......this would be the most......frustrating thing ever for my Lavellan.
Ever.
And cruel.
For reasons.
*sigh*
I mean, it would be cool and all. I guess.
But not fair. Really.

This is what I want too. I don't think it will happen where we have a direct sequel and returning protagonist, but I wish it does.

I want this to happen as well. Though I'm open to the possibility that we might not get this. ![]()
(BTW if DA4 ends up with us playing a human-only protagonist, I'm gonna be so mad.
)
EDIT: Oh! I didn't notice that I now have a Jade Empire symbol under my icon. ![]()

I sincerely hope we get to play as our Inquisitor in the next game also. Heck, I wouldn't mind giving the dual-protagonist mechanic a go if it's pulled off well. It wouldn't feel right, at least to me, for a new protagonist to personally deal with Solas in a way I think only a friended/romanced Lavellan can.
EDIT: Just realized something. Not saying it should be a thing, but imagine how awkward would it be to have the dialogue wheel for both returning Inquisitor and new protagonist? It'd be like talking to yourself, and it'd be especially weird having an argument between each other in an endless loop.

Equally as valid. I'd like to keep my protagonist. I disbanded so not as Inky, but I'd love to see her continue her path. Alone, as dual prot, somehow (but not a cameo. My Hawk is still silently whimpering).
But I'll be happy to see DA4 no matter. ![]()
Till then, taking screens and doodling naughty pictures.

Ditto! Well, except for the doodling naughty pictures. I can't draw. It would be two stick people going at it and that just seems .. wrong somehow.

I wish someone would doodle the semi-naughty pictures I have in my head. (I did manage to write them down, a short slightly nsfw comic could be drawn based upon that maybe.) Anyone into both Looking Glass Pride (a more mature version) and Penny Dreadful Dorian Gray just give me a heads up and I can share the... description.

As for the art comments. I do wish I had more drawing ability. I wouldn't draw the naughty stuff
but I'd love to draw my character in various situations. At different times. Maybe some cute drawing of her and her girlfriend from the happy times I wrote for her. Or in other moments. Complicated Solas feels. Peaceful, loving moments.

The naughty stuff is easiest. Seriously. No haggle with clothes, armour, much expressions...you move to the feelsy stuff after that ![]()
Also, I totally adore the general consensus that Solas has freckled shoulders.

I agree with you about the naughty stuff. No need to worry about drawing those pesky clothes and armor, especially if the armor is detailed. It takes me forever to draw armor tbh. (And I cry a little inside... Ugh! xD).

I have a few specific moments with my characters I wish I could draw. Most of them are semi-naughty.
But mostly I wish I could draw my mental images of modern day sentinel uniforms. ![]()

