Random shower thought - do you guys think Solas would be any good at Secret Hitler?

I mean, I guess all of Inquisition was basically a long high-stakes game of Secret Hitler for him. But maybe that means he'd intentionally throw any game he plays to throw off suspicion. :|

...Do you think the Dalish ever play Secret Dread Wolf?

I... have no idea what Secret Hitler is. Is it like one of those guess the murderer games?

I... have no idea what Secret Hitler is. Is it like one of those guess the murderer games?

I guess? Basically it's a game where about half the players are liberals - good guys - and half the players are fascists - bad guys - and one of the fascists is Hitler, and every turn a single player is elected to be president. The fascists all know who their fellow fascists are, but none of the liberals know who anyone is - which is a problem, because fascists and liberals have different and mutually exclusive win conditions. For instance, liberals win if they manage to get a set number of cards in play, or find and kill Hitler (Certain points in the game allow you to assassinate other players.) Fascists win if they get a set number of a different set of cards in play, or if they manage to get Hitler elected as a dictator rather than president (which can only happen when another, lower number of cards are in play.)

Every game quickly descends into sneaky-sneak Hitlers trying to play the board while everyone wildly accuses everyone else of being fascist.

Although, it's best to be a bit docile when you're Hitler, since the liberals will all be trying to kill you. So fascists tend to be the real power gamers, because they can get stuff done without risking the entire game if they're assassinated. Of course, sometimes playing a really obvious fascist as Hitler will throw people off and overlook you. But sometimes people will pick up on that and figure you out for Hitler anyway...

It's a very mind-gamey sort of thing.

That's...

Fen'Hilarious.

Yisssssssssssssssssssssss

I don't see anything wrong with that. Those concept arts are cool and nothing says those murals in Trespasser are how he has always looked forever and ever. He might have shaved the hair in a symbolic cutting of ties with his decadent Evanuris lifestyle when he decided to rebel. Or he shaved it earlier, after the war that he fought in, likely the same one that launched himself and the Evanuris into power and prestige. Its a perfectly defensible headcanon.

I like to think he is at least capable of growing hair. Because if baldness somehow turns out to be an Ancient!Elf thing or pre-Veil thing and all my Elves lose their hair if the Veil ever drops, I'll be one sad cookie. So yeah, I imagine he had hair, once. But in my head, he shaved (or magicked) his hair off because it would be more convenient for when he went in uthenera.

Well, IDK if there is a purpose, but sometimes you can see the elves in the Temple of Mythal sans helmet and they are all bald -- so I like to think that it's a ritual of sorts to shave your head after you wake up from uthenara. HEAD-RELATED HEAD CANON.

Or it could be rebel related, yeah. The pantheon seem to be pretty hoity toity types so shaving one's mane might be like proclaiming you care not for their outlook and antics. In other words: a way of saying their values are POOP. However there is ingame evidence to refute this theory, as the murals of the other pantheon members also depict them hairless.

Yet having said that, I can't help but imagine Solas as like the Sparrow or something from GoT.

Personally, I still favor the headcanon that when one awakes from uthenara, the head is shaved. When they sleep the hair might get reaaaally long, you know? So shaving is like a thing. A cultural thing. Or a spiritual one. It might denote the more powerful elves because, hey -- if they had to shave their head -- that means they were able to slip in to uthenara. Shaved head = powerful elf. Or, at the very least, a hairless head reveals who recently woke up. Similarly, one might be able to tell how long ago one was in uthenara by the state of how much hair had grown back! :>

I like this theory because it is also kind of symbolic of waking up from uthenara/entering uthenara as a bit of a rebirth.

Speaking of Solas shaving his head, bringing this fanart back. ;)

Spoiler

And yes, I do like the idea that Solas probably shaved his head, since I personally headcanon that he did have hair when he was younger. Not necessarily the dreadlocks, but just hair.  ;)

And now, art post. :P

I like all of this post save for the comparison to the High Sparrow. I would never compare an overzealous, religiously fanatic to Solas as they all act like their word is the only truth there is. Whilst Solas is open to other ideas. Like in one of his banters with Cassandra:

  • Cassandra: I know my abilities do not come from the Maker, as I had once thought...
  • Solas: Your abilities declare the world real. Who, if not the Maker of this world, could grant such a gift?
  • Cassandra: You believe in the Maker?
  • Solas: I am always open to new ideas.

Try telling the High Sparrow that there might be other gods than the Seven...

