Always happy to spread the turian love I'm glad he's helped you out of the hellspiral. Who needs lips when you have a dude with a carapace, wicked scars, and teeth like a steak knife?

Okay, I kind of giggled at that part. xD
But yeah, like Cee, I do love Garrus but he's definitely my Shepard's BFF.
Sorry for the odd question. Why is this thread subtitled "The Blanketfort"?
I'm rather assuming that it has something to do with the emotional reaction to various things regarding Solas, but it could be a reference to something I'm clueless about.
You assume correctly. Comfortable place to take shelter from the Solas feels storm.
Interesting thoughts. It would make sense if Mythal was the reason Solas was still going through with his plans, if she still had some form of control over him. To me it doesn't really make much sense otherwise. The only other reason I could think that Solas wouldn't say, "Yup sorry it was a bad idea, my bad. I'll stop now." is because his name means Pride and he is too full of that to allow himself to admit he has been going down the wrong path and that everything with the Foci and her getting the mark was for nothing. Especially if he really did start as a Pride Spirit of some kind.
Also as far as him begging the Inquisitor Weeke's has admitted that was a mess up on their part. Solas was supposed to beg the Inquisitor not to drink but it accidentally got skipped over. It is a real shame because Solas begging would have added extra oomph to their love and better shown how he cares for her and worries what will happen if she drinks. In my mind I can't help but think he must also be worried that drinking from the well might give her the truth about him.
The scene in the rotunda post Temple of Mythal is really awkward if you didn't have your Inquisitor drink. "What will you do with the power of The Well?" Huh??? Solas, you make no sense. Why would my Inquisitor have any say in what will come of the power of The Well if Morrigan is the one who drank? In the epilogue cards Morrigan just leaves and takes the creepy voices in her head with her. The writing was messed up a bit there even beyond the begging thing. Maybe initially there wasn't going to be a choice and all player characters were going to drink from The Well.
I agree including Solas literally begging the Inquisitor not to drink would have added a lot to that scene. Fewer people probably would have chosen to partake if that had been included. I wonder why they don't bother to fix that sort of thing (the fragment of Mythal in The Well having human ears instead of elf ears is another example) in patches.
Personally, I didn't have my first Inquisitor drink specifically because Solas said that he would not drink. His unwillingness to drink seemed really out of character considering all the knowledge one might gain, so I decided drinking was likely a REALLY bad choice. The begging would have left no doubt that drinking was a bad choice. Thus far not drinking has had mostly downsides (no On Burning Wings achievement, untranslated codex entries, fighting extra spirits in Trespasser), but I hope there are more ramifications to that choice later on. There has to be some downside to drinking other than that one moment with Flemeth in the Fade.
I know there are people on this thread who dislike the idea of Solas being under some compulsion to Mythal. Initially I thought it was unlikely, but the more I think about it the more I wonder if they might take things in that direction. Perhaps an Inquisitor who drank from The Well will not be able to stop Solas (if he is under a geas and removing the veil is part of Mythal's plan) or to break Mythal's spell over him without someone else, whose mind is entirely their own, intervening. A new PC maybe?
Oghren should have been there to chug that ancient Elvhen pond swill.

I honestly think the idea of a Tevinter Magister as the new PC sounds glorious, with Inquisitor as a companion :3
I also felt awkward when my Inquisitor didn't drink, but Solas asks what you will do with the well's power anyways. I thought...uh, maybe he means VIA Morrigan, in a Quizzy-is-so-worshipped-that-all-companions-are-extensions-of-her-will kind of way.

