It hasn't been outright confirmed, but there's plenty of canon evidence that Fen'Harel was a subservient of some sort to Mythal. His statues in the entry to her temple, the codex in Trespasser about Fen'Harel as an attendant and guardian to her, Cole's comments about how "she" bid "him" to take a body. (Although I'm not convinced that last one refers to Mythal, because why would Solas be friends with someone who tried to enslave him?)

And just as I don't think Mythal is directly manipulating Solas, I don't think Solas is directly manipulating Mythal either. He didn't even know she was alive until the Temple, after all. As for why she didn't approach him, I don't know, especially since she's probably the one who woke him up in the first place. (Although... I can't quite remember, but hadn't Felassan been around for a few years prior to Masked Empire? That definitely predates the day Solas supposedly woke up.). I find it hard to believe she's planned everything all along, since Solas approaching her was the result of a random and unforeseeable string of events. Solas had to decide to try and fix the world, had to decide to give the Orb away, had to give it away to a unstable individual who would somehow survive the opening process and then use it for his own purposes, the Orb had to break or otherwise become unusable to Solas, and he would've had to know that Mythal was alive - after he had given the Orb away, natch, otherwise he'd just give it to her. Mythal would've needed to predict and depend on all of that in order to pull off this plan of hers - if Corypheus had simply died when the Orb opened, or Solas had successfully retrieved it, then she'd be dead in the water. And, y'know, both of those outcomes were more likely than what actually happened - Corypheus especially was an unpredictable wrench in the works, since he wasn't even running around until very, very recently, and his pretty rare ability to not-die is literally the only reason Solas' original plan didn't work.

I can see Mythal planning on Solas waking up, regretting his decision, and trying to fix it. So maybe the reason for her staying away relates to that.
oh that's right, he was legitimately surprised to see Mythal endured in the Temple. If Mythal had known about Solas in DA:O she would've intended on approaching him.  In that case, they are a surprise to each other. Mythal 'knew' Solas would approach her only as far back as some time during the Inquisition. I don't think Solas would've wanted to further harm Mythal if he knew she remained back when he intended coyrpheus to unlock the orb. It's a new development for him that she is there and vice versa. I suppose they were both brought up to speed in the finale when the Inquisitor was battling corypheus in the valley of sacred ashes, and they had intended to both reap the benefits of getting that orb back. Right? I mean, at the time of the finale battle with Corypheus, Solas was aware Mythal was around. And he apparently respects Mythal, and I'm sure that maybe he planned to go to Mythal first before tearing down the veil, with the orb in his possession, and allowing her into the fold then. I doubt he'd just planned to have her 'dead in the water' at that point. He would've dealt with her more delicately. And Mythal was aware he was aware, and in either case, orb or not, knew he'd be coming her way. And then.... both were surprised when they saw the orb broke after the Inquisitor killed Corypheus. So now it's bittersweet because she knows that she has to combine with Solas in order to have the necessary power to accomplish both of their goals.

So it wasn't an erosion of trust keeping them separate so much as a series of new developments. I return to the feeling that at the point of the epilogue eluvian, they both understand their positions and make a consentual arrangement to merge.

Even when Morrigan encounters Flemythal, and her son in the fade, Mythal was not aware the orb would break and that she'd need to merge with Solas, so that is why she still sought a young body. Even though, during the time that she met Morrigan and the Inquisitor in the fade, she was aware Solas was about to usher in the Evanuris' demise, perhaps she still wanted to persist after the reckoning for some reason.

But then, when the orb broke, she no longer needed a young body. Maybe when the orb broke, her vow to hunt Morrigan for her body eternally became null. It is still a disappointment to both Solas and Mythal that they must merge, an uncomfortable feeling. Before the orb broke, Mythal may have envisioned herself in a vapid 'tranquil' vessel with more autonomy to herself, and it's not as comfortable sharing a body with another Elvehn, or something.

Art post again.

Solas wearing the Shokra-taar and Sera laughing at him by nipuni. :P

'Be careful of the curse that falls on young lovers, starts so soft and sweet and turns them to hunters.'

Gorgeous traditional artwork of Solas with some sinister Dread Wolves.

Some Solas facial expressions. ^__^;

Modern AU Solas and Lavellan where Solas owns a school cafeteria/buffet and Lavellan is your typical troublemaker.

Lovely Solavellan art.

Solavellan WIP.

Lastly, not art, but an awesome-looking Solas cosplay.

Cole's comment was, "He didn't want a body but she asked him to come,"  Which sounds more like a friend who needs your help and asked you to do something as opposed to enslavement.

Don't have time for much more of a reply than that but Solas and Mythal's relationship seemed complicated and for all that he appears to care about her other things might be going on.

That said I hope Solas isn't being possessed by Mythal and rather that he's doing this under his own free will.  Possession would be kind of a cheap cop out.

Add to that the fact that in post-credit scene Mythal called him old friend, gave him a hug he accepted and Solas seemed genuinely mournful that he has to steal her powers. And in Trespasser he had good words to say about her.

*walks into thread*

Oh hey, folks.

I never really have anything Solas related to contribute here, but today, after months of nothing, I finally do.

The Shameless Enablers of the Blanket Fort Writing group decided to play Drawception.

And this was the result.

NSFW because of thong?

Spoiler

Now, back to the Shameless Enabler corner for me.

Good day to you all!

I vaguely remember a conversation in here several months (maybe weeks, my concept of time sucks) about ancient elves in mythology. Where the concept of elves being beautiful came from.  Here's an article that was just posted on my Facebook timeline I thought you all might find interesting.

Flemythal would have known from post veil Dalish legends that Fen'harel created the veil and locked away the Evanuris. One of the reasons why she never approached him might simply be due to not knowing where he was hidden? Afterall, Morrigan was able to hide Kieran for years.

With that said, she did mention how she's been pushing history in her favour.

1. She managed to preserve Great Dragon blood via Calanhad, who descendant are able to reawaken these Great Dragons now with the help of her daughter. My guess is that these Dragons are her loyal servants ... maybe even shape-shifted Elvhen?

2. Preserve Urthemiel's Soul and by saving the Warden end the Blight

3. By saving Hawke a series of events lead him awakening Corypheus (not sure if this was her plan or not)

4. Plans for Morrigan

Anyways it's been said (by Solas) that Elvhen magics could takes years - centuries- to set up; perhaps that's what she's been doing? For one thing, the Forbbiden Ones were able to escape after centuries of ritualized mass sacrifice in Kirkwall (read up Enigma of Kirkwall)

I do agree that the Orb breaking was not planned.

Tremendously tremendous I guess... I suppose the more important question is one asked by Mary Kirby: which is Patrick Swayze, and which is Jennifer Grey?

I have heard this weird theory that the soul of the old gods are  the fragments of Mythal soul, how can this theory be true?

It is based around the idea of splitting your soul with a dragon; in this case the theory is meant to be that Mythal split her essence with seven dragons and this is the reason she wants to save them and recover the pieces of herself.   I think that is the premise anyway.   Suggest you consult the actual thread to get the full theory.

OMG I just realized that one of my husbands in Fable 3 is totally played by RAMON TIKARAM. F*** YEAH.

Oh, here's a song for Solas that's totally legit. Complete with little bald looking dude that could totally be an elf. Even the album title is perfect. Dang, I impress myself.
