I think the blight goes further back. Andruil found it in the void, which is the same place the Forgotten Ones call home (the supposedly 'bad' evanuris which Solas was related to). We also have the Dalish myth about Elgar'nan throwing the 'sun' into the void for a while, so who knows what happened when it came back out. I'm quite convinced the sun in myth is symbolic for whatever the 'sun' is in the fade, as it appears on one of Solas' murals and seems to relate to the 7 evanuris:

 

 

 

I'm not sure I'd be so quick to say that Andruil found the Blight in the Void.  It's possible and I know there's the story about her and Mythal but we don't really know where the Blight comes from or how it got started.  We don't know how accurate that story is about Andruil and the Void.  It reads more like a story that's created to explain something like the Dalish stories about the elven gods.  Or it could be a story the Evanuris themselves started telling to explain the Blight to the elven people at the time.  To be honest, I rather hope it wasn't Andruil or the Evanuris.  It would be kind of .. I don't know, boring? .. if everything was the elves fault.

 

Regardless, I really hope it's one of the questions that gets answered before the series ends.

Other things I have been wondering about is whether it's actually the Enavuris that started the Blight, and that is somehow tied in to Mythal's murder and the great betrayal... But that's just a feeling I have; I don't have any lore-based evidence to back it up, other than the similarities between the Evanuris and the Tevinter magisters of Chantry legend.

I don't know what to make of it really, but it seems like Mythal and Fen'Harel, looking at the codices you find in the Deep Roads, coupled with the one in Old Elven Writing about hunting the pillars of the earth...they were doing something. This codex is particularly interesting to me because it seems the most revealing in and of itself. While the entire codex is of note, I do want to point out what the Inquisitor says when s/he reads it: "The runes say the Evanuris fought the Titans. They mined their bodies for lyrium and...something else. It's not clear." It seems like the Evanuris did unleash the Blight (perhaps a defense mechanism issued by the Titans?), perhaps it was even under the leadership of Mythal and Fen'Harel. Perhaps they realized what they had unleashed and sealed the way shut. Maybe Andruil then defied them (putting on the Armor of the Void to hunt the Forbidden Ones, if memory serves) to gain the power of the Blight (or at least regain access to the lyrium they were minding and the "something else"), and when Mythal denied her, the Evanuris plotted against her, and thus, she was slain. 

 

However it came to pass, Mythal definitely has history with the Blight...more than we could possibly imagine, to borrow her words!

I played through the Origin parts for noble and casteless in DAO.  Generally I don't play dwarves though.  I'm short enough IRL, I like to pretend to be tall in games.

Yeah, that mural and the glyph and what the Inquisitor says are part of what gave me the feeling that the elves perhaps are responsible for the Blight. One of Solas' comments in game suggests that he might know more about the Blight than he's letting on, too:

 

Solas: The Grey Wardens allow elves and dwarves into their ranks?

Varric: Qunari too I imagine. They don't care about titles or blood, just stopping the Blight.

Solas: A pity they do it so badly then.

Blackwall: Would you care to repeat that?

Solas: Argue if you like, your fight against the darkspawn is noble, but what progress have you made?

Varric: Give them some credit, it's not like you can study the Blight safely. I may not like everything they've done, but without the wardens, we'd all be blighted by now.

Solas: They've bought us some time, I will grant them that.

 

But, as with much of what he says, his true meaning is pretty ambiguous.

 

I did get those torn notebook pages, as well. Spent 170-ish hours on a single playthrough (with DLC), because I like poking into every little nook and cranny.

I'm, like, 98.99998 % certain that the Sun and all references to it are a wink-wink nudge-nudge way of referring to the Maker. I mean, his symbol's the Chantry's sunflare thing. And his first children were spirits, who seem to have taken form to become elves, so if the Evanuris were the first of the elves, they were the first of the spirits, the first of the Maker's children, then the Maker == The Sun. Makes the most sense to me - doesn't require BioWare to pull any more gods out of their ass, which is great, because the cosmology's already getting a bit crowded.

 

'Course, this also means it'll probably never become important, since BioWare's said they don't want to confirm or deny the Maker's existence. Which I'm also fine with, because BioWare's done a great job of showing that even the supposed gods are just your normal idiots with a bit too much power. so if at any point the literal All-Father reaches down and does... well, anything at all, besides sit in his cloud and be ambiguously existent, I'm going to be a bit peeved. There's just too little foreshadowing that the Maker or The Sun have any interest in the world at all, so to me at least, it'd come off as a quite literal deus ex machina. 

 

...Of course, I might've once said the same thing about dating Fen'Harel, so...

Edited to add: Since Pride demons have been established by DA lore to be one of the most powerful demons, is Solas consciously choosing to become more prideful/less wise for the power, because he needs it in order to accomplish his goals, since he lost his orb? Could that be what the "dinan'shiral" is to an ancient elf - giving in to the darker emotions? (Or is that too Star Wars-y?   )

I found some interesting Solas banter in my screenshots:

 

First is from a banter between Solas and Iron Bull. Solas asked Iron Bull if he had kill many Tal Vashoth. Then Solas says this:

"No man can kill so many people without breaking inside. To survive, those you fight must become Monsters. The mind does marvelous things to protect itself."

 

Maybe when Solas says he does not want Lavellan to see what he will become it is meant in such a way - I mean that he will start to see the people not as people but as monsters. Or he won't and this might break him?

 

Sorry, don't want to sound pessimistic - I am still hopeful that we can save him. Only because he fears what he will become does not mean this will happen. With everything they build up for Solas it would not be fitting to just make him an evil new villain in DA4 that we fight just like every other boss in the previous games. 

 

 

And concerning the grey wardens:
