I formed the impression that the Tuatha weren't actually gods themselves since in many of the tales, they appear to appeal to higher powers for assistance   The hero Nuada seems a sort of demi-god in that he becomes the embodiment of the Sun God when in battle frenzy, but it seems to me that they are a magical race that ruled over Ireland rather than gods themselves.    Then again, look at the Evanuris.   According to Solas they are not gods but simply very powerful mages from among the people, yet they came to be remembered as gods.    The author of the book I am referencing on the Tuatha says in his introduction that it is sometimes difficult to tell whether the Tuatha were meant to be men, demons or gods, further complicated by the fact that the tales were largely handed down by oral tradition.

Another interesting aspect in the book I am using is that Nuada dreams of an earlier era when "the sky was in the keeping of Winged Warriors of the Dawn and the earth was ruled by beautiful bronze dragons who dwelt in palaces towering up into purple skies".    So again there is this similarity with the mythology in Thedas, when according to Yavana dragons once ruled the skies and down on the ground at least one of the god kings of the elves could transform into a dragon.

Yeah, Irish myth is pretty hard to navigate. The written accounts we have are sometimes contradictory, and as I recall, almost all of them were written after Ireland was evangelized, so like with Norse myth, a lot of what we know are distorted retellings made to fit Christian theology. So I don't know the context (And like I said, still no formal education.), but the swearing to higher powers might have just been an attempt for the monks who recorded all this to tie Irish myth into the Bible and further diminish any notion that these beings were considered gods.

But it can be difficult to figure out how the religion was actually practiced in it's original form - and maybe it's a little silly to split hairs like that, since it's basically saying that this imaginary series of events is more valid than that other imaginary series of events because the first one's older and more original.

I think there was a tweet about it being something the concept artist put in to their picture and it was kept as visual foreshadowing? But for in the lore, we're not told of the significance of it in any source material I'm aware of.

God, it's almost like he wanted the Inquisitor to figure it out. "Hello Inquisitor, how do you like my wolf jawbone? The one that I am wearing? On full display? For no discernible reason?"

"Ah yes Inquisitor, look at this mural I painted. This mural full of wolves. The wolf mural. Look at it."

"I'm so happy you've paid tribute to the Dalish wolf god, Inquisitor. The Dalish god of wolves. That god. The one I do not follow and have absolutely no relation to. I heard he was very smart, you know. I also heard he had pretty eyes and a great ass."

Poor Inquisitor probably thought he was just a huge dog person.

That actually started even earlier - back when British Isles were conquered by Romans. Lugh Lamfhada was totally at one point mixed with Apollo, for example.

Basically, when Romans conquered nations, their usual shtick was to incorporate or tie somehow local religion with theirs. Aside from Roman religion being syncretic that way, it allowed conquered nations stick to their beliefs, only to slowly transition to theirs. Plus, it kept religious tensions at minimum - less reasons for local populace to riot.

Christians in fact did a lot of that as well early on (think that it's a coincidence that St. Brigid of Kildare, one of patron saints of of Ireland, bears the name of goddess Brigid and so on? A lot of Catholic saints are basically either pagan gods in disguise or syncretic amalgams of them and actual historic figures)... which shouldn't be surprising to anyone, given that Christianity in shape we know now was basically a Roman invention, courtesy of Constantine the Great.

God, it's almost like he wanted the Inquisitor to figure it out. "Hello Inquisitor, how do you like my wolf jawbone? The one that I am wearing? On full display? For no discernible reason?"

Let's face it, it's basically this:

Since the truth about quiet apostate being an ancient elvhen god is so outlandish and hence - ironically - quite unbelievable, I figure it's basically a display of Solas's sense of humor :D Messing with everybody while hiding in plain sight (which he totally does, and PW also used the phrase as well when describing their efforts to cram wolves and hints everywhere).

Like: "Haha, poor shems wouldn't figure out the truth even if I had I'm Fen'Harel tattooed on my forehead.... In fact I have an idea *rummages in his old jewelry box* AHA! That should be hilarious *dons his jawbone pendant*"

(admittedly I'd do the exact same thing - I'd be discovered immediately though because I'd be grinning like a loon from the very beginning :P)

By the Maker how have I never seen this forum BEFORE!? I must share with you my cosplays and my feelings.

I am zombiekat89 I'm on tumblr, fb, twitter and instagram. All that jazz. I want to go read some posts and it looks like i've missed on some good conversations.

If I may start one.

The reason I think Solas is the most interesting character is that he exists in a world that is not his, the people are different like he said "Walking among tranquil." but he still put his life on the line to help save it with the Inquisition. His plans to tear down the viel only came when it was proven to him that the world was broken, the Inquisitor failed to save it from the corruption of Politics of the empress and of tevinter's slavery and the Qunari savagery. I could go on, but I like seeing a companion who exists outside of your story and I would love to see more about how he came to be the way he is now. Like the young man who was wreak-less and made mistakes.

anyway, heres a cosplay pic.

Hell he even TOLD us about his whole plan something like "there's no way to restore elves as they were before, oh, except if you plan on removing the veil lol alright did you have questions ?"

I'm so dead, that's so funny and frustrating of course

Hi there Zombiekat89, welcome to the blanketfort. I've always loved it when i could be the sidekick in a game and I had some of these feels in da:i as you say : a character that doesn't exist just for your sake. We even got the mentor vibes as he gave us much advice and even his castle, hhhh lavellan greatly approves

Nice pic ! Nice staff, nice everything. Feels like it could have been shot in front of the Haven chantry

Welcome to the thread. Great cosplay. :)

Do have to say though that Solas says in Trespasser that he would have removed the veil if Corypheus had died in the explosion at Haven, as he'd planned, so Solas was always going to do that. :)

Sad news... It seems that Bioware forums will be closing down. :(

Blog post: http://blog.bioware....ing-our-forums/

"After great consideration, we are closing down the BioWare forums, effective August 26, 2016. The Star Wars: The Old Republic forums will continue to operate; however, our public boards for Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and legacy BioWare titles will no longer be available."

I don't want this place to go away!!!  :crying:  :crying:  :crying:

This is a terrible idea.  We need to let BW know that shutting down the forums is not the way to go.

Honestly though: I've had a feeling that this was coming since OT closed.

They really should reconsider this. No other DA or ME community (twitter, reddit) is like this with deep lore discussion, arguments, suggestions, people with so much knowledge and dedication...

Is there even anything we can do

Gather round vhenans.

BioWare's decision to close the forum is a poor one for many reasons, most of which are already outlined in peoples' responses to Conal's thread.

It's also really sad and completely nonsensical. like ??? and wtf ?? and.. wat... lmao... wat..

At any rate it's the hand we've been dealt, so let's build a boat to sail on. :)

I love the Solas thread and have no desire to see the community or discussion here go down the toilet.

Let's start thinking about things we need to do* and alternatives for the thread/community's future.

* Archiving the thread for example, and the old one and the contents of the affiliated group, if you guys are so inclined. I have the current OP saved anyway of course.

This sucks.

Edit: One suggestion is to make a public google group. It can act as a forum with multiple threads.

And if you guys know a way to archive threads on this forum, please let me know.

I think when OT closed a few people made new forums.  Maybe we should seek out one of those?
