I don't think the consensus was actually that Lavellan would be unlikely to return to her clan ... the discussion was mostly about how the clan would react to her no longer having vallaslin and the consensus was mostly that there were bigger problems facing the clan/world at that time (before Solas has been dealt with) than Lavellan's missing tattoos so the clan would probably not react too negatively. If I remember that discussion correctly.
Also, apologies for any weird phrasing or misspellings. It's before 6 am and I'm not usually up so I may be only semi-coherent.
Ok, that conversation, I remember.
I have a question of my own that I don't recall seeing discussed here. So, basically, everyone besides Cole disapproves in Trespasser if you choose the "I have to save him!" option after the Qunari lady tells you he's an agent of Fen'Harel and she's gonna go kill him. From their lack of reaction if you just choose the non-romanced "We've got to save Solas.", I think they may disapprove more of Lavellan's emotions being in the driver's seat there rather than the actual idea of saving Solas' life at that point. But whether they approved or not about saving him at that point, that's still before they learn about his plans.
So, my question is this: If the opportunity comes to save Solas from himself, or if he's given up his current path on his own, how do you think the companions and advisors would react?
Like, for one, I can see Blackwall standing by him almost immediately. He's been in the position of doing something terrible he regrets, taking on a new persona to "fix"/atone for the past actions, and lying to his friends about it. He didn't go the extra step and put himself in opposition to those friends, but he still understands the overwhelming need to make things right. And since both the Warden and the happy Non-Warden Blackwall epilogues have a theme of him helping strangers in the darkest places (either literally or figuratively), I can see him doing no less for Solas.
I also think Bull would be on Solas' side, as he'd figure out quickly that Solas' change of heart was legit since he's so observant. And Bull is generally a very empathetic guy and we've seen his penchant for adopting strays with the Chargers. There are definitely circumstances that could prevent it, but I think that, generally speaking, he'd be able to forgive Solas.
Cole is obvious. Varric I could see forgiving him in time. Maybe. Would depend on how far Solas descends before he has his change of heart. If you import a save with Anders alive, listen to how Varric talks about him and you see what I mean.
Cassandra will punch him, of course. I honestly don't know if she could forgive Solas. Even if he doesn't really hurt anyone from this point on, which seems unlikely, he's still responsible for giving Corypheus his orb, still responsible for knowing Corypheus was at the conclave with that orb and not doing/saying something about it. He's indirectly responsible for all those deaths, including Justinia and Regalyan. Cassandra is compassionate and I want to believe she could forgive him, but she'd have to have her own reckoning with him first.
Softened Leliana would be able to forgive. She might even be like Blackwall with the level of understanding she'd have. Hardened Leliana would shank him. lol
Sera'd probably try to give him arrows and have to be held down. Vivienne would (ironically to all involved) side with Sera. Viv is one of my favorite characters, and she's very good friends with my Lavellan, but I have a hard time coming up with a scenario or a reason she'd be willing to give Solas a chance. Maybe if they were all facing a greater evil and they needed him alive to help with it? He could, perhaps, prove himself to her during that. But it'd be hard. Woman doesn't exactly forgive and forget.
So yeah, enough wall of text. What about you guys?
