Sorry, but you have to fill the time writing your own fanfic instead....
Oh I will
I don't see the shameless enabling ending any time soon.
But I also want something to discuss to keep the Solas thread together.
Sorry, but you have to fill the time writing your own fanfic instead....
Yep, that's me
They have to give us a book or something.
The only thing going now that we know of is a Magekiller and part 2 will be released mid-January. As for books - I wonder what they could release? It's too early for, say, theoretical "Solas youth and rebellion" book/comic, since they won't be spilling any more secrets about Elvenhan and Evanuris via his past more than tidbits we got in Trespasser so far.
... Something from Tevinter? Maybe something concerning Calpernia or future side characters or Companions?
Well, and then there's of course fanfiction and fanarts - I know many of you folks are brewing your own things (which I may or may not be secretly all having bookmarked xD). I myself kinda wonder when I'd join the club when it comes to fanartsing, if not necessarily fanficking (I have an idea for a side story that is neither really fluff or smut-filled, but even I'll admit that it's relatively dark xD)
I was late to the DA train, so very late....my first post this year was in the DAO Alistair thread, there were still enough people active there at the time....I didn't get into DA2 as much before I was hit with DAI...I should spend more time commenting here than the writers thread, but at least there it's expected that we will go on and on about our fan fics and what we are stumped on. I feel like I would just annoy everyone here if I did that. ![]()

Gaider is working on a novel where Fenris is supposed to make an appearance, but he did say the book wasn't about Fenris so...
I worry what he plans to do to my favorite grumpy elf.
I should buy Magekillers, but the holidays has me strapped for extra spending money.

Something annoying just happened to me:
I'm playing a Dwarf Inquisitor and the one quest my race would change the outcome of I missed out on, 'cause Ritts died. Argh! And I haven't been able to find a video of what would've happened ,_, .. Curses.
In response to myself, I made a male Dwarf and ran straight to this quest. I uploaded what Cadash had to say:

Don't remind me, the thought that something terrible might happen to Fenris makes me feel a bit sick
... but they wouldn't kill of a possible LI off-screen, would they? That would feel very cheap and honestly a bit disrespectful towards the people who really invested themselves in the character. ![]()
I'm going to continue to have faith in the writers even though my nerves are trying to get the better of me! ![]()
I can't sleep so I'm reading these comics and this one just made me snort.
(I'm sure it's been shared before but I wanted to post it anyway.)
Pre-Inquisition release Solas! I love looking back at what people thought of no-context Solas. ![]()

Beautiful sketch of Solas by nipuni. Oooh! ![]()
Modern AU: Lavellan and her companions sometimes play gigs at her bar
and Solas develops a new appreciation music made within the last 20 years.
Sketch of Lavellan sleeping on Solas' lap.
I also found a lore discrepancy:
This is Hyndel's mother, a human:
This is Hyndel, an elf:
Hyndel's father is an Elf. Either she's not his biological mother or they messed up.
I noticed that on my first playthrough as well and it doesn't necessarily have to be a mistake or discrepancy. She could be his stepmother as you pointed out. So at first I was all like, Oh BioWare! But then it was more, eh there's a possible explanation.
Well, we do know for sure that there are no such things as half-elves in Thedas, so it's either not his biological mother (we never know from the game if she is, only that Hyndel considers her family), or they simply missed that detail.
I have to admit, I'm rather more interested with the fact that Wisdom herself uses human model, despite apparently being really old - one of Solas' oldest friends, which means that she rally must be old - and speaking in elvhen, yet she looks decidedly human. They do have elf models using her attire, so.... huh?
Same with ghosts in Brecilian ruins in DAO - they've made the boy and the woman in the tomb human, despite speaking elvhen and being all 'elfy' in any respect other then looks.... Whyyyyyyyyy? What's the secret here? Because it's just too large to be an oversight.
It's not really too large to be an oversight. The female figure rising from the Well of Sorrows is human and the devs admitted that's only because they didn't think we'd be able to see her so clearly.
But it could also be that they were human. If you find the phylactery with the spirit who can teach you the arcane warrior specialisation you can ask it what it remembers. From what I recall it remembers people, both humans and elves, fleeing something but it can't remember what. I'm not sure if it's ever made clear on if humans were encountered before or after the Evanuris disappeared although I've always thought it was before.

They may be setting up a background for the next game and Fenris may appear in it so they may want to get Fenris in a place to make his appearance more reasonable.
Maybe!
Humans appeared in Thedas before the elves felt the quickening (according to World of Thedas 1 Timeline) so that would mean there were humans around during the time of the evanuris. The old Dalish legend about Arlathan says something about how the elves thought of the humans pretty much as humans do alienage elves, in other words second class citizens, and even as simply vermin. So I would think that any humans coming into contact with the elves at that time were simply used as slaves, possibly regarded like domestic animals. However, Solas may have tried to help them and that is why there are examples of elven ruins with elves and humans apparently living alongside one another, although these equally could have belonged to a time later than the evanuris because the elves continued to venerate them even after they disappeared. However, the elves were meant to have withdrawn from human contact because they thought they were to blame for their mortality, so the window for them living together after the Veil was raised would have to have been rather small. I seem to recall the spirit in the phylactery remembered some sort of evil presence attacking, against which they had to defend; was that one of the evanuris, possibly Falon'Din or something else?

