thanks. it wasn't really clear that it's the romance option though. With Cullen and Sera it basically says ATTENTION ATTENTION START ROMANCE WITH CULLEN.

I wish they stuck with either making it very obvious with every romance or not giving us the obvious options at all. With Dorian it was equally ambiguous.

And why isn't there a break up with Solas option then? Because he's above it? :D

I hated having the flirt option the one time I romanced Solas...Cullen's romance is my favorite and I kept wanting to jump ship and start a romance with Cullen but Cullen wouldn't let me.  :(  Still, I'm glad I did do a complete Solas romance (thanks Cullen).  :)

Flemeth had many lovers, yo. Where do you think her daughters come from? And nobody said that she wasn't feeling something more to men she picked as consorts.

Also - I think that if Lavellan, or any Inky that befriended Solas, was akin of a child to him Solas would never declare his friendship or love. Don't forget that Inky is a mystery to Solas, with a soul and wisdom that reminds him of people from pre-Veil times. That basically means that for him people like Inky are very mature.

If Flemeth ever showed any romantic interest in my PCs they'd RUN (sad thing is that they wouldn't be able to get away because she can do anything she wants to do).  :(

You can break up with him in each romance scene, at the balcony you can tell him to forget the kiss when the heart comes up, and then at Crestwood you can break up with him before things progress any further. The Solas romance in general is big on consent and mutual respect. If you don't want the romance then do not choose those heart options.

Just going to say, although I'm sure that you know since you retextured it... I don't think that Solas's sweater is meant to look dirty, it's just not bleached.  His sweater is the color that natural fiber often would be, particularly linen.

Alternatively he could have washed and scrubbed it so much over the years that it's become yellowed.

Scornful jabs from Vivienne and Dorian aside, I never actually got the impression that Solas was dirty.  Tattered, yes.  Dirty?  No.  Although he can probably get dirty and not mind it too badly.  Remember his reaction to the swamp?  ... Yeah.  Solas prefers to be clean, and eat frilly little cakes.  But to certain people, anyone who isn't dressed in the latest and most expensive fashion is filthy and uncouth.  Take it to a setting like Dragon Age and suddenly you have anyone who's not nobility being thought of by most nobles as disgusting and dirty and low, even if they were to launder their clothing daily.  Probably because nobles can afford to replace theirs often, whereas people like Solas or Sera have to wear what they have many times, and it will eventually be worn and faded and stained.

... So yeah.  I don't buy into the "Solas is dirty" thing just because Vivienne and Dorian wanted to say so to be mean to him about his clothing, when at that point he had no access to anything better.

Its not so different from some academics I know. They are clean and they wear simple shirt and jeans. They don't look dirty but to those who are up their arses about fashion, they look lame. Which is weird because they are highly intelligent people to whom fashionable clothing is not a high priority (they don't want to destroy the world though).

And a couple more... :P

Solas and Lavellan in the fade NSFW because of boobies and tentacles.

http://missbasha.dev...-Fade-601401143

So Solas is Hermaeus Mora ? The Dread Tentacle Wolf. I suppose this art falls under the consentacle genre. ;)

Or maybe Lavellan is just into tentacles. Must be a Japanese Lavellan.

Try dating Skyrim-style.

Skyrim is dating is efficient and profitable. You do something for someone, get a necklace that symbolizes the Goddess of Love and let a Priest of Mara officiate your wedding. Now you have a spouse who gives you meal that boosts the regeneration of health, stamina and magicka by 25% for 600 seconds. They may also surprise you with a gift. They will open a store and give you 100 gold each day and if you sleep with them, even if it is for 1 hour, you get a buff that allows you to improve your skills 15% faster for 8 hours.

Compare this to all the feels and drama of real life and Thedas dating and marriage...And its not hard to see why Skyrim marriage and dating is far popular...