I suppose we are forced to assume that is what Solas meant, but it just doesn't make sense to me. Of all the companions and advisers Morrigan is the one who seems to respect the Inquisitor the least. She goes off after The Well even if you choose to ally with the sentinels. She challenges the Inquisitor's wish to be the one who drinks. Morrigan doesn't really follow orders...well, except for her mother's if she drank from The Well. I just think most of that conversation with Solas was a BioWare boo boo.
Garrus is the best romance but I have equal amounts of playthroughs for Thane Krios because Thane is sssoooo sexy ;___;
Agreed! I always had trouble choosing between those two. Both are excellent choices.
Okay, Solas Cumberbatch is not right, although the last picture was at least a better PS work than the other two. This intrigued me so I ran Solas pics through a few random celebrity look-alike generators I found in google but i got no definitive answer, not to mention nobody really resembled him, so he is still a unique snowflake. We can all rest assured.
I'm going to play the Dragon Age tabletop RPG with a group of friends in a few weeks, and I'm so excited! But now I've been ordered to create my character in advance, and there is so much to choose from! I'm probably going to be an elf, and since we already have many warriors in the party I'm going to have to be a mage or a rogue, but other than that I have no idea. I want to use the opportunity to try a background we haven't been able to explore in-game, but at the same time I like knowing the lore so I can role-play better. What do you guys think?

In RPGs I like to have some extra secret that is not apparent on a first look, like in Vampire I preferred True Brujah. So, is it possible to be an actual ancient elf? You could have Solaslike double meaning statements and all that.

Hmmm, I have only cast a cursory glance at the rulebook, but I got the impression that would not be possible. Then again, as fun as it would be, I would most likely feel very much like a fish out of water with the lore. *Sigh* There is soooo much I would like to know about the Elven Empire, damn you Solas for being so tight-lipped.
Edit* These are all the possible backgrounds (spoilered for lenght):
That banter were Sera asked if he ever pissed magic and he actually has to think about it is seriously one of my favorite banters in game. Getting him and Sera together in a group cracks me up with their back and forth.

Well since we know that there were (cut, omitted?) lines during the actual choice scene, I think that the "Bioware boo boo" is probably the correct line of thought here.

I don't have an answer, since I don't know the rules, but I'm jealous! I wanted to play that game since I saw the episode about it on TableTop!

I saw art recently inspired by the 'lizards in the bedroll' banter. So funny.
I think you should be a pirate elf. Because pirates
I'm tempted, but at the moment I'm leaning more towards being a mage. If I could have been a mage and a pirate it would have been a done deal! The bad thing about creating a mage is that my options are limited to:
Apostate - I feel like I already did this with my mage Hawke
Circle Mage - My Warden was a circle mage, so been there done that...
Dalish Elf - I haven't created a Dalish mage, but my Inky was Dalish so it still feels a bit like I've already done this
Escaped Elven Slave - This is new and interesting, but the stats are not very good for a mage
Tevinter Altus - Technically it doesn't say that you can't role-play this as an elf, but it just feels a bit... unbelievable
Tevinter Laetan - Like the Altus, but a slightly more believable
I think I also want my character to later have the Shapeshifter specialization, so I want to make my background to fit nicely with that. This is so hard, the others in my group seem more or less done with theirs and I'm still waffling back and forth.
Just uploaded Chapter 23 Denerim Palace chapter where Cara and Zev play a game of cat and mouse with the Venatori. Alistair has a role in it of course. It was a lot of fun to write this one.
Hmm typical Dragon Age stuff, some language, drinking and death as well as flirting, mostly SFW

I think he may mean what they'd do with the PHYSICAL Well (or what's left of it) as well as Temple of Mythal overall. We do have mentions, via war table missions especially, that there are people and scholars in ToM and the secrets of the temple are being researched, at least not long after Inky was there. Even if Vir Abelasan is gone, apparently there's still enough information, treasures and power left over for Solas and Vivienne to have this final banter:
Vivienne: "I confess Solas, I expected you to be back at the Temple Of Mythal. Some powerful magic yet remains there, if it can be trusted."
Solas: "For once we agree: many relics were lost for good reason."
Vivienne: "You explore the Fade to ferret out such secrets, do you not?"
Solas: "When I awaken each morning all I have with me are those secrets - the power of the Temple Of Mythal is tangible, potent and far to easy to misuse."
Vivienne: "We are not so different after all, my dear apostate. We both believe magic must be limited safely."
Solas: "Only a fool would ignore such stark reminder of the destruction of an empire. We may disagree on many things Enchanter, but neither of us is a fool."
Vivienne: "You are too kind."

