Not sure which ones but I find that a little ... hmm, ironic?  The Official forums are being closed, in part as per the official statement, because the devs don't really come to the forums much and use other social media.  So fans create a new set of forums ... which some of the devs sign up for.  And I think it's a good thing they have done so but still ...  

My understanding is that this was not a unanimous decision.  Meaning some devs I think don't care, some wanted them to go, and some wanted them to stay.  So some do really enjoy the community here while others take a Gaider approach and wanted to raze it to the ground.  From what I gathered from Chris Priestly's posts and Allan's post over on the "Concerning our forums thread" this has been a long time coming.  They[meaning higher ups] wanted to ax these forums after the blowout over DA2. And then DEFINITELY  over ME3.  I think part of it was that they(Bioware) can shift the blame of any toxic hullabaloo over onto a non-official site.  I'm hoping they go over there.

I'm glad they didn't close the forums then.  Not only because we all would have missed out on the awesomeness that is the Blanketfort but trying to stifle the unhappiness of the community just doesn't work.  Yes there were a lot of useless, unhelpful, rage-y posts but there was also a lot of thoughtful critiques.  People who are unhappy will express themselves wherever and razing the forums isn't going to change that.  At any rate, I hope the devs who enjoy the forum community will be active and welcome at the new BSN.

Ardentblossom real sorry for the hassle I know its a pita, may have jumped the gun a bit before but in the day and second day right after the announcement everything was kinda crazy and there was a lot of panic. Would like to state for the record that when I was talking about red flags I was NOT referring to AW but to the admin of /another/ alternative forum. I have no knowledge regarding red flags for any other forum admins and I have no problems with RDF. I like rdf and have only had good experiences with AW. Its ok if you feel differently or have reasons to feel otherwise, just stating my opinions and what I was and wasn't saying for the record. I do appreciate people sharing info or warnings that they think are important also.

Oh definitely. I think it was partially that some of the worst of it[like the threats against Gaider/Hepler] was stemming from here and I think there was concern officially housing vile trolls that were threatening developers.  First and foremost, Bioware has to protect their employees.   While the customers/players critiques are important - it can't come at the expense of the emotional/physical safety of their employees.  So it may be a matter of timing and budgets - there isn't anything coming out this year and the forums are relatively quiet and dead so it was a good time to kill it off without appearing like they were silencing people.  I do think from a marketing standpoint, it's a little odd.  They have this captive audience that visit daily and for hours a day long after a game has been released.  Why not use that. 

 

Regardless, I do hope whatever forum people go to, the reputation for toxicity doesn't transfer.

Barrett Rodych--he's the only one I am aware of atm. Always liked Barrett.

 

We currently have two. One has already been named. I won't name the other because I'm not keen on "outing" them, but to the second one's credit, they're using the same username there as they did here (and as their Twitter handle), so they probably aren't really "hiding".

I've liked the 3 choices presented so far, RDF, EC and BSN. Overall I like the idea of keeping the whole community together, but of course I'm happy to follow this thread anywhere.

 

I'm glad the forums are gradually re-settling into their respective new homes  Despite my having joined so late and being a relative newbie, the community here really feels close, and it would be very sad to lose that.

Blanketfort Update

 

So, there's been a development. Some of you already know from discussing it in Discord, and it's already been brought up in the thread. There's another replacement forum/potential Blanketfort home, BSN.boards.net.

 

I'm not trying to confuse or mess with people or go back on previous decisions - lots of things are fast-paced, in flux and up in the air at the moment. Also not trying to uproot anyone who has already been settling in elsewhere, just doing my best with new information that becomes available as it becomes available. I know RDF is the thread's current consensus. BSN.boards didn't exist at the time of that discussion.

 

Bringing it to light as a suggestion as it's my current top preference for a replacement BSN. These are things I personally (as an individual, not Blanketfort OP) want from a BSN replacement, as in what would make a place my ideal:

• a true BSN Mark II, not an existing forum. Then it's a true continuation of BSN's community in its current state, and we don't have to impose on anyone or track mud into their house;
• with similar structure/layout for familiarity;
• which covers DA and ME in equal measure (keep the number of places people have to visit to meet their needs as low as possible);
• which isn't run by someone people keep mentioning red flags for;
• where I can make a new Solas thread, if the threadusers wanted to go there (in the interest of keeping our subcommunity together and running);
• where a lot of BSN's good people go, so it's a similar community to before

BSN.boards meets these criteria. It's actually the only places that does. That said, I've checked it out, been watching it, and totally approve. It seems to be the leading choice in the community too (that's my interpretation of things though of course). Some BioWare employees have joined it. As mentioned, prominent community figures and threads such as Hrungr and the Twitter threads seem to have relocated there. Hrungr received a number of PMs recommending the place. I've read and heard only good things about the site's creator - glowing praise from multiple reliable sources actually, and not a single red flag. At the time of writing it has 258 members and 1052 posts. They also invited us there specifically, having made subforums to allow discussion of characters and romance in the DA:I and ME:A subsections. As well I think it represents a chance for a true "Blanketfort 2" experience in full - the Blanketfort nested like it currently is within the wider BSN community. I dunno, it's important to me that the fracturing and scattering of the wider BSN community is as minimal as possible, and to preserve some semblance of things as they are.

 

That said, I've no interest in overriding a decision, or dictating, and the preference of the thread as a whole is important to me. And the same obvious caveat as last time applies, that obviously nothing precludes people from signing up and making use of multiple places.

 

So let me know your thoughts/feedback in-thread if you want, and do me the favor of casting a vote at a new poll here.   I know I know, oh Solas, another poll, lol.

I signed up on BSN and I like it. I have nothing againts the other forums, but I'm trying to guess which one will become more populated, and for now it seems like BSN will make it. But we'll see!

If we decide to migrate there (or anywhere, actually!), maybe you could write something like this (or capy/paste lol) and make a post on tumblr? Just to spread the word with other fans

I actually got them both signed a while back (back before Trespasser came out).

Figured it was unlikely! Alas. Reminds me though, I had him sign something last year and I chuckled a bit to witness his discomfort as people all asked about what he was up to DA wise/if he had anything to say/done any recording lately (all before Trespasser came out, obviously).

I have the special edition World of Thedas II signed by Weekes, Kristjanson, Darrah, Laidlaw and a bunch of the other team members -- can't tell you exactly who since I can't read their signatures. Hahahaha

I've just seen and read way too many amazing discussions and posters on here to ever see this place as toxic. I've seen the trolls as well but those are everywhere. The majority of good is being overlooked for the minority of bad. I have no idea how or why this place got that sort of reputation when there is far worse out there and how even some posters are even happy to see it go.

Anyway, I think the Cyonan's BSN is probably the best and closest fit for the main blanketfort but I loved how welcoming they were at RDF so I'll just post at both honestly.
