No, you are not mistaken. I am quite sure I remember seeing Solas' ears poking through his hood, at times.
I noticed that they began poking through hoods (in Solas case at least) after one of the patches.
Speaking of mages, hoods, and elf-ear-like projections, it struck me as odd that the Tevinters, including Gereon Alexius, Crassius Servis, and Lucanus seem to like hoods with elf-ear-like details sewn onto the sides. I wonder if there is any reason for that? It seemed especially odd since the Tevinters really tend to look down on elves as slaves. Why would they want any of their fashions to mimic the people they hold in such low esteem?
Of course there's a reason for that - as much as Tevenes sneer at elves, they still base a lot of their culture on elvhen one. Weekes even goes as far as saying (in recent interview with Biofan) that when Vints arrived at the continent, they didn't build as much as they just spray-painted elvhen cities and monuments they found and pretty much left it at that.
It's basically Elvenhan 2.0. And I wouldn't be surprised if there were more intriguing connections with old Elvenhan we may find out about in DA4...
Plus... well... if people find something works or looks cool enough they will adapt it either way. We've seen it happen IRL as well.
I also wouldn't be surprised if 'elf ears' help with magic casting or something, since I have a sneaking suspicion that they're so pointy and stuff because they basically work like Fade antennas
There's even some vague confirmation of that in Cole's comment to Sera:
