Do any of you wonder whether the dev note about Flemeth and Solas was actually planted as a red herring because BioWare knows their fans will dig through EVERYTHING to find out what they can about what might happen in future games?

I've wondered this ever since I learned about it. Do you think they are that devious?  ^-^

Nah, they're put there for the people making the game, as a reference, and 99% of players are never going to know about, or see any of those kinds of notes. A good chunk of players don't even exhaust dialogue options, use certain characters or even finish the game. It takes a certain type of fan to dig that deep and search so obsessively for clues (which is not a dig, because I am one of those fans!).

I do think that the producers and lead writer are careful about who does and doesn't get access to the "Deep Lore", but anything within those unrevealed parts of the story are also subject to change and alteration, depending on the vagaries of the production process. Like how the whole "Temple of Mythal" segment got cut from the cancelled DA2 Exalted March expansion and pasted onto to the end of DA: I. So when David Gaider says to take whatever you datamine from the dev notes with a grain of salt, it's because he's been part of the behind the scenes process. It's messy. Things get changed around, projects cancelled, storylines and characters taken out, rewritten, reconfigured, expanded on, cut and saved for other projects or DLC.

The only things that the datamined bits really tell you is that Solas is committed to his goals, and that Flemeth/Mythal is not gotten rid of so easily, both things which I think can be extrapolated from the stinger, and were expanded upon, especially on Solas' part in Trespasser.

^ Fair assessment, thanks. Like you, I'm one of the people who exhausts all possible dialogue options, uses all characters, and finishes Dragon Age games, but I don't go poking around in the code.   :)

One thing is certainly in my mind... mage Lavellan is more adequate for the Inquisitor's role than the other Dalish classes.

It is.a political job and she is more likely to have ever picked up a book than those meat head hunters.

The Swedish king Charles XI had severe dyslexia and thus barely touched a book during his youth. He grew up to be one of the best kings Sweden ever had by creating one of the best trained armies in the world, creating a meritocracy that put ability over birth, and working continuously to give our country 18 years of peace until his premature death (unprecedented for a country that had been constantly at war the past 100 years).

So I don't think much of the sentiment that you have to be well-read to be a good leader. Just saying  ;)

Hunters are gonna be the first point of contact with various traders and outsiders for Clan Lavellan and they could easily end up very diplomatic as a result, if the player wants. They also likely know how to read people and situations. Both of which would be very useful for politics. And as a hunter, they've likely been part of an organized force before, be it for a hunt, scouting, or defense of the clan, and they can use that experience when leading field missions and making decisions as Inquisitor.

And I don't think being a First or not being a First actually ties in to whether you've ever picked up a book or not, much less whether that book was particularly useful. (Or even written in common. If you can only read elven, that still limits you outside the clan.) Whether someone is well read in the clan would be determined by personal interest and the availability of the reading material.

So I don't think much of the sentiment that you have to be well-read to be a good leader. Just saying   ;)

Also this. ^

Honestly, I wonder where you even come up with these "questions" and sentiments, sometimes, Qun00.

Actually the "meat head hunters" would likely be more qualified. Knowing how to read is irrelevant to abilities as a spy here or abilities in politics. The hunters are trained to be silent, to observe everything, knows various tactics, and as someone else mentioned are probably the main group that deals in trading with humans and other clans when necessary. I doubt they send their valuable mages to do that sort of thing. So chances are a hunter would have more experience dealing with outsiders and in combat situations.

Isn't the whole discussion about which class is more suited kind of irrelevant really? I mean, the Keeper sent the person she considered to be the most suited to spy and interact with other people at the conclave, and since our PC was chosen that would mean s/he was the considered the best wo/man for the job regardless of their previous role in the clan.

It's not the classes that determine the personality or, to some extent, the abilities of our PC - we as players do that.

I do hope that I will find the warriors more fun to play the next game though, I would love to have a warrior for my first (always canon) playthrough. :)

There really are arguments for both sides (mage/hunter).  I don't think there's really a "best" choice regarding class in this situation.

