wow just read the news and a bit surprised. Granted im also not to surprised viv isn't a romance option though I wasn't too sure about blackwall either. A bit disappointed that Cullen is race gated against qunari but not too surprised by it. Just means when I do my qunari playthrough I will have to look at blackwall as an option I think. It's interesting that Cullen and solas were the two romances that were added later on, and gotta say I'm so glad the game was delayed and they were added in. I have a feeling solas is going to be a rather interesting romance arc.

... Wow.  I get back on this evening and the world has SHATTERED, by the looks of it...

 

I expected Blackwall, but I expected him to be bisexual.  I never even considered that the race-gated LIs might be gated because they were added after the fact.

 

I really, really wish that the two extras could have been bisexual, or something... as it stands, I'm sure there are plenty of angry straight guys, and gay and lesbian people got left out.

 

Did they decide to add Cullen and Solas in part because not as many people were interested in Blackwall?  But he seemed to have PLENTY of fans early on.  So did Iron Bull after his reveal.  I just don't get it...

 

This is way unfair.

 

I guess all I can do is be grateful that Solas and Cullen are options at all, because I would have had to be extremely impressed by Iron Bull and Blackwall, personalitywise, to get past their appearances to romance them (then again I romanced Garrus and loved it and I don't find HIM attractive physically... but he does have that voice...).  I just don't find either Bull or Blackwall appealing appearance-wise.  Too burly, and too beardy--nothing wrong with being either of those things, of course.  Just not my type, so I am glad I have other options besides "make gay male, romance Dorian," or "make lesbian/straight male, romance Josephine."  The romances aren't the be-all and end-all, and I was going to do my initial elf playthrough no matter what happened... but I do like playing them.

Not sure about Cassandra, the only male I'm rolling is for Dorian. I need to see Sera in game to decide on her. Damn I have a lot of PTs.

You're definitely not the only one. I'll be rolling an elf for Solas, a qunari with Josephine, two male elves; one for IB, the other for Dorian, maybe a human mage for Blackwall.....

I'm having a hard time trying to think of a back story for my Dalish elf because I've never really played Dalish elves before. I've played male elves because I guess I'm a pervy elf fancier or something (and I am not ashamed ok!! ).....however I still made them city elves. I guess I'll try not to put too much thought into it and just go with the flow. Regardless, Bioware works hard and I am extremely happy, I feel bad for people who didn't get what they wanted but I am still very grateful. I hope it's more equally distributed next game and they reveal all the romances together at the beginning so people wont get their hopes up; I think that was a big part of the problem honestly.

Elven female -Solas

Canon Human female -Blackwall or forever alone, haven't decided... poor thing will always love Solas </3

(Non Traditional, I guess) Dalish male - Cassandra

Qunari female- Forever alone or Iron Bull if his personality turns out to surprise me.

Edit: I'm also pretty suprised that Cullen is race gated against dwarven and Qunari gals. I almost feel like he should have been gated against a Dalish elf instead, simply for the fact that they're Dalish? And can't you at least play the Qunari inquisitor as an andrastian if you wanted? I guess that doesn't really make sense to me but eh whatever. He's not on my radar anyway, I just thought it was interesting.

Yeah. On top of that, I'm willing to guess that Solas and Cullen were conceived and written as straight before the additional budget for more romances came in. The only way to have made it equal at that point was to just... not add anymore romances. And I am selfishly glad that they did.

Anyway...

 

This excitement has kind of made up for my losing out on Keep codes roughly 1,642 times in the last few days, because SLOW FINGERS AND ANXIETY.  I've resorted to entering drawings for them, which I never win.  And I have to do it on Twitter, which I feel weird about even though I have to have a Twitter for my writing stuff. I kind of hate Twitter.  Even though I got brave and tweeted Sheryl earlier and she replied and it was awesome and made my day. Because SHERYL FREAKING CHEE!

So the fact that Solas's romance has been tailored so specifically makes me hopefully for it. It'll be unique, I think.  Still pretty stunned about Cullen being an extra.  Of any of them, I would have thought he'd have been planned from the start. Can you imagine the poor Cullen thread if we hadn't gotten the extra year of development?! Three games and no love?  I'm just...I can't even...