But with Dorian I could break up at any given time. There was always a "We should end this" option at skyhold. Not saying the Solas romance is lacking consent or anything, I just find it confusing that the system works differently for character.

So far I preferred being bff with Solas to actually romancing him. I love him as a character but the romance scenes are a little... repetitive (?)

It's different variations of:

- Inky: - tries kissing Solas -

- Solas: NO

- Inky: ok, dude, no hurt feelings

- Solas: -walks away -

- Solas - comes back, kisses inky -

- Solas: We should end this

- Solas: - walks away -

- Inky: - watches him go yearningly-

I also wish the inquisitor had more blunt response options. Like "look, I love you but right now you're ****** annoying". Something like a rival-romance.

Thinking about loading an earlier save and going for the Cullen Romance...

Hmmm odd. I don't seem to remember the romance scenes being like that. But then I was distracted by the passionate kissing so maybe they were. ;)

There's definetely more to it than what I described. The scenery is always great, especially during the visit to haven as well as the rest of the dialogue. Only if you break down the pure romance-dialogue it's we-shouldn't-do-this/maybe we-should/no-we-shouldn't. I'm being nitpicky :D

Sneaking in here to ask what you guys think his reaction would be if told he was annoying in a blunt/funny way at the end of trespasser or the fade scene (since he seems more open there)?

I've been getting hints of feels when imagining the DA:4 trailer.. We're probably gonna see a mass migration of us back to the Solas thread .

The real simple answer to the bold part; the late addition of the Solas romance. Yes, Cullen was also added late in the game design. I can't remember if they ever stated for sure, who the last LI was (to make the list), but many do suspect Solas based on some twitter/interview quotes from Patrick Weekes. I am terrible at finding quotes (which shouldn't be an excuse  ), but they basically stated that Patrick wrote the romance on his own time, and when ML brought up the idea of another a romance, PW pretty much said "Um...well, here. And don't worry, it's race-gated and not too complicated to include." :) (Okay....totally made up that "quote", but it was the basic gist. )

Again, simplest answer - late entry/time, voice and animation budget. In a nut shell.

Listening to the soundtrack and I just realized I don't have the music from Trespasser.  Is it still free? Does someone have the link to it? :(

Yeah, the Solasmance was absolutely the most last minute, resource-starved romance in the game - it wouldn't even have been put in if the team hadn't happened to have extra time and budget.

Makes it's popularity all the more ironic. But I guess writing is more important than anything else.

I really don't think I would have enjoyed this game as much if Solas wasn't romanceable. My Lavellan would have romanced Cullen, while the romance is sweet, it is forgettable. I would have played the game once or twice and moved on. I certainly wouldn't have cried so much and spent all this money on Solas related items. :P

If Solas' romance hadn't been written...

I would have either romanced Sera because she's an elf and then been really angry, disappointed, and hurt by her ultimatum (break up--I don't want to be with someone who won't accept me), or I would have wised up before then and romanced Cullen. (My gal wasn't at all attracted to Iron Bull, Blackwall, or Josephine. Dorian's only into men, sadly.)

EDIT: Also, the game wouldn't have been the same for me at all. If they hadn't gotten the extension and the PC was human-only, I wouldn't have played. If I could be an elf and the entire game was the same except without the Solas romance, it would have been good, but not great. The Solas romance was what really made it feel like, "Wow, this was the perfect playthrough. I can't imagine playing as or romancing anyone else." I did, eventually, but not till a month later, and I haven't finished a single other playthrough since then.

The game just doesn't feel the same when I play anything other than an elf. I played a human and romanced Cullen, manged to finish that play through. I made a Qunari to romance Bull but that hasn't gone far. I get bored. The Solas romance just completes the game. It feels like it belongs there.

