Seriously one of his better moments. Suave ancient elf with the powers of a god who invoked a rebellion and sealed away mage-kings gets flustered and comes up with a half-***** excuse about your face. I love it.

It's the little things like that which show him to be more than "elf god bent on destroying the world." And not even for the romance aspect. Just that hey, we've all been there. Power and plans aside, he's same as everyone else in the end.

Tbh, I just stalk the Solas or Solavellan tags on tumblr. Which sometimes can be quite frustrating since this means I also get to see some of the hate and drama that goes on in the tag. This has somewhat quieted down a bit but they do occasionally pop up.

Redeemer here. She actually was a diplomatic Inquisitor, always trying to find the most peaceful resolutions and compromises. Josie and Leliana got the most war table operations from her. The Keep recorded her as having not often deployed the Inquisition forces, and being a merciful judge. So... attempting to redeem Solas is totally within character for her.

 

Coincidentally, the vallaslin I picked (purely for aesthetic reasons  ) were Sylaise's. But that also sort of ended up fitting, since the Vir Atish'an is about healing and mending (relationships between people, in this case).

Befriending Sera is fun, but it should come with some kind of warning label.

 

"Warning: Too much exposure to Sera can lead to prank wars, flame wars and the occasional food fight".

 

This is the general basis of the arc my Trevelyan mage will be going through, except she's going to fall for and marry Sera. Kinda buttoned-up at the start, somewhat sheltered, and then....over time, exposure to Sera starts affecting her in more ways than one.

 

I would have already made Claire, but I'm at max saves (again) and have to sort that out before I can make more characters, so I just haven't bothered yet. I made my mLavellan mage first.

Redeem. I can always switch my mind if I find out that things go in a completely wrong direction, but so far:

A.) more thoughtful solution FTW

B.) with all the ancient threats looming on the horizon, whether we hate or love him, we may need him, his knowledge and power to fight it (or, alternatively, restore whatever we can from the past),

C.) Solas himself needs not to shut himself down for the world if there's any shred of other solution out there.

 

He wants to retain some hope, we can see that, but if Inquisitor doesn't offer it to him - be it as a friend or lover - then it appears that he hardens his heart for what has to come.

Nirwen had all of that too. Well, her vallaslin was Mythal's.But Nirwen was about minimizing harm, getting the job done, attempting to be diplomatic first, sometimes strategic, not often sending in the blunt force, imprisoned just the box, recruited most of the prisoners, executed just one (Erimond). So she was noted as diplomatic and merciful as well. And she knows there's deep caring and can even see the pain on Solas' face, I'd say.

 

I was off and on crying through that end of Trespasser the first time, and when the option came up to redeem or stop, I remember kind of gasping and OF COURSE redeem.

 

I am an emotional sort, so I was on and off crying through various parts of Trespasser. The first thing that made me burst into tears was Cole (Spirit choice) saying how happy he is and fits in and isnt a thing.

My second Lavellan - Rhiannon might do that. She's hot-headed and often reacts violently. At that point, she'll be very angry at Solas for all his lies and the things he says. I mean, try to choose every 'angry' response to Solas. He's quite irritating and cold-hearted at some point.

So that's her angry reaction, even if she might regret that once she gets to think about all of this.

I'm not 100% sure this is going to end like this. I have my canon Solas mancer who had her vallaslin removed, didn't drink from the well and swore to redeem Solas, and the second that kept her vallaslin, drank from the Well and might still want to redeem him (I wonder how different will these two scenarios be). But turning into his enemy also sounds interesting and that's why I didn't complete that playthrough yet.

It might be a little easier now that you've been somewhat spoiled. Going in fresh with so much need to know and avoid being spoiled, along with everyone else playing at the same time....going in was really heightened.

It seems like the entire fate of the world hinges on whether or not your Inquistor can inspire the failboat that is Fen'Harel to find a better way, so yeah I want to see what happens on that path first. I chose redeem for my canon playthrough because, I guess for my Lavellan, hope dies last, power of friendship, love wins, all those pithy cliches.

 

I will probably watch a Let's Play of the antagonistic options, if I can't manage to get my angry male Lavellan playthrough done, because I'm sure it will be fun and fascinating either way. I mean, it looks like the kill option is going to be the default setting for DA 4, if you go by the default Trev's choices on the Keep - it just isn't my first choice.

I've actually been blocking people from the Solas tag too. (The ones who spout negativity anyway.) The ones who discuss certain topics or headcanons that are just 'ehhh' to me I blacklist using tumblr savior.  

 

But yeah, nothing personal. It gets stressful (for me at least) and tiring having to see so much negativity on a character you like.

What is "playing god" though? IMO it's kind of a redundant accusation. I've heard it leveled at various people and professions, from doctors (for interfering in nature's plan and saving people) to those who either make or have to make decisions with far-reaching consequences.

 

And in that regard we can easily accuse Inquisitor or Hero Of Ferelden for "playing god" - either for making important decisions, and going as far as deciding the fate of world or nations, or going against what many have deemed "god's plan".
