Art post.

Lovely sketch of Trespasser Solas.

After spending 200+ hours per playthrough, the artist just wants her Lavellan to date both Solas and Josephine.  ^_^

'Fen'Harel ma halam'. Solas and the Dread Wolf.

(Shared by NightSymphony earlier but if you want to reblog it on Tumblr, here it is.)

Some Dragon Age doodles by paperwick.

Solas doodles:

And the rest of the doodles. (Dorian, Vivienne, Sera, Cass, Blackwall.)

Spoiler

WIP of Lavellan and the Dread Wolf.

Lavellan and Cullen kissing, with Solas looking at the tiny elven artifact that she's holding (no, he's not sniffing Cullen's butt. xD)

Based on this post.

The Inquisitor kissing all the companions and advisors goodnight. So cute! :D

Spoiler

And lastly, Solas sculpture fun time! Solas and Solas v2.0 kiss!

EDIT: Top post. Here are some nice gifs of Dragon Age characters with glitchy drinking animations. :P

I also remember I never actually said Lavellan must deal with her clan immediately. Fenedhis lasa.

Uh .. k?  You seem annoyed.  I'm not sure why.  I didn't say anything insulting, I was just reiterating the gist of the conversation to someone.  I don't recall if you said anything about when Lavellan deals with her clan sans vallaslin but, if I remember correctly, most of the responses were in the context of after Trespasser but before Solas had actually been dealt with.  So .. yeah, not sure what's wrong?

Hi there, I've a question about when Solas got his agents to give his orb to Corypheus.   He said he only woke up a year in advance of the events in DAI but Corypheus claims his ritual at the Shrine of Sacred Ashes was years in the making, including making the anchor (presumably based off knowledge he got from the orb).   Now the ritual clearly involved using the orb, presumably to unlock it, so when exactly did he get this?    Solas surely wouldn't have had his agents give the orb to Corypheus before he was awake as he needed to be close at hand to recover it.   Also after the assault on Haven Solas says how he is surprised Corypheus had the power to unlock the orb, yet in Trespasser he says he deliberately had it given to him for that very purpose and he was only surprised that he survived.    He also seems to indicate that the anchor was also his own, which was why he was able to control it.   So I am increasingly puzzled about the contradiction between what Corypheus claimed and what Solas states.   Can anyone shed any light on this?

"Solas hates tea because his mugs never seem to behave. He suspects it's due to Spirits trolling him for putting up the Veil."

"Velanna never really took being a Warden all that seriously. Not that anyone could tell."

"Krem tends to spill his beer after a few drinks. Bull was mortified when Krem finally told him that a "drinking problem" meant something far different in their language, because Bull had been riffing jokes on this theme for the first six months they worked together."

I wouldn't say it's necessary for Solas to be awake when he gave Corypheus the orb. He does state that he had his agents lead Venatori to the artifact - the Venatori, not Corypheus per se, I'd like to note. I wonder if it means that he didn't choose Corypheus specifically, merely "leader of Venatori" (which Cory would either organize or gain leadership of some time earlier in the plot, based on Calpernia's story) to whom the Venatori would eventually deliver the orb.

It would actually explain why Solas knows so little about Corypheus prior to his reveal (he approves of every question Inky asks about Corypheus during mage alliance quest and he appears to be utterly surprised after Haven is first attacked by Red Lyrium Dragon, exclaiming "That is not possible!" in a tone that I could only describe as utter shock) and why he said "I never though a Tevionter magister would have a power to unlock the orb" and not stuff that would in any way indicate he knew that this particular magister was a blighted horror from ancient times, never mind his ability to body-hop on top of all that. So him saying to Inky in Skyhold later that Cass and Varric seem to be more familiar with Corypheus... might actually be true.

But anyway - basically, it may have happened any time prior to his awakening. We do know from The Masked Empire - the events happened prior to his awakening - that then plan was already being put into action, with his agents being sent on important mission while he's still asleep.

Both these quotes are about different things - Trespasser one was about Corypheus surviving, the Skyhold one however was about tapping to Orb's powers, which helped him enhance his abilities and know at least a few secrets of ancient elvhen magic (like the one that helped him create RL dragon he's bonded with).

