I have a hard time playing a dwarf... I made a couple in DAO but finished playing after Duncan recruited them.  I find my Quinari kind of boring..maybe I just need to make a new one and start over.  I'm surprised I finished my human play through..but I really liked her personality. It helps when you get into your character and actually role play I think. I always play elves if I can. My ex used to call me a tree hugging hippy because I always play elven druids in D&D. :P

Dwarfs are not may favorite race to play either, but I made one with the intention that she should "ride the bull" (mostly for lulz, I wanted to see how they handled the difference in height), but she had such a fun and free-spirited personality that I completely fell in love with her! She and Iron Bull also turned out to be a very sweet couple (in their own kinky way), just what I needed after Solas broke my Lavellan's heart...  :crying:

In my opinion her face also turned out rather well, especially considering the trouble I had learning how to use the CC. :)

Simple Solas WIP. Tried to have the mark show up on her hand but I failed miserably so I gave up on that, for now at least. And I wanted to put some text there in the corner. So I was trying to make sense of Project Elvhen but yeah...I better first learn what all the other things mean. Like noun and such. So much failure in one afternoon. :')

Actually, my DAI love life would be so much better if dwarves could romance Solas and Qunari could romance Cullen. I don't know why, but all my dwarves fall fast and hard for Solas, and all my Qunari are drawn to Cullen like catnip.

Its good to know I'm not the only one with this problem. I was originally going to play a qunari. She was the first character I made. And Cullen was who I intended for her cus I loved the idea of him falling for a qunari mage for some reason. But alas. Mods fix this to an extent, but the animation issues involved make me cringe still. XD

Of course, if I was able to romance Cullen, I wouldn't have rerolled and made an elf for Solas instead. Whcih was worth it. Nothing can quite beat that moment of realization at the end of the game when I figured out I'd romanced the friggin' Dread Wolf. lol And that surprise is obviously only possible on that first, blind playthrough.

Admittedly I have more Solasmancing elves, than any other type of PC, but I have thoroughly enjoyed my PC's who romanced IB, Cass, Dorian and Cullen. I just enjoy Solas' content (both romanced and not-romanced) a bit more. I can't seem to romance anyone other than Solas, if I play a female elf. So it is probably a good thing for me (since I love games with replayability ;) ), that I do like playing the other races as well. And male elves are fair game for a couple of my other favorites. *thumbsup!* B)

I'm really drawn to Josievellan for a Lavellan romance.  Male or female, it doesn't matter.

I have a hard time playing a dwarf... I made a couple in DAO but finished playing after Duncan recruited them.  I find my Quinari kind of boring..maybe I just need to make a new one and start over.  I'm surprised I finished my human play through..but I really liked her personality. I love dwarfs in DA. I just love playing mages more.

Ah, I have a harder time getting into character for a human than any other race. Even D&D half-orcs do it for me more than humans.

I enjoyed playing dwarves in DAO, but I think that's owing to the playable origin, the novelty of romancing an elf as a dwarf (Zevran!), going back to Orzammar later in the game, and the fact that my Dwarf Commoner actually liked being a Grey Warden. For once, I could actually feel invested in the organization and its goals that the player character is forced to join.

(This was her reaction. Spoiler'd for language.)

Spoiler

With DAI, there's not as much to work with for dwarves. No playable origin, no connection to Orzammar or Kal-Sharok, no elfy loving since Solas isn't into Cadash the way Zevran was into Brosca (Sera turns them off by laughing at their height the first time they meet), and the same recycled Carta thug background as Brosca. No to mention no real dwarfy areas, romances, or content apart from Dagna and Descent discovering their severed connection to the Titans. . Oh well, maybe next game.

Yeah, I'm not as into Qunari either. Partly because I'm tall in real life so I don't like playing the tallest character in a room. Also because we've never really seen Tal'Vashoth or Vashoth live their daily lives, so I have a hard time getting into her boots and imagining what her life has been and how it's shaped who she is.

But yeah, my favorite is by far elves. All the time. No exception. Every game. Even in games where they're ugly, like Skyrim. Lol I always play elven rangers in D&D games, so you're in good company.

That Brosca reaction... yup.

The only thing mine was worried about was leaving her sister.  As soon as Rica said that her lover was moving her and their mother into the Diamond Quarter, Brosca could not get out of there fast enough.

She is a cutie!  My Cadash is a redhead because she's going to be a Bull rider.

(I was putting off her playthough because Bull was her backup romance.  I meant her for Harding and hoped BW might expand that...)

That is one cute dwarf Inquisitor, props to you! :D

If she messed her hair up and dyed it darker, she'd be the spitting image of a fem!Cadash I've got lined up for Blackwall. I'm going to roll another save with her though that pairs her with Bull and Sera afterwards, since I'm a huge fan of dwarf/non-dwarf romances.

(And because without any canon dwarf LI, we need to give them all the love they can get, dangsarnit!)  :pinched:

Currently distracted with a playthrough where Commander Hair Products is seducing my female mage Trevelyan. I had meant to recreate my original Lavellan for another Solavellan run, but I kind of gave up after the fifth time of failing to get her looking right, probably need to dig up my old save so I can look at her sliders again.

