I know this question is not too important but I think that having all of your input will help me.
When Solas leaves for good (whether it's after DLC and endgame or just endgame), how do you decide who to replace him with? Does it bother you?
When I did the Solas romance last year, I didn't care who was in the party as much and replaced him with Dorian since he shared my views.
Now that I am doing a male elf, I don't have the need for Solas but I want him in the party but the problem is that I could go for another companion who will stick with me to the end rather than doing a 2nd draft pick with 3/4th of the game finished.
In the Solas romance playthrough, my goal was just to experience it so everything else was just lighthearted decisions. Now, it's rough because I am already having trouble finding a romance for my male elf. A party configuration that shares my character's belief or at least agrees with my important decisions to feel like a cohesive unit.
Solas..you were my perfect elf mage comrade. Now, to figure out whether to invest that time or with someone else to the end.
All opinions welcome.. please help!
What Sable said, since all the characters level up even if you don't take them out you shouldn't worry about it too much. The only thing is they won't get their specialization tree till you take them somewhere but you can just go out with them once and they will have it when you return to Skyhold.
For my last play through I was very careful about the allocation of points for Solas and Dorian, I don't like Vivienne so just hit auto-fill for her. Since I knew I'd be taking Solas out for the majority of the game I focused mainly on ice and rift magic. Most of the dragons are vulnerable to ice and very few are vulnerable to fire. Fire is, however, a very powerful skill so for Dorian I focused on the fire tree and his necromancer skills.
As far as armor I didn't switch them out since I wanted Solas well protected for the final battle but I did try and plan ahead and crafted similarly powerful armor/weapons for Dorian so that he would be good to go for the DLC after Solas was gone.
Also I played a double blade rogue so sometimes I would take Dorian and Solas plus a "tank" usually meaning Iron Bull because I adore the big lug. In my experience the most important party member to have is at least one tank otherwise you can play around with the party pretty easily so if you play a warrior yourself that really allows for flexibility for your party members.