Admittedly I have more Solasmancing elves, than any other type of PC, but I have thoroughly enjoyed my PC's who romanced IB, Cass, Dorian and Cullen. I just enjoy Solas' content (both romanced and not-romanced) a bit more. I can't seem to romance anyone other than Solas, if I play a female elf. So it is probably a good thing for me (since I love games with replayability ;) ), that I do like playing the other races as well. And male elves are fair game for a couple of my other favorites. *thumbsup!* B)

Nice. I can't play a human in games that allow race selection, so I've had to make elves to romance Cullen. Since they all fall for Solas, it's been impossible, to say the least.  (I had to use my original playthrough and have her go to Cullen instead of Solas just before the balcony kiss to even get any of those scenes.)

Let's see... what have I done...

-I made a male Lavellan to romance Dorian, but he fell for Cassandra instead. That was surprisingly sweet, but I stopped the playthrough not too far in since I didn't like Cassandra at the time.

- I made another male Lavellan to romance Dorian--that one stuck--but then kind of quit after Dorian's two main quests and them telling Giselle off. I felt like I'd experienced the bulk of the romance (since all that was left was the ball and final battle), so it seemed like I didn't need more.

-I made a dwarf to romance Bull, but she fell for Solas, then kind of settled on Bull until about Skyhold when I realized she just wasn't into him, or anyone else, so I quit.

-I made a Qunari to romance Bull, but she fell for Cullen, then settled on Josephine, but then fell in love for real and was a sweet romance. Because of a bug, though, none of the specializations were showing up on my main character or companions once we got to Skyhold, so I started a new game and soon lost interest.

Actually, my DAI love life would be so much better if dwarves could romance Solas and Qunari could romance Cullen. I don't know why, but all my dwarves fall fast and hard for Solas, and all my Qunari are drawn to Cullen like catnip. If the devs had made it so dwarves and Qunari could romance these two guys, I probably would have completed my dwarven and Qunari playthroughs long ago.

I really need to make a male elf and romance Dorian. I've been playing Witcher 3, maybe when I done with that. He's going to be so pretty with long flowing hair like Fabio. Hmm....  *ponders*

Lol That's actually what my first male Lavellan looked like, but--insubordination!--he was straight and fell for Cassandra by the time they reached the Hinterlands. I was like, "Fffffffffff"

EDIT: Whoops! Top page. Here's Solas giving Cole sage advice.

I have a hard time playing a dwarf... I made a couple in DAO but finished playing after Duncan recruited them.  I find my Quinari kind of boring..maybe I just need to make a new one and start over.  I'm surprised I finished my human play through..but I really liked her personality. It helps when you get into your character and actually role play I think. I always play elves if I can. My ex used to call me a tree hugging hippy because I always play elven druids in D&D. :P

Ah, I have a harder time getting into character for a human than any other race. Even D&D half-orcs do it for me more than humans.

I enjoyed playing dwarves in DAO, but I think that's owing to the playable origin, the novelty of romancing an elf as a dwarf (Zevran!), going back to Orzammar later in the game, and the fact that my Dwarf Commoner actually liked being a Grey Warden. For once, I could actually feel invested in the organization and its goals that the player character is forced to join.

(This was her reaction. Spoiler'd for language.)

Spoiler

With DAI, there's not as much to work with for dwarves. No playable origin, no connection to Orzammar or Kal-Sharok, no elfy loving since Solas isn't into Cadash the way Zevran was into Brosca (Sera turns them off by laughing at their height the first time they meet), and the same recycled Carta thug background as Brosca. No to mention no real dwarfy areas, romances, or content apart from Dagna and Descent discovering their severed connection to the Titans. . Oh well, maybe next game.

Yeah, I'm not as into Qunari either. Partly because I'm tall in real life so I don't like playing the tallest character in a room. Also because we've never really seen Tal'Vashoth or Vashoth live their daily lives, so I have a hard time getting into her boots and imagining what her life has been and how it's shaped who she is.

But yeah, my favorite is by far elves. All the time. No exception. Every game. Even in games where they're ugly, like Skyrim. Lol I always play elven rangers in D&D games, so you're in good company.