Omgosh yes, haha sorry I wasn't meaning to suggest his character is like a reflection of the High Sparrow's. More like... And you may laugh at this: I had sudden imagery of Solas cosplaying the High Sparrow. Hahaha. Apologies. It just randomly occurred to me and I can tend to ramble. I blame GoT obviously. And I blame the rebellious vibe + shaved heads + "best intentions" business.

I did laugh at this! Maybe it's because they're both into shabby chic? :P I just had to comment on it because I really hate the High Sparrow and not Solas, obviously haha!

Back from no-internet land!

To add to the recent conversation: I'm not 100% certain that the mosaics of the Evanuris do actually depict them as being bald. I find the mosaics to be quite crude, stylistically, but the patterns of the tesserae around their heads do suggest hair to me.

Elgar'nan seems to have a centre-parted updo, like he's standing above a very windy New York subway ventilation grille, and his long, straight hair is blowing upwards.

I admit it is harder to see hair on Mythal, unless the darker-coloured tesserae at the centre of her halo effect represent a (bad) haircut. Can I say that I like that she has saggy boobs and a pregnant-looking belly, and also that she holds five white flowers. Do you suppose they represent her five children? She is the all-mother, after all.

Falon'din might have a very thick head of hair like his dad, but it falls downwards on either side of his head instead of flaring upwards like sun rays. I find it similar to an ancient Egyptian wig.

The tesserae around Dirthamen's head seem to suggest a hood to me. Considering that he is the god of secrets and hoods are very rogue-like accessories, I suppose that is not really surprising. And, as we all know, once you put on a hat in Dragon Age, your hair disappears. ;D  (Also,I'm not sure whether he is holding his hands over his mouth like the speak-no-evil monkey, or puking in his mouth. It's hard to say.)

Andruil's hair seems to have taken after her dad's, inasmuch as it floats straight up above her head. She does not have a center part, but she does have some nice highlights on her left side.

Sylaise wears a pretty crown of leaves or petals, which may be holding up a crown of hair as well. The rest of her hair falls about her shoulders. It's reminiscent to me of some ancient Roman women's hairstyles.

June seems to be wearing a hood-mask type of thing so his hair might all be hidden by that. Or, he might have a kick-ass mohawk. There are a lot of lines of small tesserae sprouting straight up from his head that suggest as much.

Ghilan'nain possibly went for the Elgar'nan/Andruil troll doll hairstyle, or she might have a side ponytail draped over her right shoulder.

And Fen'Harel is a wolf, so he is absolutely covered in hair.

Or maybe it's for some utterly banal reason?

Perhaps maybe Solas found himself with nits, so was forced to shave his dreadlocks off to get rid of them? Then continued to do so because he really didn't want to be known was the "Itchy Wolf" among the Evanuris. Or maybe he started right before the fall of Arlathan, while on a personal hygiene kick, he decided to begin shaving his head (along with manscaping)?

 :P

In a perfect world I'd say I agree, but this is the DA fandom. A lot of the fandom gets mad when BioWare doesn't respect their personal headcanons for their characters even when their headcanon goes against established canon (like the whole "My Queen Cousland and King Alistair had seven dozen kids, so how dare they say my Warden went to find a cure for the Calling instead of staying home with their babies!" even though it's pretty much canon that Alistair never has a kid outside the Dark Ritual AND Warden + Warden = Infertile), so I wouldn't get my hopes up for people differentiating "headcanon concept art younger Solas" with "actual canon younger Solas."

It's actually for this very reason that I explain to myself why my Queen Cousland was going to look for a cure instead of staying with Alistair to help him rule Ferelden. They do need heirs and the only possibility of them having heirs is if either one but preferably both of them get cured.

Although, I have had this idea for a fanfic ever since I first played Origins back when it was just released, just never got around to actually writing it. Where my female Dalish Elf was -the- Warden and some, if not all, of the other potential Wardens survive their origins as well and join up to help defeating the Blight. But, without becoming Wardens themselves. Including my Female Cousland with whom Alistair could have heirs with. Now, with DAI, I also like to imagine that my female Amell at some point would join up with the Inquisition and would finally be reunited with Cullen. I've rooted for Cullen x Amell since the beginning and also the fact that Lavellan x Solas will forever be my canon couple for DAI but feel that Cullen needs some love too.

I seriously want this mug!

Actually, Bioware should make one of those mugs where the picture on the side changes depending on the heat of the drink... so we could get a mug that changes to a lovely grumpy Solas whenever it's filled with something warm, like a nice cup of tea?