One thing I forgot to add that replaying the game as a Solas romancer recently, I couldn't believe how much I had missed before, especially about Fen'Harel. It was an entirely new experience (and far richer) replaying in actuality. And as it was, every time I passed those wolf statues, I seriously had chills. Then I remember finding the shrine to him, and again, serious goosebumps, as my Lavellan was standing right next to Fen'Harel himself. I mean, that's amazing.
My guess is that he's controlling the Haven dream to look like Haven. And if he wanted to, he has the capability to do much, much scarier things in dreams.
And naughty, lovely things, too. That's important. (To me, at least. Seriously. Sigh.)
It's odd to me that the Inquisitor has never sat Cole down and grill him about what he knows. He's known who Solas was all along. And knows lot of little bits and pieces about his past.
Mine totally did. In my latest playthrough (first time Solasmancer, and OH MY GOD ALL THE FEELS) -- it was kind of hilarious. She just stood there and stood there and talked to Cole and talked to Cole and honestly, I was surprised at how long he kept responding. Then after perhaps a dozen, he did wind down to just "Hello?" But when she came back, he did it again, and said several very surprising and interesting things. I'm fascinated to try to decipher them all.
If you return to Val Royeaux after the end game you can hear a servant speaking about having a nightmare where a woman calling herself Mythal spoke to him. So Flemeth might be dead, but I think Mythal is a very different story...
I just caught this! And was so interested to hear it! I love little moments like that, little rewards for those who pay attention. Or who are simply, ahem, obsessed, and just cannot quit this game. (raises hand)
More than just interesting, I think he's a very beautiful character. From the moment he appears in that book till the very end, he's a bottomless well of snark and feels.
I really recommend The Masked Empire. It has many other great characters as well.
The really rewarding discussion of Felassan and The Masked Empire just inspired my early Christmas present to myself, and it is now safely ensconced on my Kindle. Looking forward to reading it! Even if I really find Celene rather charmless. But your descriptions all definitely make me want to read it. I'm excited to meet Felassan too, based on what's been described of him. I'm always a fan of the snarky ones.
You know, a month or so after Inquisition came out, Weekes made some comment on the break-up in Crestwood, about how Solas was ready to just give it up and be with Lavellan, but he pulled back at the last second because he realized he'd be "betraying himself." And even then, I remember getting caught up on the wording. It seemed like such a strange way of phrasing things - no "he'd be stringing Lavellan along" or "he'd be doing something that (From his perspective) is unspeakably selfish," but instead it was somehow a betrayal of himself.
At the time I chalked it up to simple weirdness, but it does make a lot more sense now. He was making the same "mistake" he killed Felassan for, and to let things continue - worse, to let it go and be with Lavellan - would mean he betrayed himself just as surely as Felassan had.
It makes me wonder if some of Solas' stubbornness about the situation is born of the sunken cost fallacy - that he's sacrificed so much, friends, innocents, loved ones - to simply give up would mean their death was for nothing. He just... killed them for nothing. So he keeps going, because if he can't bring them back, at least he can give them meaning.
I think your point of view is really very likely, and that was certainly how I read our final conversation with Solas in "Trespasser," as well. I haven't read "TME" but based on how Felassan is described, there's certainly a terrible irony to Solas's journey in DAI, if we take the person we saw as genuine (I feel he was, aside from the whole "I am a secret god who will at some point rip apart all reality as you know it to save my ancient people" thing).
Ahh... I finally understand why the writer said to romance him if you want to see the utter sadness of Solas.
The funny thing was, my first playthrough (a Bull-mancer), I was so tempted by Solas because (1) his reactions were consistently not what I expected, and that intrigued me, and (2) because he was so palpably lonely that just the way he said "goodbye" each time I spoke to him, my heart broke a little. To then discover that this loneliness was an intrinsic and necessary aspect of his character was amazing as the game ended, and really made me salute the writers. It's only through romancing Solas that I think we get the richest and most complex view of who he is (or might still be).
In fact he's so over the ears in hopelessness and self-loathing and carrying on with his plan, than when he coolly explains to Inquisitor what he'd have done if the orb killed Cory and Inky says that s/he never considered Solas someone who'd be able to do something so horrible, he's stunned and thanks them for it
And of course there's spirit!Cole says the the end of Trespasser - he's going back to the Fade to remind Solas he is. Because he's given up so much that he's about to break his own identity and principles.
When does Cole say he is going back to the Fade for Solas? I missed that. (Note: I chose human-Cole first time, and this latest time on Solasmance, went with Spirit Cole... and kind of hated it. I deeply felt that I made the wrong decision for the entire rest of the game. But I'm still glad I saw it, and Cole's revelations about Solas especially were fascinating. But I was so upset that Cole ends Trespasser by going back into the Fade... sniffle. It just felt like a loss to me.
During the stinger at the end of the game, Solas tells Mythal that it was his mistake and he should pay for it... but the people need him. Given that Mythal doesn't argue, I'm guessing he means that quite literally. That whatever he intends to do, he not only needs power to do it, but it has to be him. Either no one else is capable or some arbitrary magical mumbo jumbo'll stop them but not Solas.
Either way, I don't think simply allying with someone would be an option.
I love the way that scene is acted and presented to us, because there's a palpable love and affection between the two of them. Solas seems so broken and remorseful, and so genuinely willing to accept punishment. Beautiful voice-acting (predictably of course) by both of the actors, as well.
I imagine my Lavellan leaving little notes on Fen'Harel statues all over Thedas, since he's never close enough in her dreams for her to talk to him. Each one will be about a person she met, a sight she saw, or a reflection on life in the current world that shows that it really is a beautiful place. Since I disbanded the Inquisition, the notes will serve another purpose hopefully of keeping Solas' agents off-balance, by laying false trails of where my Inquisitor and her people might be. Of course Solas is smart enough to figure that out, I'm sure, but it might slow him and his agents down for a bit.
This is a gorgeous and really interesting idea. I love that.
My own headcanon is that my Lavellan begins to study the Fade so that she can manipulate realities and intercept him in dreams -- and simply talk to him again. After all, he's almost always there, accessible and watching. She just needs to figure out how to bridge the gap. I've got a fan-fiction all planned out.

IMO the scene with Flemeth is echoed in the Trespasser goodbye with high-approval quizzy. He's saving quizzy, whereas he killed Flemeth, but the mix of emotions is similar, which is both powerful and chilling. He doesn't want things to be this way, but as far as he can see, he has no other path forward.

I want to draw feelsy moments but also the sweet, happy moments. There is enough angst and pain to last a lifetime from DAI-onward, though I'd probably do some feelsy Solavellan too. But I really sometimes just go 'Solas who?' and would like to keep her in happier times with Nehn and draw cuddly girlfriend time and ignore that whole future thing. ![]()