I know that the woman rising from the well is human, but in her case nothing about her figure or face was really supposed to be relevant - we only see that she's human if we manage to see anything behind the water distortion and shadow. In case of both Wisdom and Brecillian Ruins ghosts, the fact that they're human is pretty apparent. They're long enough on screen for it to be noticeable.
And yes, we can fins the remains of an Arcane Warrior and it mentions both humans and elves living together (in peace and harmony it seems) there and the Dalish elves even seem to recall that settlements in Brecillian Forest date before the rise of Arlathan - so it's likely that people living together with elves happened long before Tevinter people settled in those ruins. And if I recall correctly, the trapped ghost says that he recalls being attacked by something dark and terrible, though what that is, and when exactly that happened is anyone's guess.
There are also many small clues suggesting that human relations with elves may be more complicated than just "humans arrive on continent and war with elves, eventually enslaving them". We don't really know how long history between them really is, especially seeing that there's a suggestion that someone's making an effort to warp memory and erase history (who's responsible for erasing memories of existence of Titans from Shaperate? Valta thinks it's really suspicious), but we do know that long ago people revered the wolf and thought of it as a protector and companion; apparently in no different way than Emerald Knights did and earlier Mythal appears to have considered Fen'Harel to be. Then there's Fereldan fixation with dogs and wolves, with the Fereldan howling wolf statue bearing certain similarities to elvhen howling wolf statue...
Then there's a little thing mentioned by Solas to elf Inquisitor before finding Skyhold - "the humans have not raised one of our people so high for ages beyond counting"... Ages beyond counting suggest an extremely long time, so it was much earlier before, say, Garahel (who himself might be a famous Warden, but was never as renowned as Inquisitor).
... I mentioned it a long time ago and more than once, but I think it would be interesting if it turned out that a person Solas mentions... was actually Fen'Harel
It would pack even more tragedy and irony into to his autobiography, if it tuned out that he fought either on side of humans, or released their ancestors from presumed elvhen slavery too... only for humans to forget about everything and then turn into oppressors themselves
I mean, seeing how Teivnter itself appears to repeat (in varying degree) almost every mistake Elvenhan has done, it does indeed seems that no matter what happened during the forgotten history, the humans are pretty stubbornly repeating the mistakes of the elves. No wonder Solas is all grumpy and not really a fan of humanity - and if he indeed fought on their side at one point, or tried to help them earlier, I can see why he'd grow resentful about it.
Oh, please give me more Calpernia!
And for creating your own thing:
Do it!
Edit to add: From what I've read on thread posts, I'm actually very curious to read what you in particular would write.
And about it being very dark: *cackles* I think I would somehow be ok with it.
Well, hopefully, eventually, I'd be getting DA out of my system via at least some drawn stuff
When and if it happens is anyone's guess though ;P
I'm just not sure if I'd have enough discipline/patience to go through with it, especially considering my more or less ambitions plans for next year xD
I've also been also considering just turning some of those fic ideas into comic practice... but admittedly it'd take even longer, not only because the story would be more than a few pages long^^; I am notoriously slow with my work, especially if I find the outcome not up to my standards for whatever reason.
As for ideas... surprisingly a lot of them aren't Solavellan-centered, even though it's still there. The tone ranges from just silly, through uplifting to just 'I wonder how far I can push it to the dark side' xD Just some stuff that happens during the course of Inquisition, ranging from my take on the rescuing of Lavellan clan and going as dark as at least a few companions being captured by a particularly nasty group of Venatori - blood magic and nasty interrogation/experiments ensue. Solas may even end up liking tea, because the Venatori are awful hosts and may try and serve him something much worse ;D You hear that Solas? It could always be worse than tea!! It may be coffe!
That's an interesting thought that Solas may be resentful because in the past he helped the humans to freedom before he went into his slumber. When you say about making things better with the Well of Sorrows, he asks what you would do if you woke up one day and things were worse than you remembered them. You reply, dust yourself off and try again and Solas seems thrilled at the response. Of course we know now why. Still I suppose I can see why he feels he doesn't owe the other races anything if he did previously help them. I recall that some of the elves fleeing Tevinter tried hiding with the dwarves and those that sheltered them were attacked and wiped out by the other dwarves who were allies of Tevinter.
My first run through I used a mixture of elf decoration and Ferelden statues, so there were lots of howling wolves around the place. I was really thinking of the Emerald Knights and their companion wolves but looking back on it, I wondered if Solas appreciated what my Lavellan, his love, had done or whether he was worried that she had rumbled him.

I like how you think ![]()
I like all of those, and don't worry about not being Solavellan-centered, more and more of us are giving more attention to other characters in addition to or completely replacing Solavellan.
Venture into the dark side as far as you can - no fear!
Hoping we get to read something from you, even if it's just a tiny drabble.

I'm finding that my Solas/Solavellan stuff has turned to the effects on my Lavellan post-Trespasser. I'm pretty blocked from writing Solavellan fluff or romance angst. But the effects of the truth AND a new responsibility and adjustment with the arm, and associated feelings there, and family and friends and other stuff? That has me interested.
We won't get Solas canon for some time. But exploring the impact of all that still gives me ideas.
Since it's gonna be New Year soon, I made a little something for the occasion:
