night?) Somehow I managed to come in from the back right above the last Dwarven ruin and enter there before fighting the dragon. Being in that spot seemed to help shield my group. I did it with Dorian Solas and I think Iron Bull. Lavellan was a KE I know I had Dorian and Solas, and maybe I had Cole because of it being after the break up. I switched between Cole and Bull to get banters to trigger, was hoping for the chess match, and the Dorian Bull romance, but didn't get either no matter where we traveled.

I basically held to the right side of the map until I found a way in. I always have trouble finding that one. If it's a different dragon I haven't got any special tricks.

The Guardian is the boss in the Deep Roads from the Descent DLC.

I beat it with good advice from the thread by max upgrading and equipping healing potions, regeneration potions, and healing mists. Then the companions have to do ranged attacks as much as possible, since if they get too close they'll get crushed. Cassadra might last if you build her as a tank and get the best armor possible.

I'm not great at battles, just repeating some of the advice I remember getting. Hopefully others will have more!

Catching up on things...

Dunno about the timer, but I see no reason why the shouldn't give us an option to mess up the redemption path - in fact, I'm counting on it. If Leliana can't be swayed from killing Natalie after we pick choices that make her more ruthless in the game (and she has an arc similar in many ways to Solas'), I see no reason why we wouldn't be able to do that to Solas - though I assume choices from DAI will also factor in here.

Hmmm... I wonder if saving Wisdom will play any role at all in DA4. In fact I wonder which choices will actually matter?

Choosing to redeem or stop at all costs - well, obviously.

Drinking from the Well or not - that too, though dunno how.

Saving Abelas and Sentinels - I have a feeling that they'd make an appearance (probably with Replacement Elf for Abelas if killed and Abelas is not killed), though whether it'd be something negative or positive for Inquisition, we're yet to see.

Who is Divine - indirectly perhaps, but yes.

Telling Cassandra to reform Seekers... I have a feeling that it's important, due to entire Tranquility ritual and bonding with spirits of Faith.

Disbanding or Keeping Inquisition - it will matter, but I assume that we'd be able to mitigate either the limited resources or infiltration via choices in DA4.

Banishing or keeping the Wardens - no frikking clue. But I assume that this decision will be influenced by who we leave in the Fade.

Finishing Descent - given that Descent has only one tile, I assume that whatever contact we'd make with Titans or Valta will be influenced by that.

Possibly also whether we turned Cole more human or more spirit, I think.

Bring in a lightning mage too. Also, if you have a rogue who can hit that lyrium nub thing, whack away. The bad thing is the AI for dual-wield rogues can be iffy. I initially had archer Cole with guard on hit and he was my squishy link. Brought Dorian in, while Cass tanked, and I whacked at the lyrium thing and we barely, barely made it.

I just took that Pottermore test and it told me I'm a Slytherin. I haven't read the books and I've only watched the first movie, but Snape was a Slytherin, and he's my favorite character, so I'll take it :D

I got Slytherin on my first go. But I got Ravenclaw on my Second. But I got 80% for Slytherin and 70% for Ravenclaw, 30% for Hufflepuf and 45% for Gryffindor. For my second round, I got the exact same, but Ravenclaw 80% and Slytherin 70%. I guess, it depends on my current mood whenever I'm Slytherin or Ravenclaw, but I pefer Ravenclaw becuase that's were all the nerds are and I'm anti social and I love to read books, but I guess I have a Slytherin side to me, too.

It's all relative, and no one is that easily pinned down, but a list of Hufflepuff traits is like a pretty perfect description of me.

Goodness, the sorting hat talk is bringing back good memories. I've not visited Pottermore since it first became available. Team Ravenclaw here.

Heh, our top 2 are the same, I was 80% Slytherin and 70% Ravenclaw too! Then 54% Gryffindor, and last Hufflepuff, that, was about 30%

Just caught up...

The awesome, friendly, loyal, and accepting people.*

*Disclaimer: I may consider myself as fitting in Hufflepuff. :P

I've always seen myself as Hufflepuff, but Pottermore placed me in Ravenclaw. :P

Hufflepuff is basically house underrated and underappreciated. ;)

The wiki has some basics:

Yes it's sad that Hufflepuff is pretty much the under-appreciated and underrated house. :(

The only notable characters in Hufflepuff I know are Cedric Diggory and Nymphadora Tonks.

I'm a Ravenclaw, and it surprised me when Patrick confirmed that Solas was one, too - I had assumed he'd be Slytherin, but apparently that was a misreading of his character on my part.

Beautiful artwork of Lavellan with the Fen'Harel mural.

Gorgeous landscape artwork of Solas and the Breach by nipuni.

I suggest checking out the source link for the little bonus she added since I can't seem to copy the image link for some reason.

In Trespasser when you go to the Davaraad, there's sea out west. That would mean it's either: the Boreic Ocean, Colean Sea, or the Volca Sea.

If it's the Boreic/Colean, it means we're in Qunari territory (Par Vollen or Seheron). If it's the Volca, we might be nearby the Tirashan that Leliana mentions having Elvhen activity (those that worship the Forgotten Ones). There's also a mention of the Volca in a codex in Trespasser.

It looks as though the Davaraad had similar treatment to Skyhold, being built upon by the new owners. There is a statue to Ghilan'nain and Solas' self portrait beneath the new build so it appears it was originally Elvhen territory.

The stars match too: if you look NW in the Hissing Wastes they seem to be in the same constellation patterns.

I find it interesting that most people here are either Ravenclaws or Slytherins - I can't see any Huffelpuffs, and only Elessara and I are Gryffindors. I wonder what that says about the people who like Solas? ;)

Really, the Hogwarts Houses are just a terrible metric for quantifying a character. It's like the DnD alignment system - it doesn't really allow for nuance and deviance, only strict adherence to a certain set of stereotypes.