Fun fact, my dwarf was heavily inspired by Harding... can you tell?  ;)

Romancing Iron Bull as a dwarf really was unexpectedly fun, so I recommend everyone to try it! They really were cute together!  <3

I'm really hoping that we will be able to romance a dwarf the next game, because it is about damn time they get some love! *looks att Varric and sighs deeply*

Edit* My dwarf has no mods as I'm on the PS4, so yes I am rather proud of her  :P

thanks. it wasn't really clear that it's the romance option though. With Cullen and Sera it basically says ATTENTION ATTENTION START ROMANCE WITH CULLEN.

Today I searched the Internet for the whole cant-break-up-with-solas-business and stumbled across a reddit thread titled "How do i dump Solas?". Made me laugh way more than it should so I thought I’d share (don’t read if you can’t stand solas hate though. I love solas but I find the way he annoys people really amusing :) ).

So, I finally read the link Addictress posted earlier... always interesting reading people's thoughts on where the series is heading. :)

I was happy to actually see someone who actually understood that Ragnarök isn't so much about the End of the World as it is about rebirth (Norse mythology does not view time quite as linear as most Western religions do). I do believe that there is potentially going to be some kind of showdown between either Solas or our PC and the Evanuris... my guess is whatever plans Solas has to neutralize them will fail and it will be up to us to stop them from devastating everything. The writers usually like to subvert existing tropes and expectations, so I'm sure that whatever happens we will be in for a major surprise or two!

However, I do not believe there is any connection whatsoever to Fenris except for the fact that I think the markings Danarius gave him are originally Elven. I mean, Fenris was a name given to him and not something he was born with, and that is the only real connection we have between the characters. If anyone was a descendant of Solas (or any of the Evanuris) my guess would be Avexis from Dawn of the Seekers (she did have an unusual connection to dragons).

Edit* Just remembered that her connection to dragons came from her being forced to drink dragon's blood... still think she is more likely than Fenris though ;)

Man, I hope not. The idea that someone with god-like powers such as Solas has shown being a wimpy kid in the corner to our Super! Special! Winner! PC! would irritate me. I'm cool with not being the magical snowflake that saves the world every time, never mind with Solas already being seen as the colossal eff-up that we need to scold. Kind of reduces the character and the idea of what the future story holds if we get to ride in and save the day from the ever-so-silly Not-PC.

I'd love to see a showdown between Solas and some other great power, but would rather the part of my PC be taking care of other issues while that's happening. Then I could feel a part of it, but not that I've stolen the show in a totally abitrary-for-my-ego way.

I've probably said this before, but was anyone else as horrified and had their gut utterly wrench to hear the line "I no longer speak to dragons" from the Tranquil Elf that we see roaming around Haven... making you realise that she's in reality the grown up Avexis from Dawn of the Seeker.

Damn, after being traumatised, that poor girl's life ended up becoming even worse, especially with her other line about unpleasant things that happened to her after she became Tranquil. I especially hate that we never see her post-Haven, making it unclear if she made it out unscathed.

:(

I'd say more... I wouldn't mind if it was Inquisitor that effed up something :D Gosh, can you imagine how cool it would be if "whatever cost necessary" to stop Solas would be releasing or having a deal with Evanuris and then either the deal is broken or Inquisitor gets turned into some overpowered foe DA4 PC has to defeat in Solas stead or Evanuris stead or something? I'd play killing/dark deal route just for that.

I've heard that the decision to make Solas romanceable was a last minute decision and it really shows.

No option to kiss him whenever you want and no extra dialogue to discuss the relationship as you can with the Iron Bull or Cullen.

Well, here's the thing - Cullen was also a late addition, yet he has all the scenes. Question is then whether it was really "oops, we had no time for more things", or if they tried to take a different "less is more" sort of approach.

It's a very unique romance after all, not only in a sense that Solas is most likely the antagonist in next DA4 and we *may* or may not get a conclusion for there as well - they also wanted to keep things more ambiguous, with a lot more wavering and reluctance... plus I did notice that, while Solas has less romance scenes compared to others, they're also much more thoughtfully constructed, with a lot of them relying on visual language (there are a lot of things said through either background, colors, scene composition or little details) compared to other romances.

I'll go with that, myself. While more scenes would have been nice, they weren't really necessary to get the emotion and depth of the relationship across. The writing and cinematics took care of that, and what we lack in number of lip-mashing scenes was more than made up for by the passion in the ones we did get.

And... maybe it just fit my particular Lavellan, but she certainly didn't need joined-at-the-hip continual smooching to feel loved or to love in return. I was both impressed and surprised by how much Patrick and the rest of the team managed to pack into those few bits of dialogue. Serious props to them.

Them taking a "less is more" approach does makes sense because the four kisses we do get end up being extremely memorable because of it... but it could be that as well because character-wise, Solas is a rather private guy who doesn't really go for public displays of affection.

The four instances that Solavellan kiss all take place in private moments with just the two of them, their encounter in the Fade, the kiss on the balcony, when he offers to remove the vallaslin and when he removes the Anchor at the end of Trespasser.

While we don't get repeated kisses, the ones we did get definitely ended up leaving a very lasting impression as a result.
