I was reading a part of the DA-RPG guidebook when I saw and was reminded of this passage:

I just realized that this part of the lore is either completely fabricated or has changed a lot, because as we all know now the Evanuris was locked away at the same time the Veil came up (or that is at least my interpretation). So if this story is new, was he still known as a god of death during his lifetime? Was he given that title because of his wars rather than compassion? Interesting either way.  :)

A lot of the Dalish stories are pieced together from what few fragments of their culture they were able to retain.  Obviously the Dalish got a lot of things wrong but it's really not their fault.  I would honestly take most of the Dalish stories of the gods with a few large grains of salt.  Solas is obviously biased against the Evanuris but I'd take his information about them over what the Dalish say.  Again, it's not their fault as the ancient elven culture was shattered basically three times .. once when the Veil went up, again when the Tevinter Imperium enslaved them and yet again with the Exalted March on the Dales.

Many details have probably changes, because - as Elessara pointed out - the Dalish only have fragments of fragments, however Id o think  that Falon'Din was indeed likely a god of of death.

However death looked like in times off Evanuris and pre-Veil, we do know that it still existed and that even 'the first of the People' can be killed, even if not very easily or entirely.

Ooh, I love OC backstories. :3 It sounds fun and super adorable (even the sexy elements, if that's possible. Wait, yes it is posible; Deedeelovescake proved the existence of adorabpornz). Indulge away!

Cee. Psst, hey Cee. May I please be approved to join the group?  :kissing:

I'm glad I dropped in again because usually people join first and then I'd approve the request.

But I was able to invite you.

I finished the Merrill tarot! I went with Seven of Pentacles (there's mirror-blood so please let me know if I need to spoiler it):

The mirror on it's own, I liked the nice spikey part Merrill blocked:

Spoiler

Here's what I wrote about it on the Deviant Art Post:

"Even our gods are gone! It’s a sacrifice, but if the mirror restores even one fragment of the past, it’s worth it".

-The seven orbs behind the barrier represent the seven trapped Elven Gods, who Merrill doesn't know were malevolent.
-Her determination to restore the eluvian leads her to blood magic, and the death of her Keeper.
-The embrium represents the Evanuris' connection with the modern Elves (I have a theory the Elves were spirits given form from plants www.reddit.com/r/ThedasLore/co…).

-The dark irony that the creators would likely approve of Merrill's task (especially Falon'din: 'The blood of those who wouldn't bow low filled lakes as wide as oceans').

That's a good idea, I will definitely consider that! I haven't got that much of a grasp on her personality yet, only that she is ambitious and often rather selfish (not the kind that will stab her friends in the back for her own gain, but she is certainly always looking out for her own interests). Hmm, being from Tevinter I think she is quite cunning, so I think she will be the kind to analyze the field of battle before doing anything hasty. She is going to be swearing a lot (thank you Fenris for teaching me Tevene swearwords!). I think she will also be condescending towards non-mages, so that will be everyone else in my party. Everyone is going to hate her! :P I need to name her, but can't decide if she should have an Elven name or a Tevene name. And what would her last name be, do freed slaves pick them themselves?

I'd say Tevene if you want to emphasize her geographical origin, elven if you want to emphasize her race.  Which is more important for RPing the character?  Don't know about last name; if you don't need one, maybe you can get away without.  Not every DA character has a surname.

The reason for my curiosity about these stories is that although most of them are obviously wrong, many of them seem to have a grain of truth. The story of Fen'Harel got surprisingly many things right (the gods being locked away, Fen'Harel being responsible, and him later wandering the Fade) so I'm guessing that if we study these stories we may find clues about the Evanuris and their origin.  :)

A Tevene name it is then (from what I can tell they are often equivalent to old Roman names)! But I do think she would want a surname, not having one is something she would probably consider a connection to her time as a slave (and since she's aiming to become a magister...). Perhaps she just took a name for herself once she was freed, in honor of the magister who freed her?