Solas has probably expected of Tevinter Mage - whether he knew that Cory is a blighted ancient magister or no - to unlock Orb only enough to gain knowledge how to obtain the Anchor, but not much else, hence he sounds pretty angry when he says "it clearly enhances his abilities, giving him access to powers he should have never known!".

With that said, Cory's access to Orb's power still seems limited - he's unable to re-claim the Anchor, or re-create it, even in dark future where he rules everything and he focuses all his attention on scouring ancient elvhen ruins and creating the Vessel to claim Well of Sorrows for himself, since apparently knwoledge or power stolen form the Orb eludes him. He also seems unaware that by creating RL dragon he basically creates his Achilles' heal, the striking of which disrupts his body-hopping ability and lets Inquisitor slay him in the end.

Probably because stealing Elven stuff and passing it off as their own work seems to be the Tevinter national pastime.

Between Corypheus claiming both the Orb and the Anchor are his, I've wondered elsewhere whether or not he might have even appropriated the title of the "Elder One" as well. We do know that the Elven people refer to their senior figures or leaders as by the title of Hahren meaning "Elder", so who would qualify as more of an Elder One than someone who was an Ancient Elf?

Would be appropriate given how Solas was essentially the real antagonist of Inquisition, that the title of "Elder One" was originally another one of Solas' epithets, something his followers might have called him since the title of Dread Wolf was originally an insult used by his enemies?

My ambition to get my roommate to romance Solas was a bust.

Keep in mind that he opted to play DAI first before any of the other games, so he's not at all invested in the lore the way we are. His female elven mage gets along best with Sera and Vivienne, she believes she was chosen by Andraste ("No! You're Jewish! You don't go with the Christian god!" I cried to no avail--we're both Jewish), and he just doesn't like Solas.

Our poor Solas. I convinced my roommate to become a female elven mage, but he decided he wanted his character to have all the offensive spells and so gave Solas only defensive/support spirit spells, then complained that he was useless in battle, and so left him in Haven. I also keep trying to convince him to bring Solas places because, "Solas can give context to all this elfy/Fade stuff" (like Veilfire, ruins, etc), but then he just goes, "That's okay, I'm an elf/mage" and keeps playing. (And it takes all my patience not to scream, "Yeah, but you don't know about any of this stuff!") I finally convinced him to go talk to Solas at Haven and ask questions, but he was completely uninterested in anything Solas had to say. When I said "you can flirt with him," my roommate looked at him, traced his finger around Solas' bald head, and asked, "Are there any better looking romance companions this game?" I had to admit it is so, and he said, "Okay, not interested," and that was that. Solas is out of the running.

My roommate then asked, "Can I be a lesbian this game?" and I confirmed it. His eyes widened and he said, "I'll bet Vivienne and my girl will make a badass couple." I take some small satisfaction in knowing he'll be disappointed when he learns; but considering Sera is his second favorite character, his disappointment will probably be short-lived.  -_-

I kind of wish I hadn't talked him into playing a female elven mage. It'd be easier to watch him ignore all the elfy stuff if his character wasn't an elf. Or, if he'd played a female elf and had been if a rogue like he initially wanted (but I sort of talked him out of), he might have built up Solas properly and at least liked him as a combat companion if not conversation companion. I'm so sorry, team. I let you down.

He didn't know there are other romances in the game? Did he not notice all the heart options? Did he assume the heart option just meant you were being really friendly?

...Because I made that mistake a lot in DA2. Needless to say I was bit bewildered by how many people wanted in my Hawke's pants.

...If you guys didn't figure it out already sometimes I can be really dense...

He barely talks to the other companions. I have to push him to it every time.

He also doesn't tend to look at the icons very closely. He gives a very swift, cursory glance at the options and just picks whichever one he feels like that moment. He NEVER asks questions (which I think someone this lore-starved should be doing), so he barely gives a look to dialogue options to the left of the wheel, let alone scroll over to see the heart icon.

