I didn't say that it's specifically magic - I was merely making an analogy. There's obviously something to Qunari skin that makes them be able to use vitaar poisonous to other... you know - like lactose intolerance. Or perhaps it's like Iron Bull's resistance to poison - it's mostly trained.

No, the codex specifically says it's magical and as it was a mage doing the testing I'm going to assume it's correct.

Her being a priest isn't what really matters - I mentioned it because the vitaar is a symptom of the Qunari's beach-babe-bondage porn style, which the Viddisala's outfit similarly is styled after.

...Not really sure whats' wrong about "beach-babe-bondage" style in a culture that is more resistant to damage and living in a very hot place?

Whether it's "porn" is part of personal, er, tastes? I suppose, though isn't necessarily looked upon like that in a culture that uses certain aesthetic. I mean... I'd link come cultural clothing from many indigenous cultures from our world, but I'm afraid I'd get a warning point ...

I beg to differ about it looking as dumb as the Chantry's hats. I mean yeah, the Chantry's hats look pretty dumb, but could you imagine having that giant book stuck on your shoulder all day? How does she not fall over? Or get major shoulder aches? And there's way no it serves any practical purpose because of how many knots you'd have to untie just to open it up or stick it back on.

It was just... a really bizarre design choice to me, and every time I saw it I was like "Man, it is way harder than it should be to take you seriously." Her almost-as-equally-awful looking headpiece didn't help matters.

Viddasala is a Qunari. They are generally far stronger than humans. Plus they might as well look at the whole 'wow, my arm hurts from heavy-a** book' like some Christian sects look at self-flagellation. Or, you know, how Qunari look at Sareebas and their 'sacrifice'.

And before we go in a direction of "but Qunari are very practical people"... well... yes and no. Qunari are indeed practical, especially when it comes to using tools and telling other countries what they want to hear, but then there's an extreme amount of insane troll logic used internally to try and reconcile some bizarre things in Qunari's mind. Like the whole 'woman can't be warriors so any woman who fights is not a woman'.

And in fact the whole 'Qunari are running half-naked around' has actually been addressed in game:

Dorian: I will never understand why Qunari warriors spend half their time running around bare-chested.
Iron Bull: Thought you'd appreciate that.
Dorian: It's stupid. They should wear armor.
Iron Bull: You see a member of the Beresaad in full armor, you run, because it's war.
Dorian: They should wear armor all the time!
Iron Bull: Then they'd have to invade everyone. You're so bloodthirsty.
Dorian: (Growls.)\

So yeah, like almost everywhere, there are areas where Qunari culture trumps logic or common sense. That's really all there to it, it would seem.

Well then it's a wonder if it's perhaps something that has to do with lyrium? I wouldn't be surprised by it. And yes, Qunari hate magic, but they'll use it if it means achieveing their goals. This is why Viddi and her people study eluvians, have a camp in Vir Dirthara and feed their Sareebas insane amounts of lyrium, among other things.

And not just Qunari are guilty of that - the Chantry hates blood magic, yet they use blood magic rituals to create phylacteries :P

Actually I think the Chantry likes to get around the whole phylactery thing by saying "B-b-but the blood is just a component!" instead of actually using the blood to power the phylactery.  That's an incredibly fine line to tread and personally I think it goes over the line into straight hypocrisy on the Chantry's part.

Well, it's basically what our favorite hobo apostate said - those 'who want victory will find some reason their cause merits exception' and will frequently use things, devices or techniques they sneer at or openly and publicly reject...

I... I think you're trying to argue this from a standpoint of logic, when I'm trying to argue from a standpoint of design and aesthetics. It doesn't matter how much sense it does or does not make. What matters is that it looks ridiculous.

I don't think I said anything about how it doesn't make sense for the Qunari to dress like they do. Only that some of the designs they have look awful.

(Also the bondage comment was me being facetious, so, I wouldn't take that literally.)

I've played too many Korean MMOs lately.  Is she wearing high heels?  No?  Good!  Is she wearing a skirt that barely covers her butt?  No?  Great!  Is she wearing a bustier she'd spill out of if she took a shallow breath?  No?  Alright, three out of three, this design is awesome!

At this point I just look for the most utterly ridiculous outfit I can find and have my character wear that for the lulz.  It's one of the reasons I really appreciate the DAI armors that fully cover the body.  Even the qunari armors that came with the DLC were fine to me lol.

So yeah, like almost everywhere, there are areas where Qunari culture trumps logic or common sense. That's really all there to it, it would seem.

Although if you think about their primary adversary being Tevinter mages, the Qunari might consider that wearing armour is too heavy and cumbersome to be worth it, because unlike Templars they cannot negate magical attacks whatsoever, so they know that if they get hit with a fireball they could be roasted alive.

Wearing little armour would allow them to be more quick on their feet, so they can avoid being hit by spells and dodge enemy attacks, rather than try to withstand them. Bull comments that similar to Templars, the Qunari train their soldiers to angle their shields to deflect magical (and chemical) attacks away from them.

So avoiding being hit might be the main goal, although they obviously still train to take a hit as well. The Qunari are supposedly built sturdier than most of the other races in Thedas (Adan comments to Adaar that "you oxmen are tough like old leather"), so they might forego armour for speed and hope their natural resilience makes up the difference?
