Don't worry, AnimeLavellan!  We'll be back to our fuzzy, regularly scheduled programming in no time.  I think everyone's just recuperating/breathing a collective sigh of relief that the onslaught appears to be over.  We really didn't get it that bad, comparatively. And the, er, party seems to have moved into the new romance thread. 

 

 

I'm really buying into the idea that Solas' hetrosexuality is just part of who he is, and the strict elf gating is what's important.  There was a theory a few pages back about it being connected to

The Masked Empire as the Eluvian network can't be walked by non-elves without them becoming ill. There was also loads of foreshadowing in that book for the return of anicent elves who surived thanks to Uthenera (as those who perfected Uthenera could surive wtihout food or water, providing no-one killed their bodies).

That's my favorite theory too!  I still think he's an ancient elf.  So anything from what you said under the spoiler tag there to it simply being that another elf wouldn't threaten his immortality is what I'm looking at as the reason for his race gating. I don't think it's the elf baby thing. I just...don't.

 

I'd love it if he made the first move, but I feel like he might be oblivious unless you initiated.  Like, the badassery reveals itself in his fighting, but he seems like he might be sort of bad at reading social cues ("O hai, giant Avaar dude! Let me offer commentary on your culture as though you aren't standing in front of me and carrying a huge axe!").  Plus, after the whole Anders thing, didn't they say they weren't going to have characters initiate anymore? Once Solas figures out you're interested, though, I hope he gets feisty.  I play strong, independent women, but they do like to be swept off their feet occasionally.

Today is the last day of PAX.  They'll have videos up once it ends.  The soonest would be tomorrow. It could be that it's not from the demo?  But one of the media types said they played a longer demo and ran around different zones, so it probably is somewhere else.

 

Ah, okay, cool. So there's at least hope, then! I will take anything new. November is so0o far away...

 

At least this thread wasn't as bad as a the Cassandra and Sera threads which both got locked and cleaned.

I do think a lot of the negativy came from Solas being gated and straight.

Sometimes I just stop and think like....

 

Remember when everyone thought that Solas was ugly and would never be a romance option because he was bald?

 

Remember when everyone thought he would be boring because his design was so simplistic?

 

Remember when everyone played hot potato with him in the romance thread because nobody wanted him?

 

Remember when Nicolas Cage jokes were so widespread and often mean-spirited that we all wanted to throw poor Nick Cage out a window?

 

Remember when his tumblr tag was immensely tiny and was covered in pictures of feet?

 

Remember when we were all so bummed because Solas was shown at a similar time as Vivienne but we had to wait so long for his reveal?

 

Remember when we had 100 pages of discussion about what scotch bonnet candies could mean because we had literally nothing else to go on?

 

We've come so far, Solas fans. So far.

Hello, been away for a couple of days and missed the big reveal.   I'm really happy because my lovely lady elf mage will have a romance.   The restriction makes me feel it will be really special.   I know it is disappointing for non-elves and male elves but at least if you do play a female elf you know that this romance, like everything else about Solas, will be unique.   That's presumably why they have so many romances this time round, so they can make them individual rather than generic and so you feel they are romancing your character specifically.

 

Incidentally I never thought that just because he was open minded about history or how he relates to other races, meant that he would be open to a romance with anyone.   My characters are usually pretty open minded in their dealings with other races but the elves tend to be only attracted to elves, just as I am.   Even if it is just the fact that he doesn't want the elves to die out seems a valid enough reason to me    Clearly he isn't the sort of person who is into casual flings but is someone who romances for keeps and that has to be a positive thing.  Of course, if it turns out that there is another completely different reason, that's intriguing too and I'm looking forward to playing even more now, so I can find out.

Depending on how much class/race comes into play Mage!Lavellan and Solas might have Rivalmance potential. The Dalish to put it mildly have something of a superiority complex, and Keepers are the living repositories of what lore remains from the days of Arthalan. So if Solas goes ahead and points out an inconsistency, or error based off of his knowledge things could get...interesting.

No, I think Shepard is worse. Then again, I always played a sarcastic Hawke who flirted with everyone so it was in-character. Plus it's not like she knew about that, considering they don't deign to tell female PCs... 

 

Ugh, Jane sometimes just makes me cringe, though. Thankfully it's more subtle with Kaidan in ME1 and I usually romance him through all the games, so I'm spared a lot of indignity... Gotta deal with the "Wanna bang? /romance initiated" if I want to go for Garrus, though... and that makes me DIE INSIDE. [literally covered her ears and yelled "LA LA LA LA LA" so she wouldn't have to hear it last time]

I have no idea which of the many embrassing Shepard flirting scenes the others were talking about the two that stick out in my mind are Thane and Jacob.  I'll repeat what I said about Thane's a few pages back:

Shepard: We'll bang, okay?

 

And Jacob's is just... well you don't even need to pick the flirty lines before Shepard starts saying everything like she wants to take him then and there.  Which got a bit jarring when my Shepard was still in a committed relationship with her ME1 LI, Liara.

Not necessarily. Merrill is pretty diplomatic when Anders continually tells her that her Dalish beliefs are wrong, she befriends people in the Alienage who have radically different views than her, and she doesn't hold it against Sebastian when he talks about his Andrastian faith or comments on hers - I'm pretty sure the elven Inquisitor could accept Solas having his own beliefs, or holding different opinions on history. It's very likely Solas' views on spirits and the Beyond will run in contrast to how the Dalish view it, but I imagine it'll depend on the player how to address it.

Also... I'm totally over here running with the idea, hah. Not getting attached, so no harm if proved false... but the dream bit is too cute. Cheesy. But cute.

 

I personally like to imagine that her clan came upon some ruins, and being First, she was sent in as part of the group that was to see if anything could be recovered... Some time later, Solas finds them, naps, sees her in the memories... BOOM. LIGHTNING. Waifu. 

 

i'm such a sucker for fluff oh gosh.

Shepard saunters into the room where Jacob is and sounds like a cat in heat the moment she opens her mouth. It is horrifying. Where did my badass space soldier go? What did they do to my pining-for-her-lover-Kaidan Shepard when they patched her back up? When did the cool, calm, in-control commander turn into fodder for a Fornax magazine?

 

It would be a bit over the top to claim I am traumatized to this day because of that, but seriously. Just... seriously.

 

I still love Mass Effect though. Questionable ending aside, it's very much worth playing through because it is a great set of games.

Shepard is much worse, in my opinion (it's painful). But like manabloom, I played a sarcastic Hawke, so it felt in character.

 

I want to add that playing Mass Effect is worth it, despite the ending. You should give it a try. Yes, the ending is frustrating, but that's because the rest of it is mostly fantastic.
