Welll.... I suppose it's a boon nonetheless, especially against, er... 'normal' Dreamers - but Dreamers like Solas? He himself said that he saw dwarves in the Fade when it so happened that some spirits observed them. And we do know that Solas is basically a Spirit Whisperer :D So there's no telling if he doesn't have spirits as... er, spies? Or they're sent somewhere to observe stuff, lol.

He is, but he'd have to know where to send them in the first place. Especially for a dwarf. He can't just tell a spirit "follow this person" when that person is on another plane of existence and doesn't regularly pop into the fade for a geotargetting check. Also, spirits tend to find people and events on the physical side of the veil due to the strong emotions that are being broadcast. So, you have two more problems. One, I'm not sure if, say, a spirit of Valour can get a bead on someone doing something other than being valorous. Two, spy meetings and having tea with contacts and whatever else may not project enough emotion for the spirit to follow, especially not from place to place with the veil in the way.

If he could get someone like Cole to do his bidding on our side of the veil, it might work, but I have a feeling spirits with the ability to make people forget/ignore them who've taken on a corporeal form and would actually do as he asks are gonna be few and far between. In modern days, with the veil and spirits as they are, Cole's pretty much one of a kind, and I don't think that even Spirit!Cole would spy on us for Solas.

One of my biggest personal fears is that Cole will stay involved in the goings on, on our side, and Solas will be able to remove his magic from the Amulet of the Unbound and then manipulate Cole against his will. Its one of the things I can see Solas doing if desperate enough circumstances occur, what with his "necessary sacrifices" mentality. I mean he'd have to be very desperate. But, in theory, he will be, if we unravel his plans, particularly if we haven't chosen to try to show him an alternative. And touching Cole would be one of the few things neither my Lavellan nor I would be able to forgive. It'd be a sign to me that he's too far gone. Only reason I accept his murdering his ally in TME was b/c of the specific context involved of Solas not having accepted the "modern people are people" thing himself and considering said ally to be a traitor to their people b/c of it. Solas doesn't have that kind of excuse anymore.

If they take this route and use the idea that dwarves can't easily be spied upon, then this is how I'd prefer they bring back Lace Harding in the future.

She would be the perfect choice to send to gather information in Tevinter for Leliana and/or the Inquisition (if it still exists), as it doesn't seem that Solas has many allies in the Imperium, let alone who might be capable of capturing or interrogating dwarves without attracting attention?

Well, I imagine he has a legion of elven slaves that might willingly work with him within the Imperium's borders. And elven soporoti. Not to mention non-elves he might have working for him for coin or w/e other bargains, if he's managed it. Considering the amount of slavers and other jerks they export regularly, I imagine its not hard to find a hive of scum and villainy from which to hire shady characters to do shady things for the right coin in the Imperium, even if you are an elf.

Here's the thing - we know Solas doesn't just have spirits in his service. Inquisition was most certainly infiltrated by non-spirit spies, lol. So I can imagine his spies determining, say, possible meeting locations for Solas to send his spirit friends to.

Besides - there aren't just spirits of Valor on the other side of the Fade. If there are as exotic spirits as Command or even Hunger, what can prevent spirit of Secrecy or Curiosity (I wonder what the purple spirits guarding his sanctuary were?)... or, you know, Fear or Deceit? Like Dirthamen's ravens? Basically any other spirit that is predominantly interested with things that people want to hide. And spies are certainly trained to not show emotions... not necessarily not to feel them.

As for Cole spying for Solas... meh, so far Cole seems to be determined to pull Solas "to the light side" - of course how the spirits helps people is different from what people may consider help, so I can see Cole inadvertently reveal to Solas things that perhaps Inquisition would prefer to keep secret from him.... or the other way around :P

As for using Cole... eh, debatable. So far Solas seems to be determined in pushing away people, rather than using them. With that said we don't know how desperate would become.

