What have I missed?? Is Blackwall the final LI??

Blackwall is available to females of all races and Cullen is gated against Dwarves and Qunari.

The other odd guy, as most people would think he's odd only after talking with him, I guess. And Cole...well, he's the first that comes to mind, when you mention the odd man.

 

Still, I'm worried about Solas being 'interesting' romance. In general it's a good thing, but who knows with BioWare. My canon Shepard was with Thane, so I'm trying hard not to like any character too much, before I learn how the game ends and what awaits them.

 

Solas might do something terrible or just die as well as any other LI. Hopefully not!

Oh my! I hadn't anticipated him being an option! I suppose I'll have to come up with a character for him.

I want to play so many elves....maybe I'll make a qunari for him :V

Oh wow. Wasn't expecting that at all. R.I.P Cullenmancing Qunari playthrough. ;_; Ah well, she'll probably fit with either Blackwall or Bull. Hoping Blackwall's romance isn't as tragic as I think it might be.

 

Also, re: "Limited in scope".

 

They are limited in scope only in that they are restricted to certain races. Hence the "otherwise, they are the equal of the other romances."

 

The fact that Solas's romance arc was added later makes me rather hopeful. My favourite romance ever (Garrus) wasn't given a romance arc until after all of his friendship stuff was written in the first ME game, and that turned out beautifully. Given that his whole romance word budget is also just focused on a single kind of inquisitor, I think he might actually have more romance content than some of the other options.

Wow. Just found out. I have to say, first off, a big thank you to Mike for the post (I know he likely won't read this here, but I'm a little scared to venture out at the moment... That's saying a lot coming from me. I love me some debate.). Everything's out and we can quit the speculation game, which had frankly reached near-toxic levels.

Also, shocked that Blackwall was the core straight female romance. Shocked he's a romance at all to be honest. And, as a feminist, a bit impressed at the implications of Vivienne not being romanceable (at least the way I interpret it). Just because a woman is beautiful, confident, and image-conscious, does not automatically mean she's looking for love. She's not about impressing anyone, at least not for that reason. She is who she is for her own sake. Also, somewhat more intrigued by Blackwall's romance as it is in fact a 'main' one (those new screens of his face do help).

But... The original two options I as a straight female had were a (straight) Grey Warden warrior with a strong sense of duty and a sense of humor, and a (bisexual) promiscuous mercenary who enjoys violence and might betray us? Erm, sound a little familiar anyone? (Orientations in parentheses because I don't care, just pointing out similarity.)

That said, I am ecstatic (even if I feel a bit selfish, and a bit guilty for feeling so) for the extra development time allowing Cullen and Solas to be love interests. They were, and still are, the only two I was REALLY interested in that didn't wind up gated against my own gender. (Dorian and to a lesser extent Cass, were the only others I was excited at the prospect of, but I have little interest in playing gay men, and zero interest in playing straight ones). So I understand the disappointment. I was rooting for equal choices, and would have loved for that to have been the case. I feel nothing but sympathy for those who didn't get what they wanted, and who are now feeling slighted as a demographic, truly. And while I understand, and even support , the need to vent, as long as it's done here on the forums and doesn't disrespect anyone - harassing or insulting the devs is never okay. And, as I'm sure there will be those who say if the options weren't equal they shouldn't be there at all - well, as a straight woman who has also gotten the shaft by the industry as a whole, who would have been hugely let down by my options had these extras not been added, I can't help but bristle at that a bit. It reeks of, if I can't have it no one should - and suggests that something that benefits no one is better than something that benefits a group, that, until now in this one instance, has rarely benefitted over straight men when it comes to fair representation and equal (or often, any) options, for in-game romances.

So yeah, there are my thoughts, in a rather overly large nutshell. Sorry it was so long, and maybe not quite on topic, but this seemed the safest place to put this. I'm really excited to see what the Solas romance, so interesting Patrick felt like he wanted to add it to the game when he could have just been satisfied with the amazing character he already wrote, is going to be like!

I have this image in my head of Lavellan sleeping in her bed in skyhold, having a bad fade related dream. Solas gently wipes her brow with his hand, and watches over her throughout the night. She wakes up finding him asleep in her chair, then drapes the blankets over him and cuddles up in his lap. Queue smile from Solas.

I'm such a sop. I know my inquisitor would carry a plushie solas everywhere if she could. Another image of her being distraught after it getting caught in dragon fire.

Totally agree that we should message him, perhaps with the sentiment that it's from the whole thread. I think they've gotten enough negativity. We're all pleased as punch that we got the chance to have a Solas romance!

Nah, still playing a male pansexual elf.     At least I know now that he can romance Cassandra and my party (including Solas) is secure.  (Now I just have to worry about finding Cole...)

 

But the idea of a female elf having so much of the Inquisition after her is amusing me.  I know people like to complain about everyone wanting in Hawke's pants, but I never had that problem.  My canon recap Warden that I've been playing with lately has been hilarious though, because he's running around with Alistair, Morrigan, and Zevran in the party, and all of them are spouting romance stuff at him due to high approval wonkyness.    And for the first time I experienced Leliana trying *repeatedly* to hook up with a very gay Warden.  Made Anders look shy...  So yeah, I'm laughing despite myself.

 

I do have some disappointment still (always gonna think about what could have been), but at the same time I'm still glad Solas is romanceable at all.  Cullen was always at the bottom of the list for me, but I'm really surprised to find he was in the same addition basket as Solas.  I really thought he was one of the original mains.  I have some disappointment that Vivienne isn't a romance, but not entirely surprising for once.  Blackwall has become a real wildcard, which has made me more interested in what's going to happen with him...

 

Dwarves and Qunari seem to have it rough depending on who the players are interested in...  Luckily I was already looking at Sera and Dorian for my respective Lady and Dude Qunari, so at least I have no big worries there.  Blackwall may make a good fit for a female dwarf...

 

Eh, sorry for all the random romance ramble.  Solas still has my lady elf in the second playthrough.

I just finally picked my jaw up off the floor. And closed the romance 4.0 thread I was idly browsing. Not looking out of this thread for awhile. Wow.
