Art break. :wizard:

"A reminder" by nipuni. Also, nipuni tries out flat colors on her sketches. (At it looks pretty!)

Adorable artwork of Solas and Iron Bull playing chess with Bull carrying Solas' baby girl in his arms by nipuni. <3

Cute animation of modern AU Solas and Lavellan baking together.

"Daaaaaaad. You're embarassing me!" Solas and his son. :P

Hello darkness my old friend. (Solas)

Videogame Boyfriends. Sketches of Keaton and Main Character from Fire Emblem Fates with Solas and Lavellan.

I don't really want to get into another argument to clutter up the thread, so I'm trying to keep from replying to everything, but I'd like to say this - "Help stop the end of the world," while a perfectly logical motivation, is not a particularly creative or interesting one. Which is part of what makes Dorian so frustrating for me - Dorian did have an interesting, unique motivation, and the game did nothing with it. It got brushed aside for the "help stop the end of the world," because they needed him to be there but didn't want to develop the most interesting part of his character until the next game.

To be brief - I'm not really certain what's wrong with "helping stop the end of the world", when it leads to more than just people congratulating themselves at the end of the game and riding away towards the sunset. And aside from a post-Cory-killing party Dorian never really felt like he's just there patting himself on the back for job well done - he's pretty much acutely aware that the world won't remember his or Inquisitor's accomplishments much (he tells in a cutscene that nobody will thank him for his efforts and neither will Inquisitor - he even has "I told you so" moment about this in Trespasser) and if the change is going to last, they're going to keep working their a**es off. Plus, unless there are some major changes in Bioware or direction of DA, likely nothing is lost, because good chances are that in DA4 we get either part II of Inquisition, or a close continuation, which may or may not include quite a bit of Dorian :)

Anyway... kinda hard not to mention this song here ;)

lyrics

Spoiler

I can't help it,  the connection was instant the first time I heard this song, lol. Kinda fits I think - even the mention of Atlantis weirdly enough, considering that it was most likely a major inspiration for Arlathan and its destruction.

... Which is another reason why I bring about this song, since it mentions Atlantis, and Atlantis as we know from Plato's fable, has been swallowed by the ocean (inspired quite likely by real events, since long time before Plato wrote the myth, the island of Crete - home to successful and rich Minoan civilization with which Mycenaeans rivaled - was likely ruined by earthquakes and 300 feet/100 meter tsunami sent by raging eruption of volcano Thera).

And I know it's commonly assumed in Thedas that Arlathan sunk under the ground, but I remember reading somewhere that something or someone mentions that it rests at the bottom of the sea? I can't recall when I've read it though ...

It's the song from Trespasser, Mercy to the Elves.  One of the lines is, Arlathan fell so deep onto the ocean floor.

Edit to add:  As we don't really know what happened to Arlathan I'm not sure if sinking into the sea is an actual thing in the game world now or if Maryden was taking poetic license with the song.  I've not heard of that theory anywhere else though.

If Arlathan is at the bottom of the sea, does this mean we get to play a nerdy historian who ends up becoming a part of an expedition to discover this lost city, find Arlathan, fall in love with Elgar'nan's daughter and ends up saving Arlathan while getting to be its new king in DA4 ?

Arlathan - The Lost Empire.

Ah :D So it isn't even some old or random piece of information, but something fairly recent. I wonder how much of it is Maryden's "artistic license" and how much is legit or relevant in the future, considering song's almost prophetic tone/Bioware throwing some hints at us.

Well, that version of Atlantis had pretty much immortal citizens and an energy source that not only appears to be a power that is intrinsically connected to Atlanteans, but also glows blue :P

Replace the blue glow with Fade green glow, put some spirits around there & you could have Arlathan...

I hope Merrill makes an appearance in the next game, along with Fenris, and we get to hear their opinions on the Fen'Harel situation. I know Merrill wouldn't be ok with Solas' plan, and I'd like to think she is savvy enough to realize there's more to his plans than he's potentially shared with her, but I can see him having approached her. I'd like to see them interact, but I'd have loved it before the reveal, I think; when Merrill and the player could treat Solas like he was any other elf with interesting ideas. And Merrill with Cole would be interesting. (Fenris with Cole would likely start out awful, but possibly end up adorable.)

Cole makes everything better and more adorable, that's trufax.

I'd be all over interactions between Fenris-Merrill-Anders and Solas-Vivienne-Dorian-Cole-Sera.

I always kind of wondered if, when Solas says that the Tevinters built their civilization on the "bones of my people" (pretty sure he said that somewhere) he meant it quite literally.  As in Minrathous is built overtop the remains of Arlathan.

Well, Arlathan forest is located in Antiva, which isn't that far away from Minrathous as I recall... so maybe? Also, it wouldn't surprise me if there is something to the erroneous idea that the Tevinter magisters sank Arlathan underground.

It means he thinks it's cool? :)

I personally have never bought the theory that they cut off the Quizzy's hand just to cripple them in order to get rid of them...there's just.....no evidence of that at all, and I just don't see PW doing something like that. I think it is more likely they thought it was a cool Luke Skywalker type moment, and it gave them a way not to kill him/her off.

The Quizzy may or may not show up again, but if even they don't, it won't be because of the missing hand/arm being a problem, IMO.

Considering that Iron Bull was supposed to be an amputee first and how I've seen many DA devs swoon over Furiosa from Mad Max?

And that's aside from all the hints in Trespasser epilogue that Inky is still very active (only working in secrecy) and David Gaider revealing (twice now) that Dragon Age Inquisition was supposed to be twice as long plot-wise and that the second arc still exists and is in current lead writer's hands?

Yeah, I don't think Inkys are gone at all. Even if we assume that things during DA development will not go the way Bioware wants, I suspect we'd see them at some capacity either way. There's no point making Inquisitor appear like they're a counterpart to Dread Wolf (and building their almost Xavier-Magneto relationship) and underlining in epilogue that it's Inky that's going to stop or redeem Solas, if they're not planning to either write the story around it or make it an important element of it.

Yeah, Charlize Theron in Mad Max was really badass. I thought the same thing! I mean. I'm biased because I'd like to see our Quizzy back. But they've hinted that they think an artificial limb is a cool idea for a character, so, I wouldn't be surprised.

Yes, Trespasser's ending does lead us to expect the Inquisitor's return. Seeing PW taking an interest in prosthetics may or may not be related to DAI, but at this point, anything seems like welcome news to me :P  (Especially with the numerous "new protagonist" posts on this board).

Is it 2018 yet?...

Just curious (also hello my dear Solasmancers, I have arisen from the abyss again) any Lavellans here who use Sumalee's voice over Alix's? Love them both, and I'm currently playing a warrior Lavellan with Sumalee's voice and I love it ^^

Going down the road of angst with Solas of course

I prefer Sumalee Montano's voice over Alix Wilton Regan's voice.

Sumalee's voice sounds more exotic and more grown up whereas Alix's voice sounds like a typical British female.
