Does Solas just want to release the spirits from the fade? Are the spirits the ones he's trying to help?

Cole actually says in some flavor dialogue that the spirits are "fleeing to the far corners of the Fade" in preparation for what's coming. So I don't think they feel particularly comfortable with Solas' plans, either. Its a logical assumption that spirits who will be exposed to a veil-less Thedas "burning in raw chaos" will likely be made into demons from the overwhelming confusion and aforementioned chaos.

Plus or minus whatever, the Dalish are, quite literally, a fringe group.  And one that's dying out.  They've held onto what remains of Elvhen culture, which is quite noble.  But too many of them are stuck in the past.  Something Solas seems to be even more guilty of, given his plans.  They're trying to rebuild a world that never actually existed rather than trying to better the one they live in now.

City elves, however are developing their own cultures.  Which are a fusion of what Elvhen ways they half-remember and modern human ways.  Heck most of them don't even think of themselves as "elves" or "the People"  They are Orlesian elves, Ferelden elves, Tevinter elves, and so on.  If the elves got a third homeland, would they even be able to come together in a cohesive group again?

Humans are here to stay.  Andrastrianism, for better or for worse, is here to stay.  And for better or worse, many elves follow it in one stripe or another.   The same could be said for the Qun, though that's likely to come into conflict with the rest of Thedas in the near future.

What needs to be done is for humans to start treating elves like people rather than "knife ears" Both sides need to accept each other and let the past go.  Tying to tear down the Chantry isn't exactly the way to do that.

Yeah, personally I think the story Bioware is trying to tell is the world and societies in it should just try and take what's best from past and present and just... move on, instead of lingering in either the past or upholding current status quo.

Therein lies the problem, as I believe Ghost Gal has explained countless times. Humans are never forced to "move on" from their terrible religion and terrible racism and terrible Circle.

Ah, yes. Forgive me, but I'm not sure who else is being consistently denied any kind of homeland, positive representation of their beliefs, and a lack of ****** stupid attempted retcons.

Do you not observe the real world? At all? In the real world, there are people who've been displaced from their homelands and in their impoverished, displaced state, have in turn acted in less-than-positive ways, which further seals racism against them, in a never-ending spiral of conflict. I'm not gonna names names, but it saddens me no one realizes the accuracy. Yes, it's simplified, but at the end of the day the result is the same.

Then tell me why Alistair can't marry a dwarf noble.

Because the world of Thedas isn't as black-and-white to offer only utter discrimination or absolute acceptance?

The Qun's principles make it as incompatible with the rest of life in Thedas as an archdemon.

Yes, and those cultures/beliefs deserve nothing less than utter eradication.

OK well whether you believe they deserve to be eradicated or not doesn't bear on whether they are poorly written. I think that it's well-written if it triggers an intense opinion.

The lack of absolute acceptance is discrimination enough.

What about in Thedas? Any fiction draws parallels to patterns we know in reality. That's how writing elicits emotion and reaction, by nature. If it went off on some unfamiliar pattern that either doesn't tend to happen in reality, or isn't a contentious or commonly observed pattern, it would not be effective. This applies to how countries interact with each other in Thedas. Or how people interact with each other.

I believe you've moved onto a completely different subject; I was addressing the inequality of elven plot representation.

Yeah, and Solas takes "living in the past" to it's...logical? extreme

Being forbidden from marriage is a pretty strong example of discrimination.

Interesting.  Where does he say that?

It's one of the comments he gives after you've been through the eluvians once.

"The spirits have fled. Flying. Fluttering. Fast to the farthest Fade. They're afraid of the Veil tearing again."

I'm working on it. No need to do anything premature, the game is far from out yet. I continue to hold out hope for it to not betray us.

This is absurd. There's no betrayal, and the worst thing you can do is... return the game? Write an angry rant on the BSN? Okay, go ahead? Are you going to feel equally betrayed if we go to Tevinter and blood magic is portrayed in a less-than-positive light, or we see firsthand that Bhelen's throwing the casteless at the darkspawn (which he does)?

The faith of slavers and mass murderers forced upon them. The only mitigating circumstance is Leliana's reforms, and even then, the institutional bigotry towards members of other faiths is unacceptable.

You are DENYING THEIR AUTONOMY by saying they can't choose their own religion because it's also the religion of their oppressors. You are trying to make choices for elves instead of leaving the choice up to them. They can believe whatever the crap they want. It's their belief, not a political statement.

This is that. You don't understand that the elves are allegorical. You're just looking at the various bad things happening to them without realizing the patterns they reflect.

What Lynroy said. Specifically, he says it when you talk to him outside the tavern. As opposed to it being a banter at a location with him in group, I mean.

Then we should have the chance to fix this. I can accept no other alternate outcome, and I would hope to rally those who agree with me. The story should not end in tragedy.

We likely will be able to. In the last game. This is not the last game. The current story of Thedas is not over, yet, and likely won't be for at least two more games, if they stick to the rumored, original "5 game plan".

WTH? Of course they are. The Circle was hardly ever portrayed as anything good, even it it isn't a cartoonishly evil as well. Their oppression of elves, or in fact treatment of anyone who isn't just your regular human - never portrayed as good. Their expansionist, bellicose ways? Hardly ever portrayed as good. Their self-assurance that the world is how they believe it is? It keeps being undermined with practically every title!

Banal nadas.

The proof, as my unpleasant ex-boss said, will be in the pudding. If they're willing to live alongside the Dalish and not freak out about mages, that'll be enough.

I do realize it, and don't like what I see.

All well and good. Once we see those things fail, permanently. The Circle was... not quite handled correctly, but it could have been worse.