What if you could choose? I would proabably play both kind but first I would choose my Lavellan though...
ROGUEBAIT! *hugs* I can't believe you've finally gotten out of Solavellan hell. xD And yes, I sort of started writing again with lots of help and advice from the lovely people over at the smut thread. Er, yes I'm writing smut about my Lavellan but surprisingly, not with Solas. It's set a few years before Inquisition and it's with a guy from her clan during one of her shenanigans.
I'm a bit stumped trying to write the smut part but I'm making progress. ^__^
I also can't believe it. It was consuming. And then, Shakarian. Honest, steadfast, adorkable Shakarian. _
Your fic sounds compelling! Along somewhat similar lines, I've got this whole headcanon of a dude (my) Tala meets post endgame, pre-Trespasser which I've been debating trying to write out. It makes the whole romantic element of Solas and Tala's Trespasser reunion more conflicted and dramatic in my mind. She's torn between a lover she'd thought lost and this hopeful new hot piece of--WAIT, what!? There is a smut thread? We needs it.We wants it.

Congratulations!
You're very lucky. I've tried to get into Mass Effect several times, but it never stuck.
What's odd, though, is that I love the Mass Effect companions and I'm interested in several romances, but I don't like playing the game itself enough times to endure them all. (Sorry, I'm just not a sci fi person.) Mass Effect is the game I only want to play once, but I want to romance several characters. (Kaidan, Liara, Garrus, Thane, Jack...)
By contrast, Dragon Age is the game I want to play several times, but at the end of the game I just want to romance one companion: Alistair in DAO and Solas in DAI, with occasional veers into Zevran and Cullen territory. (And this game Solas and Cullen are both only interested in elves, meaning I keep playing elves over and over, and have no one I really want for my dwarf and Qunari... Thank God for the "lift the racegate from Cullen's romance" mod.)

Haha, thanks! It's actually my second time trying to get into the series, but this time I started with ME2 rather than ME3, which makes more sense. Less sense than starting with ME1 would have, but here we are. I like scifi, but I'm less into shooters, so the gameplay mechanics came with a learning curve. Red Dead Redemption was previously the only game I actually enjoyed shooter-style combat in, but I'm pretty into all aspects of ME now. I can play on normal and not die! Progress. \o/
I also can't bring myself to romance anyone but Alistair in DA:O, though I don't have a great interest in romancing any of the others, to be honest. Well, besides Morrigan, but I can never seem to actually stick with a male OC playthrough. Inquisition is the first Bioware game where I've really wanted to romance basically all of the companions. As a result I have an ass-tonne of characters, each designated for one romance, stagnating at various points of completion. Ha.
Cullen is also available to human females rather than just female elves. My female human mage, Edolie, has recently smooched the hell out of him on the ramparts. It's been pretty adorable, but so far none of the other Inquisition romances hold a candle to the Solasmance for me. We'll see, though.

More seriously, I just appreciate how dependable and loyal Garrus is. He benefits from a three-game saga, but anyone who faces galactic apocalypse with you--three times over--is definitely Best Husbando

Hahah! Absolutely.
It's the whole always there for each other, never-let-you-down thing that clinched it for me, like you say. My man is legitimately concerned though, and has been all "But you don't find him attractive, right?" Haha, YEAH TOTALLY--notinherently--NO HES BASICALLY A MONSTERrrrrbuuuuut*tries to explain in vague terms how emotional attachment and affection can project onto an individual's physical being and then hangs head in confused, mortal shame for the rest of her life, thank you devs, what the **** have you done, opened pandora's box, who am I even*

I'd kind of like to romance Thane, but the flirt option/timing with the dead wife thing threw me right off.
Thane: And that's how my wife died.
Shepard: **** me.
Cool it, Shep.