As for the warriors ... I think the most "fun" game out of the three DA games to play warriors in was actually DA2.  Mostly because it was just hilarious to watch people explode into pieces when playing a 2h warrior.  In DAI I found it much too frustrating to be running after mobs (I'm looking at you Despair demon and wisps!) to play a melee class.  I did play a melee rogue and a 2h warrior, a full playthrough for each one.  I just couldn't face doing another warrior even though I wanted to try the other warrior specs.

Agreed. Firsts have their own strengths and nothing says they don't also know how to deal with outsiders. Although they aren't likely the first point of contact usually, they might be the primary negotiator once they're in the camp. Or apprentice negotiator, watching Deshanna. So Firsts can be just as capable as hunters in that. Also, they may have been involved in clan excursions, too, for various reasons (its dangerous and the hunters may need healing, they needed to practice their spells in combat, etc.), so they can have that experience. Along with various headcanons on backstory and personality you can make, all three classes can work as Inquisitor Lavellan.

Warrior is my canon (and first) DAO playthrough. She was a dwarf, 2H Berserker/Champion. I'm hoping to play another warrior in Tevinter, at the moment, though maybe I'll actually go Templar for once, if that's available as a spec. And I'm thinking dwarf again. Magic resistance and magic nullification in the land of mages? Yes, please.

DA2 made me love 2h warriors. Controlling Fenris was so much fun. I was looking forward to 2h Warr game in Dai. Now I'm left with Da2's shadow T_T

Ok this rant/question is for all solas fans, but more directed at the "Plot Overlords aka the writers. "(meant as a joke, not trying to be offensive)

(oh and for those that don't  know anything about solas, SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Ok This is what I dont get, we know that Solas's fear is dying alone (it's on his tombstone in the fade). BUT! he doesn't want you to join him in his plot to tear down the veil cuz "there is only death on this journey"......Me: but you plan on destroying this world that will no doubt kill me.....O.o....soooo if we are both going to die (supposedly) because of this big plan of yours, why would it matter if I was with you or not.....Just wondering.

Yes I know they did his romance at the last second, if I am remembering that correctly. I just really wanted to get everyone's opinion and possibly something from the writers. Oh and if its already been addressed please give me the link, Thank you.

Three possibilities to me:

1) He doesn't want to actually watch you die, if he can help it.

2) The death on his journey that he speaks of doesn't just mean his own. It might mean he has a lot of killing ahead of him, too, that he will do b/c he thinks its necessary, but he doesn't want you to be involved in. Also ties into the line, "I would not have you see what I become." Enter some of our worries about how violence/death is the surest way of thinning the veil and questions about why he's apparently drawing so many elves to him in the epilogue slides. Are they an army? Are they a potential blood sacrifice? Both?

3) He means just his path will kill him when he says "there is only death on this journey", but perhaps the death on his journey won't be painless and sudden, like the death from the veil drop chaos will theoretically be. So, its a worse death and he would spare you that.

This is what PW himself has said, when asked about it in Twitter (the question is encrypted in rot13 for spoiler reasons and it says "So I'm assuming the real reason we can't follow Solas will be revealed later? Not asking for spoilers, just wondering. :)" )

Spoiler

I have a feeling that his plan includes more that he's telling us. I'm not against the theory that after he tears down the veil he will attempt to turn back time, maybe before the time Mythal was murdered, so everyone of current time, including Lavellan, will seize to exist, so what's the point in taking her with him? Also, he might (still) be... bound to Mythal's will somehow, either through a geas, guilt, obligation, vengeance or previous close relationship (friendly, familial, romantic or as her guardian/champion) and she doesn't want any distractions to influence him (and that's why he seems to subconsciously be asking the Inquisitor to save him from himself). Or maybe they plan to use the Inquisitor as an advisor for next game. I know a lot of people disagree with these theories, but the jury is still out.

Now let's discuss what can be counterintuitive and weird, yet make sense to Patrick Weekes. ;)