This. I adored the books but was ecstatic when the Sorting Hat spoke out against sorting into houses (which I loved and thought was a plain directive toward where the series had to go). Then Rowling seemed to abandon any attention there, and while I will always love the books (and surprisingly, the movies from 3-7 onwards), I feel like she missed a huge opportunity. The hat was right. They should NEVER have been sorted. The sorting itself may have shown the meek they could be greater, but imagine being sorted into freaking Slytherin. I wish Harry had been sorted there. What a more complex story it would have been!

As for the writing groups. Someone can add you to the AO3 group. I think drosophila? And if you want to join the group we have on here, just use the link in my signature and I can just approve the request.

Thank you so much for helping me navigate all this stuff. I'm very new but am (obviously) obsessed, so am looking forward to taking part. And I truly appreciate all the warm welcomes and putting up with my constant Likes and Quotes! But, um, you know... the rest of the world just doesn't quite get it. So many thanks with my newfound Solas obsessions.

You're a mod there too, a bunch of us are.

Yay!  :wizard:  :wizard:  :wizard:

For anyone new to fanfic who doesn't know how to share it, here's what to do.

  1. If you don't have an AO3 account, go to http://archiveofourown.org/and click on the button that says " Get invited".
  2. Request an invite. It will take a few days before it arrives in your email. You can write while you wait :D
  3. When invite arrives, follow the instructions and create an account.
  4. Write something!
  5. I suggest writing the fic in google docs, then copying and pasting the finished thing into AO3's text editor. That way if AO3 goes down, you still have your baby.
  6. When uploading the fic on AO3, in the field called "Post to Collections / Challenges", type "BSN Solas Thread Collection of Fanfic Eggcellence (Blanketfort)". You only need to type the first few letters and the option will pop open for you to select.
  7. We'll add the fic to the AO3 collection when it's submitted.
  8. Don't forget to drop a link to it over here!
  9. If you need help with anything - writing, posting, tagging, anything at all, or if you're just interested in hot elves, yarn, flies, tea, or goats, come and post on the writer's group.

Have fun :D

I'm not worthy! Thanks so much for posting this. I just didn't quite know how to proceed, so I very much appreciate this quick guide. Please feel free to throw things at me if I make mistakes -- it was a huge help.

I've posted chapter 1 of 3 on a Bullmance story (but with big Solas conflicted feels) for my Quizzie 1, at http://archiveofouro...apters/12569996. I also plan to post several other Solas-specific pieces over the next week -- (1) my "The Post-Solas Breakup Tavern Crawl (script), and (2) Chapter 1 of my Solas-mance, "I Will Not Live While Sleeping."  More to follow!

This is such a lovely detail. My Inquisitors are both drawn to the sea, so this was a wonderful detail.

HP houses: I'm actually a Slytherin, always have been, even after I strived to be in Ravenclaw the sorting hat knew better. I did have a thought this morning though that Dorian would actually be put into Slytherin too given the clean mage bloodline and probably the fact that at 11 years he might still be striving to make his parents proud. Regulus Black was in Slytherin and turned out to be not that bad, also Snape, ( <3 ) who can say Slytherin is only the house of the villains. Quirrel was in Ravenclaw for example. ...I could go on.

Fanfiction: I read everything in the Looking Glass universe including the one I pretty much blushed through, and it still makes me blush when I think of it. Sad thing is that now I want a Pride / Dorian Gray (Penny Dreadful) picture or well, story, and it is getting written in my head and it might come out and I am afraid....

I've been thinking....

Fairly recently I've replayed all origin stories in DAO, just before I went to finish some stuff with my Surana - and the mage origin story made me wonder about a certain possibility.

We meet Mouse - apparently small lost fragment of soul of a mage killed before their Harrowing was done. He helps us along the way, is very critical of Circles and thinks the Harrowing is a cruel practice, which most mages are set to fail. Helps us with some info and is there when we fight spirit wolves, of all things. Most of the time he references demonic entities like Sloth or Rage as "spirits" too.

And then in turns out that he was a demon who tested us - a Pride demon as well.

And I keep thinking... could this be Solas in disguise?

I mean... why not? It doesn't seem that the mage Warden was ever in any danger of possession, not truly - no matter how gullible future Warden is, we can apparently never fail our Harrowing. The Pride demon simply reveals itself after we defeat Rage and leaves the mage with a sound, if a bit philosophical advice ("Keep your wits about you, mage. True tests never end.")

Question is, of course, whether Solas would go this far with deception, going as far as to either hide his true nature from not just the mage, but also Rage and Sloth (or, alternatively, make them work with him), buuuuuut... since a.) the Fade is a place where what's real, or true or not is hard to discern b.) we do know that things are generally easier for Solas in the Fade, which very likely means donning different masks c.) we do know that prior to his awakening, he's been slowly losing his old identity, perhaps this could actually be considered a possible first encounter of the fabled Dread Wolf in the franchise?

Hmm.  I'm not certain what the point would be for Solas to do that.  Unless the mage was an elf.  But even then I don't think there'd be much of a reason for him to interact with some random mage in the Fade like that.  Talk to them maybe to gather information perhaps but the Pride demon asked few questions.

A few things to consider though ...

He awoke a year before the events in Inquisition.  Before that he was asleep and dreaming in the Fade.  He was probably aware of current events due to the information he was able to obtain from other spirits and dreamers in the Fade.  How long had he been planning his restoration of the elves?

To be honest I was under the impression that the Pride demon that possessed Uldred was the same one you met in the Fade.  It was something with the way you spoke to Uldred during the Broken Circle quest that made me think this but I can't recall off the top of my head why.
