I think its basically a Titan immuno-response to the foreign invasion of the ancient elves into its body, originally. And its magical cus Titans are magical.
This idea basically resulted b/c of how the whole broodmother thing (both how they're made and how they become darkspawn factories) strongly reminds me of viral reproduction. And it explains to me why the darkspawn seemingly avoid titans. It'd be friendly fire, so to speak.
I don't exactly have a super fleshed out theory beyond that. Just be my biology minor rearing its head. lol
But what about the Thaig in DA2? I guess it was never confirmed as a Titan, but it seems likely.

Solas the solitary painter painting solitarily. By Aimo. ![]()
Sexy concept!Solas. Oooh!
Male Lavellan wears plaidweave armor.
With Solas, Cass(?), and Varric.
Some lovely sketches of Fenris, Cullen, Trevelyan, Solas, and Lavellan.
I think the arrival of Fen'Harel was planned in early dragon age development. However things like appearance, name (solas) and many other things were planned much later.
And some more art

Hard to say when they were planned, though Patrick Weekes said in BioFan interview that after he joined the writing team they've already had the name picked for Solas for a while then. If I recall it literally translates to "to stand tall" rather than just straightforward "pride".
What ARE the theories on that, by the way? i tend to lean towards "The Blight is a rot born from murdered Titans." but I'm interested in what other ideas there are.
Blight is a twisted form of blood magic would be another theory. Since blood magic has a tendency to interfere with a mage's ability to connect with the Fade, it would be a viable assumption that having something real (like blood magic/warped form aka Blight) present within the Fade (place of Imagination) would be a huge poop shoot for the world.

I'd say that it's something connected to primordial forces, in some way at last. Hard to say whether it has anything to do with blood magic or Titans, though it can be linked - it's obviously linked in some ways with Titans...
Cole mentions something about "old dreams" and Solas preventing them from waking by 'breaking the dreams'. So there seems to be connection to the Fade as well.

Quite a few various ones. I don't have any specifics in the theory I like other than "the Evanuris had something to do with it". There just isn't enough information to pin it down. I really hope at the end of the series all will become clear. I rather doubt it though.

I tend to connect this bit here to the Whispers in Red Lyrium you get in the Fade during Adamant which personally I think has to do with the Evanuris. Solas trapped the Evanuris forever (so he says). It would probably be difficult to keep them trapped if they were actively trying to get free what with how powerful they are. So they're most likely incapacitated in some way (asleep perhaps?). I'd also say that the Evanuris could qualify as being referred to as "old dreams". And Solas did sunder the world and the Fade which could be considered "breaking the dreams". These are all my own little pet theories though which means they'll probably turn out to be wrong.
I hardly would think that Solas' character was even conceived back in 2009, but it's just too amusing that this shield was called FADE Wall and had Fen'harel's image on it.
One Gaider interview or the other suggested that all of it was planned from the very first game. Probably went through some changes by now, of course. But they didn't get to DAI and say, "Hey, let's take that one ancient elf god guy and..."

TBH I'm starting to think that the Whiispers belong to Titans - corrupted ones, more specifically. We don't really know what specifically Solas has done to the Evanuris, but the lore claims that he 'trapped them in the Fade'. So they're likely in the land of dreams... so why would they say "we have found dreams again"? And we do know that Titans are 'sundered', 'crippled' and 'polluted' and that Evanuris are likely responsible from cutting the away from the Fade and making them forget how to wake up...

But do Titans dream? Dwarves can't unless there are extraordinary circumstances involved. And game lore may say Solas trapped them in the Fade but in game lore is not always accurate. Also, they may be trapped in a section of the Fade but unable to access the rest of it - which would make sense because if they were simply in the Fade then why do no dreamers see them? You'd think they'd be talking to the elves and trying to get free if they were able to do so. Also how do we know that the Titans are sundered, crippled and polluted? Unless that's another World of Thedas Vol 2 thing (I read Vol 1). Also how do we know there are any corrupted Titans? From in game we specifically know of one Titan (from Descent). I could be forgetting things though. It's possible ... my mind is a rusty, crumbly steel trap after all.

We do know that Titans' blood, and therefore Titans are intrinsically connected to the Fade. And we know that the dwarves were in some way severed from the Titans, while Titans themselves were 'sundered'. Cole, for example, leaves us with this gem when approached by dwarven Inquisitor - "No dreams with the cord cut. You sell it.”
Another one is this (Trespasser):
"They made bodies from the earth, and the earth was afraid. It fought back, but they made it forget."
"Their ancient shapers were mountains drawn of all their wills, walking their memories into valleys of the world".
I also recall him sayings something about ancient hurt deep in Trespasser Deep Roads, which he cannot help and something else about forgetting how to wake up, but I can't find the quote ![]()

That's pretty cool... However, I don't know for sure that it means Morrigan had to be there with Solas and Flemeth. Remember that Flemeth pushes some magical blue energy through the Eluvian just before Solas arrives?
I'm imagining that the Morrigan lines would follow a fade out or flash to wherever she is, and a cut scene showing her receiving the blue energy. Morrigan reacts badly to this piece of her mother's magic, maybe also realizing that her mother is gone/something is wrong. Then she says "What have you done?" directed at Flemeth, not Solas. Morrigan has a history of assuming the worst about Flemeth's intentions towards her, after all.
Hey nerds.
Tell me something happy, or show me some fluffy art or something.

It's from the original ending where Trespasser was part of the main game. The epilogue would've played out differently and both Morrigan and the Inquisitor would've been present.

The Dread Wolf occasionally sets his coat tails on fire when casting magic, all the while insisting he has everything completely under control.
^its something that has always amused me. Did it work?