I wouldn't say however that he has "no excuse" anymore to do something terrible to Cole or whoever else - not if there are lives on other side at stake and *something* has to be done. We do know that someone is "hiding and hurting, trapped in a mirror" and hat Solas ran out of time to "save them" in dark Redcliffe future. And instead of using Inquisitor to perhaps try and hop in time himself in that future, both he and Leliana sacrificed... well... pretty much any chance they've had in that future, including any other person that survived, for Inky and Dorian to go back in time and revert Cory's machinations.

As for Solas pushing people away rather than use them, that's true so far and I'd like to believe that, but at the same time he does say "Like so many others I've used in one hopeless conflict after another" to the Inquisitor in Trespasser. I assume at least some of that is self-recrimination driven by the guilt of having been the guy who makes the tough calls, but still, he is saying he has got a precedent for using people who believe in or trust him.

And I do consider him to have "no excuse" at this point. He gets a pass for me regarding Felassan b/c Felassan saw something in modern people that Fen'Harel didn't, and couldn't, understand. Now he's seen it, too. So, that's no longer an excuse.

And he in particular would have no excuse for hurting Cole, who wants nothing but good for Solas and is basically an innocent. (And before anyone starts, yes, Cole's killed people, but he stopped when he truly understood what he was doing and that it was wrong. Without proper knowledge, you can't be held morally culpable, in my opinion.) Specifically, I won't forgive a "for the greater good" argument from Solas if he did so. I don't care how many people he's saving. Besides which, if he was really saving them, he could ask Cole and Cole would willingly help. That's Cole's nature and no manipulation would need to be involved. But this is all a hypothetical scenario anyway. I was just saying that hurting and using Cole like that would be my personal straw that breaks the camel's back regarding what I can forgive Solas for. People who hurt those they're responsible for, the people who trust them, or those that serve them loyally, are some of my most hated fictional characters. I hope very much that I can avoid pushing Solas into such a corner where he sees doing that as a viable option.

I think you are misinterpreting both that Cole/Solas banter and the future!Redcliffe dialogue you are mentioning, but we've been over that before and I don't feel like rehashing again.

As for the spirits as spies, yes if he gets a bead on his targets using physical spies first, I suppose he'd have a location to send his spirit spies to, so that's a possibility. They would have to stay on the Fade side of the veil to remain unnoticed, most likely, so there'd still have to be something in the meeting for them to resonate with so they could tune into it. A spirit of Secrecy would work, I suppose, if one actually exists. Secrecy isn't really an emotional state or aspect. Curiosity would also possibly work, too, I suppose, assuming they work like we think they do in various fanfiction.

I do wonder how much of a talent pool Solas would have to pick from now? According to Cole in Tresspasser, all the spirits are fleeing to the far corners of the Fade in fear of the veil dropping. I could see demons like fearlings hanging around and being accessible, though. And of course Solas doesn't make a distinction btwn spirits and demons. To be fair, I suppose there's not one really. In Thedas' context, "demon" is really just shorthand for "spirit who is hostile and wants to eat my face".

So I was watching X Men Apocalypse the other day and one character in the movie reminded me of Solas. Here he is:-

en_sabah_nur_apocalypse_x_men_apocalypse

Everything they've built will fall! And from the ashes of their world, we'll build a better one!

That sounds a lot like Solas at the end of Trespasser.

You are all my children, and you're lost because you follow blind leaders. No more false gods. I'm here now.

This is probably what he tells his new Elven recruits.

I've been called many things over many lifetimes: Ra, Krishna, Yahweh Solas, Fen'Harel, Dread Wolf . I was there to spark and fan the flame of man's awakening, to spin the wheel of civilization to create the Veil, to cause the fall of Elvhenan.

With a couple of adjustments, this line fits Solas as well.

Solas and Corypheus are both very much like En Sabah Nur / Apocalypse. Corypheus was more up in your face about it, Solas was more discreet about it.

Heck, Solas absorbed Flemeth/Mythal's power the same way En Sabah Nur/Apocalpyse does with his soul transfer ritual, which grants him the power of the host Mutant body in addition to the ones he already has.

Solas = Elven En Sabah Nur.