Granted, at this point in the game too he only had Solas, Cassandra, Varric, Sera and Vivienne, so it's not like he'd seen all DAI has to offer. (Then again, he showed no interest in Cullen, and I doubt he'll find Blackwall or Bull more handsome than Solas--no offense to any Blacky or Bully fans.)

He's not a bad roommate and I'm sure he's not playing the game wrong... but he sure doesn't play it the way I like to play it. I'm all about characters and lore, but he's just about combat, exploration, and loot. Which I guess is how most people play (let's be honest), but it's painful for me to watch because it's like, "You're not showing this world or Solas the appreciation they deserve!"

I have a similar project going with a friend, I let her try DA:I for a few hours and she really liked Solas and refered to him as her "bestie" (sadly she's playing a male elven rogue, so no delicious heartache for her). I then made her play DA:O (which she loved) and there she romanced Zevran (initially she didn't want to, I more or less forced her to give him a chance, and then she fell completely in love with him). She's just started DA2, and I'm very curious what she'll think - she is very random about who she likes. So yeah, I can understand your feelings (there have been similar instances when I more or less wanted to smack her head!) but hopefully your friend might come around eventually. Good luck!  :D

Thank you for the input.   The idea that Solas might have originally been referred to as the "Elder One" had never occurred to me but I have to admit it does make sense.  So Corypheus knew that it was called the "Orb of the Elder One" and so appropriated the title for himself.    Also you are probably right that it was just Tevinter arrogance that makes Corypheus claim so much for himself because he can't bring himself to admit that he had to rely on an elven artefact at all.

I experienced this level of frustration when I tried to introduce DAO to my sister.

She wanted to treat it like a "beat the boss and go to the next level" kinda game and had absolutely no interest in speaking to the companions.

Solas being known as "The Elder One" actually doesn't make much sense either, in the context of lore.

Remember, there are/were other elves much older than Solas.  Solas speaks of growing up in a small village--we don't know whether he embodied as a spirit more or less fully grown, or was a child at some point.  Either way, pretty much everyone else in the village before he existed would have been older than him.  Mythal would presumably be older, as would Elgar'nan.

Contextually, once the other evanuris were sealed away, Solas could have conceivably been the oldest elf to wander the world.  But the only way that this is possible is if everyone older than Solas had failed to survive uthenera (remember from The Masked Empire that most elves could not learn to sustain themselves from the Fade, and thus uthenera was death).  To his followers, perhaps he was Hahren, but it seems just as likely he adopted the name "Fen'harel" instead.

In other news, I had a weird dream involving Solas.  He was declaring to his beloved that they should just leave their bodies behind and guard a specific area of the Fade... she didn't want to do that because it meant death.  Kind of creepy.

I don't know, at least your friend likes the characters you tried to direct her towards--likes Solas as a bestie even though she's not romancing him, loves Zevran at your behest, willing to play DA2, etc.

I tried to get my roommate into the whole series but he skipped the first two games and went straight to the third; only likes the companions as combat sidekicks rather than interact-able characters (again, I have to push him to talk to any of them), and the few characters he likes are the ones I dislike. Vivienne and Sera are my least favorite characters whereas they're his favorite, and Solas is my favorite but his least favorite. (I wouldn't put it past him not to like Cole or Dorian once his character meets them.)

I really like this post by dragonageinquisitionart.tumblr.com talking about... you know how characters like Leliana can be 'softened' or 'hardened' depending on what you say to them, or what actions you perform... well, our choices in Inquisition might impact Solas' possibility of redemption in DA4.

Just to be nitpicky but not letting Solas kill the mages in his personal quest is not represented in the Keep at this time.  Unless that changes, it won't be a deciding point.  I would, however, think that trying to save Wisdom would be (or should be).

Seems like an oversight on Bioware's part. Preventing Solas from killing the mages in his personal quest seems exactly like something that should affect your future relationship with him.

I agree.  I'm really hoping they update the Keep with more decisions ... but I also understand their need to limit the number of variables that go into the next game.  So we'll see.

I certainly hope a softened Leliana is not a must, she is a hardened Divine in my canon playthrough.

Ugh, I would be a quite a bit upset if one thing my Inky said at the very beginning of the game determined the outcome of what happens later in the next game with Solas...  <_<
