are you sure there isn't a man in actual reality that looks like Solas??
How can I have such intense feels toward such an attractive, realistic face... but that face is not real? It strikes me as opposed to nature itself that I should be biologically programmed to accept this face with all the verisimilitude of looking at a real person. It is indeed a modern philosophical question!
***if I saw a man post this comment on a photo of Ciri I'd think he was a creepy weirdo, a 50-yr-old weirdo obsessed with anime girls or some such. No! I'm not like that I swear.

Considering that many of Solas' features are pretty elfy and quite distant from average human? No. Peculiar eyes, irises far bigger than regular human irises, peculiar nose and facial shape. We can find people who are vaguely similar, but that's probably so far as similarities will go. I heard however that there were quite a few design changes to make Soals look a bit more similar to his voice actor.
Oh, I hadn't had enough feels for the day.

Into the Fade. (Solavellan)
Solas doodle.
Solas.
Magic Nerds.
So I finally decided to climb up on that superhero bandwagon and started watching Daredevil on Netflix (Just in time for season two, at that.) And if you're at all familiar with Daredevil you can probably see my predicament - it's evil mastermind antagonist. It's bald evil mastermind antagonist, acting in the interest of bettering the world, written in an extremely, beautifully humanizing way.
...Granted, Fisk is decidedly more evil than Solas (Or, well, I guess that's a matter of debate. Fisk is a lot more selfish and temperamental, but he's also only effecting one city. Solas is calmer and more genuinely altruistic... but he also intends to destroy the world as we know it. Hmm. I guess that's a question of whether it's the motive or the method that makes a villain.) Still. Me and my gosh darn villain soft-spot.
...
But seriously guys, check out Daredevil. S'pretty neat, in more respects than it's main antagonist. Expect some light gore, though.
I'm up to episode 5 of Daredevil. The end to episode 4.... ![]()

I saw the last few episodes of the season before I saw anything else of the show, so I already knew Fisk had... anger management issues, let's say, and it didn't come as quite a shock to me. But yeah, it was still... rather, uh... yeah.
Yes!!!!! Daredevil has the greatest TV superhero villain I've ever seen!!! Definitely the most mature, well-directed and well-acted series now.
Spoilers for the whole show.

Solas look a lot like Lex Luthor, except that he is an Elf. If you look at Jesse Einsenbergs' bald photos for Batman V Superman, you will realize that he looks a lot like Solas.

Is it just me or does Solas' magic appear to be from within, as opposed to external ? What I mean is that conventionally, mages have to use external hand movements to warp the Veil to cast a spell. However, Solas in Trepasser does it within himself, its like the Fade is within him somehow and he is using it to cast spells instead of using hand movements.

It could have something to do with him being a Dreamer and still having such a strong connection to the Fade. Since we've never had another Dreamer in the games this could be a common thing with them. It would make sense.
On a side note: dropping in chapter 5 of Once Upon A Dream http://archiveofouro...apters/13903279

Hmm. Maybe it's just me, but I'm having trouble seeing it. They're similar in that they're both bald white guys with blue eyes and a straight nose. But Solas' jaws is sharper and more defined. His nose is a little thinner and his lips are a little thicker. His brow isn't as heavy, and his eyes are sleepier (Though this is less true in Trespasser.)
Maybe it's just that image, which seems to be trying to evoke hostility and... well, it looks a bit like it's mimicking a prison mugshot. All of which makes sense, I mean, it's Lex Luthor. But... hmph. I dunno.
And as for Solas' magic, it's possible that that "gesturing" people do is entirely unnecessary. Bull says that most mages are flashy, even Vivienne has some showmanship in her style, but Solas has none of that. His style hasn't got any "frills," and most of their enemies don't even realize he's a mage until his staff's out and half the battlefield's on fire.
Now, whether that's because of his previous power, or a product of having learned magic in a completely different time with a completely different mindset, or simply Solas' own personal approach to magic, that I can't say. As far as Trespasser goes, i think it was just for pure intimidation factor, though. Solas' display might've been a bit less impressive if he, I dunno, pirouetted and triple back-flipped as he turned the Viddisala to stone.

There will never be a time when I play that scene and do not picture this now.
Does anyone have that photoshop of James McAvoy as Solas? That's my fave.

A genuine bald McAvoy appears...

Though to be fair, Solas' attitude remind me of Apocalypse for than Xavier.
Solas' DA4 intro - "I have been called many things over many lifetimes...Solas, Fen'Harel, Apostate Hobo..."
Solas to Dalish Elves - "You are all my children...and you are lost..because you follow blind leaders.."
Morrigan on Solas - "More like the Chant of Light got it from him..."
Solas on tearing down Tevinter - "Everything they have built...will fall ! And from the ashes of their world...We'll build a better one !"
Protagonist encountering Solas - "I have never felt power like this before..." and then they become bald as a result.
Dragon Age IV: Apocalypse.
hehehe...that is perfect!!

Yeah, watching the scene with Fisk and Russian!Fenris gave me some serious Mountain vs Viper flashbacks...
Can't lie, McAvoy would probably be my top pick to play Solas in a movie adaptation of Inquisition.
That scene just went on forever.
It is so funny - I thougt this morning about James McAvoy as Solas 'cause he has got these countenance which I think is more important than exact face structure ![]()

I suspect he might have pirouetted and triple-backflipped mentally ![]()
Anyway, I remember Mary Kirby at one time saying (to a person who asked if gestures are needed to cast magic) on her Twitter that magic can be even cast while sleeping - so without any 'assistance' body can provide, though she says that complicated spells may need that. I assume this means that people who can sort of decouple their mind from their body may not need any gestures or spoken incantations or whatever, simply because their body is enough to shape the magic however they want.
... Though it might just be the type of magic. None of the mages eyes flash blue when they cast spells, except for those using 'blue' magic.
RP question time.
So how does one roleplay a mage Lavellan Inquisitor ? I mean the game makes it clear that mage Lavellan is the First of Clan Lavellan, which means they are quite important and valuable. So why would the Keeper send off her potential successor who is a mage, to spy on a gathering of mages and Templars ? Mages are not known for being spies. Furthermore, Dalish are not exactly welcome in human lands. So how do you folks justify this ?
