PW says the caffeine keeps him up, but c'mon there is herbal tea, you gotta see the light Solas. :P

Patrick Weekes consumes chocolate covered espresso beans by the bagful when he's writing. Maybe Solas would enjoy being awake more if he were introduced to them. Yum!

I think Solas is an inspiration of the Egyptian god Set, because of what he did to the Evanuris to trick them into the Fade and seal them into it. And his hell bent on tearing down the veil, and bring upon the chaos of Thedas which he symbolizes Set is also the God of Chaos.

Henk te Velde, in The Egyptian God Seth as a Trickster, notes that the word khenenu khnnnwwSet Animal determinativeforce determinative (confusion, turmoil) uses the Set Animal hieroglyph. He says that this word signifies that which is the opposite of ma'at, and as such, Set is a god of confusion. In the Book of the Dead, Set himself claims to be, "the originator of confusion who thunders in the horizon of heaven".

I think he's more like Loki than Set.

Elk, ha. That is a Halla.

I am looking at a pile of laundry I am not doing.

My cat is curled up in my cat bed.

My notes on a new script are late. Gotta get back to it...

Yeah but the Egyptian pantheon is older than Norse Mythology and they're the same thing.

No, they are not. There are similarities absolutely but the two mythologies are not the same thing.

No, not really. isn't Loki the god of Mischief? Although I do know he's a mayhem god, comparing Loki to Set is unfair on Loki though; he's not full on evil though, even in Norse mythology. So yeah, not really a good compassion on them; Loki and Athena have more in common than Loki and Set do.

I'm curious to hear you elaborate on this lunacy, I admit.

They're not the same thing. And I don't see how being older means Solas was inspired by an egyptian God instead of a Nordic one.

The devs did so much cherry-picking when they created the various background mythologies for this game, I honestly wouldn't put any of the pantheons as analogous  to real world mythological figures, except in the broadest, most cartoonish way.

You might've not mean that, but the way you written your post lead to that statement.

Well I've done a little digging of the comparison of the Egyptian pantheon from Egypt, & how it correlates to Elven Gods of Arlathan. And Egypt is widely know to be one of the most advanced civilizations of the Ancient world, just like Arlathan is the most advanced civilizations of all Thedas.

I wouldn't compare them to Egyptians Gods, but I would compare the Evanuarius to the Roman Gods though.

Technically the Greeks learned math, architecture from Egypt and plagiarized the Egyptian Gods.

What? No. Who told you that the Greeks copied off of the Egyptians in terms of gods? Because that's not factual.

Not true. The qunari are technologically the most advanced civilization in thedas.

Technically the Greeks learned math, architecture from Egypt and plagiarized the Egyptian Gods.

Romans learnt those from Greeks and Egypts and became more advanced.
Also, why do you think the greek gods were a plagiarized version of the egyptian gods? There's a lot of differences between the two pantheons.

I believe this is my cue to link the video that got me onto the "there are real parallels to Norse mythology, beyond 'trickster god'" train:

(highlights include a hero getting his arm chewed off by a great wolf, the wolf swallowing the sun only for the sun's daughter to take over, and, of course, the wolf playing a big role in the Norse apocalypse)

I can write a book detailing the differences between the two - the only thing they have in common is that they've got a great deal of gods/

There are themes that occur and reoccur in several different mythologies across the world, even some that are greatly separated both in time and space. I think the only clear conclusion we can draw from this is that certain things have always been important for humans and made good story-material. Oh, and that we are generally more unoriginal than we like to think  :P

Heh, Prometheus didn't decide later on to start an Apocalypse/Ragnarok, which might happen depending on how is plan will work.

Does that mean DA4 will end with Solas chained up to a giant rock and every day an eagle comes to eat his liver which grows back that night?