I am amazed that originally Blackwall and IB were the two for straight women. Amazed that they would think Cullen/Solas wouldn't have a bigger appeal. It would have been Baldur's Gate 2 all over again for me. I don't really have intentions to romance either Blackwall or IB, unless this game is so fantastic that I play through 10 times and manage to get sick of Solas/Cullen.

I'm actually kinda surprised they originally wanted to go with only two burly warriors for straight females

Same they aren't my type either and Thank GOD they gave us more options. 

 

The other odd guy, as most people would think he's odd only after talking with him, I guess. And Cole...well, he's the first that comes to mind, when you mention the odd man.

 

Still, I'm worried about Solas being 'interesting' romance. In general it's a good thing, but who knows with BioWare. My canon Shepard was with Thane, so I'm trying hard not to like any character too much, before I learn how the game ends and what awaits them.

 

Solas might do something terrible or just die as well as any other LI. Hopefully not!

I don't think they will kill Solas they may give us choices that will keep him alive and choices that will kill him or have him leave just like the other DA games. I think the DA team is different and they won't kill off one of our LI's like ME team did. 

 

Maybe we should thank Patrick or something?

I'm equally amazed, mostly because it's two big, sort of gnarly warrior dudes.  Then again, beard aside, Blackwall has gotten progressively more attractive in his screenshots. He no longer reminds me of my dad.   And they did say they were going for more "real" than "pretty" this time!

 

The writing and voice acting is what will sell them, and I have faith those will be AH-mazing.  I do wonder when we finally get to know who Blackwall's voice actor is. Isn't he the only one left?

 I usually play human females first because it's what I relate to the most and since I don't like Cullen....I was actually thinking about trying the blackwall romance first after she gets her heart shattered by Solas. The thing is that I like playing through the romances so making a forever alone quizzy makes me sad. Unless someone wants to convince me to try Solas first. I hope it doesn't make me a traitor, I don't want to be one. Please forgive me.

Wow. So how is it that the Solas thread (which apparently "burned down") is the only safe place on the forums right now?

 

While I do feel for the people who were hoping for a different outcome, I have to admit that the race gating actually makes me more interested in these characters. For example, I actually found Solas far more interesting a character after we found out that he was race gated, and heavily so. It made me wonder... why? What about this character makes him so specific that he will only be with a female elf? MUCH INTEREST! SO WONDERING!

 

So now, even though I usually roll an elf after I've done all the other races, I'm probably going to do it as one of the first. Just becase I MUST KNOW WHY. O.o

Oh, I'm gonna try all of them eventually. I was planning on having Ashtal Adaar romance Cullen as my first run, but that flew right out the window.   So now I'm going to play Braeth Lavellan to romance Solas first. After that, probably a mage Trevelyan for Cullen (LET'S DO THE THING RIGHT). I was thinking Ashtal would ride the Bull, but now I'm thinking she'd be a better fit for Blackwall. Will have to see.

 

I have nine DAO --> DA2 runs, so I'm gonna be busy. In the Romance thread, before the announcement, someone mentioned that there are 8 LI's, and 8 possible Inquisitor combinations, and challenged the people there to match an LI to an Inquisitor, without reusing anything. I liked that idea, and I think that's how I'm gonna figure out the LI combinations for my runs.

CASSANDRA - Dude Lavellan

CULLEN - Lady Trevelyan

DORIAN - Dude Cadash

Not sure if I want to do a romance with Blackwall. I still have no idea who he is, other than being a dutiful Grey Warden, that is. I am very hopeful that I will like his character but I'm not going to make someone for him until I get more of a sense of who he is.

 

But he and Solas are going to be talking about "Kids these days." That makes me really like the idea of the Solas,Blackwall,Cole team.

I think Blackwall sounds really interesting, and I don't make Forever Alone characters either. Just liking Solas makes you a Solassian, no matter what!

Not gonna lie, I'm still annoyed about the elves not wearing shoes. I love being barefoot--I'm downright Hobbity about it, even--but SOMETIMES WE JUST WEAR SHOES WITH TOES IN THEM OKAY
