I find that I kind of have a block on Solavellan stuff, and I'm not sure if it's mostly because I find my characters and the things I want to explore have evolved to be more interesting (which can be the case before we get more canon Solas), but I still enjoy a lot of the discussion and creativity around.

 

For me, the Solas stuff lately has mostly come into my writing in the post-Trespasser timeline. Mainly because we have a lot of heavy stuff to work with and an aftermath to poke around in, in terms of the effect on characters, but especially a Lavellan who loves him.

Don't forget, that Solas said, that his feelings for Lavellan were real and "true". So we not only have a Lavellan who loves but also a Solas.

I think this fact makes it even more complicated to read Solas's char. Would he just be "evil" and kill all beeings without second thought the comming plot would be quite boring (with all his powers he posesses now, who could stop him?). But with the love to Lavellan and his upcoming doubt about the "value" of the momentary living beings his "evilness" becomes very hard to estimate.

 

I think the story-writers did a marvellous job!!!

I admit I chuckle a bit whenever I see Concept!Solas as Solas around the time of the Veil / before he went into uthenera. Did he lost all his hair while he slept? How shocking was that for him when he woke up? No wonder he is so grumpy.  

 

I don't know if they'll offer a reason for Solas being bald outside of what the art department says, but shaving of the head is known as a sign of mourning, so there is that.

I'm having a bit of a block on Solavellan too, but that's IMO because I've pretty much explored that with my canon Lavellan.  Trespasser is done, so at this point we're just waiting for DA4.  There's still plenty for Lavellan to do, just not with Solas.  Dream-stalking only gets you so far

 

 

Don't forget, that Solas said, that his feelings for Lavellan were real and "true". So we not only have a Lavellan who loves but also a Solas.

I think this fact makes it even more complicated to read Solas's char. Would he just be "evil" and kill all beeings without second thought the comming plot would be quite boring (with all his powers he posesses now, who could stop him?). IMO having Solas just be "evil" would not only be boring, but a waste of the character.  It'd be like getting to Harry Potter 7 and having Snape turn out to be evil all along.

I have a Solavellan block as well.

But, I'm happy with my nonsense. I will continue to embrace and over indulge my post Trespasser crazy until the day BioWare breaks my heart. Because they will, I'm sure.

What's really sad is that my Lavellan will be legit alone. Cause even if we do get our Quizzies as a protag in the next game.......I don't think I could ship her with anyone but Zevran now.

Nope, according to murals we see in Trespasser (those are all his and with 95% certainty they all depict him) Solas has been bald for quite some time (his earliest mural in the Deep Roads section has been painted "an aeon"/loooong time before the mine was shut down, and shutting down happened even before his rebellion, according to the rune left on the mural).

And I've basically decided for myself headcanon is what really counts So go ahead and try to break my heart, BioWare, I'll just ignore you, decide what I want to happen instead, and call it an AU while secretly considering it the real version. 

 

I know I truly have mastered living with my head in the clouds when I generate escapism even from fictional universes.

I never wrote any of it, but I did this with ME3 too. I didn't have the issues with the endings that others did, but I still went into a period of extensive headcanon that all stayed in my head, mostly.

Ah, see, I'm a bit of the opposite  I care about the characters, but I kept headcanon deliberately nebulous and fluid for the Warden and Hawke, because I figured I could spare myself some nerdrage that way.  Maybe someday I'll work out what my Warden was up to over those ten years, but as long as BioWare continues to poke at that story (however peripheral it is now), I'm happy to see where they take it.  Same principle applies for the Inquisitor.

 

I'm actually kind of happy that I killed my Hawke.  I can put a bow on that story and retire it.  A bow of angst and sadness

Oh dear, that ... Yes, Fen'harel... I sure hope it is pure imagination and something like that doesn't actually exist, not like it is written because I might just try to find someone like that. Sounds way better than some of the "normal" relationships I had so far.

 

Nope, not pure imagination.  BDSM is a thing IRL, and some relationships are actually structured like Fen'Harel and Mae's.  Although like "vanilla" relationships, there's a lot of variety in how BDSM play out, and each contract is different.

 

I'm just glad to see an actually functional portrayal of it, after all the 50 Shades garbage
