@Tamyn: It was originally announced earlier, right? Shortly after they announced the delay, it was revealed that one of the things they had been working on, was adding not only the two already known additional races - elves & dwarves - to the playable options, but also the Qunari.

 

Since Solas was from the beginning planned as elf girls only, in the 'original' game, Solas would thus have not been romanceable.

But yeah. It first I was a bit 'nooooo' about the delay, but a few hours later I was like: Well, I'd rather they dish out an amazing game, than something half-finished, so if they need another year, they should take it.

 

That said, I still think November 20th is way too far off... 2,5 more months... *le sigh*

That's a long time - especially trying to dodge and avoid story-spoilers. I hope there are no leaks. I want to discover Solas and other characters all on my own :3

I took one look in the Blackwall thread and had to come over and thank you guys for being so much more awesome when Solas was confirmed straight. I can't believe there are people saying they "cheered more loudly" for a straight Blackwall than they would have for a bisexual one. So, again, thanks for being sympathetic and understanding when it came out instead of.. this.

I should be happy about all the option I'm so lucky to have for my female Inquisitors, but I feel guilty to be so...

 

I can only hope in the future, BioWare will have a more even choice of LI.

Same here Fel, I tend to just hug people and then go into hiding when these things happen due to an overwhelming feeling of guilt.  It does sting to see people attack straight women as much as it does when they attack the LGBT community here.  As a straight woman I seem to end up feeling either extreme sympathy or extreme guilt .

I'm sorry things turned out the way they did and I'm sorry people are being awful about it.  I poked my head in Blackwall thread, saw the biphobia and noped right back out. This mess seems to have brought out the worst in a lot of people. =/

 

I'd say "maybe next time" but that's really poor consolation for people who have to say "maybe next time" every time.  I hope BioWare understands some of what's being said about the matter at least.

I heard something about Inquisitor actually being a Hawke? so that's why...? It was actually like very very early development but then after DA II they got impression that Hawke and human only protagonist was not very well recieved and people wanted to choose races in next game again so they decided to listen fanbase and bring back races from origins+ new one qunari which fans expressed their love tru years aswell... ah well they change things in development like I change socks...*shrug*...but don't think that is the reason why they put Solas romance later. But how much later actually? Maybe they visit this thread and we gave them idea ...I hope this "later adding" does not mean that it will be short hmm...I mean they put Cullen and Solas together in same setence...and Cullen is a npc...and don't have idea how much of romantic content Cullen has....is there be equal romance content for everyone my question it is...and not like in Mass Effect.

Oh my, I just got back from my first day of school and I did not expect the last LI to be announced (thank god though, it was about time and I would've felt even worse for the people who had to wait for it longer than we had). Sorry for the Blackwall fans who wanted him as bi, I'm kind of blown away that female elves have so many options, just wow! Not that I'm complaining but I'm having that bittersweet feeling again, eh   Oh gosh, imagine the chaos you can create with a female Lavellan if you're going to flirt with 5 people at the same time and Skyhold just turns into an utter mess because of it  I think I'll follow everyone's wise council and just stay in here in our blanket fort (love it!), where it's safe and cozy and happy and full of rainbows and cute animals (thread burned to the ground my ass, pfft) *hugs everyone*

Ugh this is frustrating I had a vague idea of making the Lavellan clan the sister clan the Sabrae were going to get their new halla from plus making Merrill's replacement, who we see in act 3, related to my dalish mage either as a younger sister, a friend or as someone she helped to train. There wasn't a mention of this new First on the wiki so I loaded up DA2 but couldn't find her.

 

Am I going nuts, has fanfic once again replaced canon in my brain or does this character actually exist?

Hm.  I don't remember Merrill having a replacement.  But there is an older woman in mage robes (Vinell) who appears in Act III, maybe that's who you're thinking of?

I think the Hawke thing is a rumour.  It probably came from very early (possibly from the time DA2 was being made) concept art that showed a mage (who looked a lot like default m!Hawke) and other characters who resemble Iron Bull, Sera and (possibly?) Blackwall.

for what I know, Hawke was never considered for the new protagonist of DAI. It was a rumor based on the fact that DAI used a lot of the exalted march (if I remember the title raght) the exapansion for DA2 that was abbandoned.

 

I remember cleary when DAI was initially confirmed with a human only protagonist. I was one of the very deluded fans, sometimes I was even trolled for it, but I was one of first to party when it was confirmed the return of the playeble races.

Considering the amount of bugs it sounds like they're still working through, I'm glad they got the extra month. Just...man, I was so excited for October.  But we're nearly at 10 weeks away (as of this coming Tuesday or Thursday, depending on where you are), and that really isn't much.

 

I keep telling myself that, anyway!  I'm going to be so excited when I finally have the case in my hands I'll hardly know what to do with myself.  This is a bit twisted, right?  To fantasize about the day you pick up a game??    There will be celebratory dancing in my car on the way home from Gamestop, where I will be promptly at 10.  I will try not to dance in the store. I may well fail.

Afternoon Solas Thread

I think I used up most of my likes catching up on last night. Phew. Thanks for making me smile through my stressful morning.

I've only ventured to here and the Twitter thread so far... I still kinda fear everywhere.

 

 

 

Right? I've seen posts like that... Then again, I've also seen posts claiming that all that's left of this thread is a bunch of straight people, and that made me so f****** angry that I stopped going into other threads, ahaha.

Damn, sorry that that's happening. I've clashed a few times in the past with a some anti-bi posters here. I've learned to just walk away now, but I usually still go kick a wall or something after. So infuriating. 

 

I was hoping Blackwall would be bi, but I was so sure the last person would be a straight Viv. I'm still really surprised that it's turned out to be Blackwall and he was the original straight female interest. We've had such a history of 'pretty boys', that the idea we would have just had two big burly (and kinda old?) guys is really surprising.

 

I wonder what would have caused more of a storm. The current situation, or the original where every sexuality got 2 but Cullen was unavailable for a 3rd game 

 

I completely forgot about the human only thing as well. I was not a fan when that was announced because I like playing as elves. Then I got elves, and then I got Solas, Win-Win.

 

Now that the romances are out of the way, I wonder what we'll get next. I was hoping for more videos from the VAs. I'd love to see something for Solas, Dorian, Cole and Blackwall. I still don't believe I've actually heard Solas or Blackwall say anything in the game yet.

Sorry, but no.  Due to story, and probably time, related reasons, Solas is only available to female elves.

I haven't gone through the 615 pages of this thread sorry, but is the consensus the reason its female elf only is that he wants elven children? Human females would result in largely human children (I.E Alistair) and dwarves and Qunari can't interbreed with other races.

Nope! Consensus seems to be that him being straight is unrelated to him being elf-locked, in that he was straight before he was made an LI, and thus any other gating is strictly story-related. Some theories involve the Eluvians, which make sense if you've read The Masked Empire, but we don't really have a nailed-down theory yet.

 

Could be kid related, though. Wouldn't blame any elf for that.