Now we know what Solas meant when he said he did not wish for Lavellan to see what he will become. He is going to become blue, wear a fancy blue Ancient Elven armor and try to destroy Thedas.

Considering Solas makes a point of saying he isn't a god (and neither were the others) and doesn't embrace that part of his rep, I think the comparison lacks a bit. They do share the "destroying the current world to make a better one" thing, though, obviously. But Soals isn't all "Bow down before me and worship!" like Corypheus and (I assume) Apocalypse are. His goal isn't about personal fulfillment, at least in that sense. He's driven by guilt more than hubris (not that its not present a bit, its just not what drives him), as well as a sense of duty.

Hi all! Just popped in for some romance advice. My elf is in Crestwood right now, but I'm thinking ahead to Adamant and Wicked Eyes. Is there any benefit to doing one before the other, specifically in regard to a Solas romance? I know on my Cullenmance I do Adamant first, but that's for my own headcanon reasons. Just wondering what other people here do different and why.

I did WEWH first simply b/c I knew Celene would be assassinated (thank you, future!Redcliffe), but I had no idea what Hawke's meeting was going to lead to. (It should be stated I hadn't touched Crestwood or actually met with Hawke there, yet, before I had already done WEWH. It was my first PT, so I didn't know Hawke's quest was multi-stepped. Plus, I wanted to go to a party. lol)

As far as the romance goes, you get the dance with Solas at Halamshiral in WEWH. In HTLA, there's no romance-specific content that I recall. With Solas' romance content as sparse as it is, maybe do Halamshiral first to get a scene, then adamant, then temple of Mythal which leads to the breakup? To spread the content out a bit?

Or maybe do Adamant first so you go through a near death experience and crazy fade journey together, then Halamshiral with the "heady aroma of court intrigue" line from Solas and the dance? Headcanon the party is a bit of a relief from the usual adventuring fare and the events of Adamant are why Solas is more willing to show PDA and flirt/dance with you? (Cus Halamshiral may be all cloak and dagger, but at least its not a Nightmare demon! :wizard: ) Then temple, of course.

Could go either way, imo.

Hello.  It doesn't really matter which one you do first, just make sure to take Solas with you everywhere.  I personally like to do Adamant first and get it over with. Sorry, Solas...but I hate the Fade. :-P

If I remember correctly, I believe you need to have accomplished All New, Faded for Her, before going the Winter Palace, if you want to get the dance with Solas. That will trigger the balcony scene at Skyhold, and further enforce the romance. I don't think the "fade tongue" is enough to get the dance, but I could be wrong. Might be worth looking up.

Of course, if you have already done ANFfH, than you definitely are good and ready to get your dance shoes on. B)

As for order, I have done it both ways. I still prefer doing Adamant first, for some reason, even when I have done In Hushed Whispers (which I have done more often than Champions of the Just). But that is just a personal preference. No wrong/right way. Can be RP'ed easily for either to be done first.

You know how Solas mentions his failed attempts at sharing knowledge with the Dalish?

I don't think the cold blooded guy we met in The Masked Empire would have even bothered. Maybe it is a sign that Felassan's last words did reach him, if only a little.

But of course, Solas' disappointment in the Dalish's stubborn atitude pushed him back into the "modern people aren't worth saving" mindset. Not that it caused that all on its own, but it certainly helped.

It's also possible he tried speaking to them in dreams.  He may have even tried it as Fen'Harel (and not some random wandering apostate).  If I recall correctly there are Dalish stories of Keepers meeting Fen'Harel in dreams.

Ooo. That is a very good point.

And it would also explain why they apparently rejected him so vehemently that he got bitter. Showing up to the first dalish mage he came across in his spirit wolf form is a heck of a way to find out about his reputation.

I am now imagining him showing up in a dream as a six-eyed giant wolf, some First freaking the hell out, and he thinks "Oh, maybe its cus I look like a giant wolf?", and he transforms to look like an elf, and there's like a moment of calm, and then he's all "Peace, da'len. I am Fen'harel and--" and then the freaking out restarts, this time with lightning. lol