...I just got to pondering what it'd be like if Dragon Age was ever made compatible with oculus rift. I tell you what, if they released a special OR edition DA;I, I'd totally buy it all over again.

Same here. Imagine the Fade kiss in Oculus Rift? Or the balcony kiss? Or the breakup scene? Or damn, even the Trespasser finale? I'd probably never want to leave my Oculus Rift ever (remember, I'm a sadist and I enjoy having my heart broken by Solas xD) and my family would probably go bonkers trying to tear me away from it.

I also wonder how the elves who were trapped in the Vir Dirthara knew it was Fen'Harel who put the Veil up when they didn't seem to know that he had also trapped the Evanuris.  But then, Solas himself may have tried to explain what had happened to elves he found in the Fade.  The Dalish do have stories of Fen'Harel approaching elves in their dreams.

Bahaha. Like you're own personal uthenara!! Don't worry I'd totally do it, too. I'm actually kind of curious about the Oculus Rift, though. Preorders opened up a couple days ago and I'm wondering if some friends and I should pool together for it. But then again if we wait for the second version to come out maybe the resolution will be higher... and by then, maybe some Bioware games will work with it? Heeheehee xD

Can you imagine watching the dragon/giant fight and stuff like that through the Rift? Woooooooooooow

On a separate note! Completely OT and personal but felt like venting and UGH ijustgetsostressed:

Oh me and you both. I imagine having Mythal as a MIL would be intimidating yet awesome all at the same time ;)

She's not here too often, only a couple weeks at a time... which makes it a bit more bearable. But sometimes I wonder if this anxiety and stress is harmful, heh. You guys are smart cookies for moving 2000 miles away! I've been trying to convince my partner to do the same... but he has his comfort zone here.   :(

Right?! If they are hand washed first... the only valid use of a dishwasher afterwards is as a drying rack, haha. xD

Thank you guys for tolerating my venting <3

Mythal could be a pretty awful MIL for my Inquisitor.

Mythal: Rinse the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher.

Lavellan: Why? The dishwasher cleans them perfectly well.

Mythal: *Geas*

Lavellan rinses everything and fumes.

Mythal: You are a terrible housekeeper! Look at all this laundry everywhere!

Lavellan: Solas can damn well put his own socks in the hamper. And what are you doing in our room, anyway?

Mythal: *Geas*

Lavellan tidies up after Solas and fumes.

Mythal: Elgar'nan would like to go on a camping trip with Solas. You'll set that up and make sure it happens, right?

Lavellan: If Elgar'nan wants to invite Solas on a camping trip, why doesn't he call Solas and make the arrangements himself?

Mythal: *Geas*

Lavellan sorts out the camping trip for Solas and Elgar'nan, including packing all their clothes, tents, bedrolls (no lizards), cooking gear and foods and loading them all on the harts, fuming all the while.

I'd really hate to think that Mythal would treat Solas like a manbaby. Yikes. Far more like she'd tell him to have some dignity and not expect to be treated like a helpless infant. Revolutions aren't started by little boys. :P

Oh, I agree. I have been re-reading this lately, though, so it and the talk of MILs and, specifically, Mythal as a MIL in this thread sort of meshed with my love of DAI.

And... top of the page. What to post. Eh...

Edit: Here. Sad Solas.

I'd rather think she'd make Solas take care of daily stuff for her, just like Flemeth did with Morrigan.

... Honestly, I laughed so hard when Morigan revealed that one of the most terrifying things in existence is Flemeth's cooking  Aeons of ruling and centuries of hiding in the swamp, and the woman never learned how to cook!

Speaking of Flemeth, Morrigan and Solas... can you imagine a situation where Flemythal raises both Morrigan and Solas together? I imagine the Blight would never be a problem, since Korcari Wilds would go out in flames altogether from the sheer power of accumulated snark :D It would be a thing of beauty (you gotta admit there's something of a sibling rivalry vibe going between them both in ToM, lol).
