I took one look in the Blackwall thread and had to come over and thank you guys for being so much more awesome when Solas was confirmed straight. I can't believe there are people saying they "cheered more loudly" for a straight Blackwall than they would have for a bisexual one. So, again, thanks for being sympathetic and understanding when it came out instead of.. this.

Seriously, dude? Two people came in there and they got crapped on or ignored. They left. It has happened here. You're doing two bad things here.

 

1. You're putting all of the Blackwall fans into one pot by saying they handled it worse (or whatever you are saying) WHEN THEY DID NOT

 

2. You're doing it in a place that they can see it and it'll cause hurt. Aren't you all about not being upset? You are perpetuating this kind of screwed up high school thing we have going on in this sub forum. This has happened twice now in this thread and it ain't cool. Just... stop complaining about other thread groups in general in a place where they can read it. Get a group to do that in. Ridiculous. I'm really tiring of it because I look at every thread and I see this crap and it's creating an incredibly unhealthy forum vibe when you have sub groups who may say they're inviting but they complain about other threads. NO, NOT EVERYONE... but I see it a lot in here and other places. It's very sad.
 

So yeah, couple posters were offensive, they got it off their chest, everyone remained unscathed and everyone is still awesome and fine. It's not a pitfire in hell that is filled to the brim with bigots who want to hurt you.

Just got caught up on the thread again this morning - seriously, people on the BSN talking about how we 'burned to the ground' (what does that even mean?) clearly don't come in here... Or pay attention to the constantly rising page count. (Also, only straight people left? Granted, I don't necessarily keep a running tab on who is what orientation in here but I can name offhand a few bi girls in here. Couple male Solas-mancers too - maybe less excited about Solas as an LI now but there is more to his character than that.)

@Roxy: a little late, but I just wanted to offer my condolences about your grandfather. And congratulations on the new member of your family!

@Nocte: sorry to hear about the Blackwall thread... I only ventured in there on occasion - but I did see that it was mix of genders rooting for him as a romance, so the biphobia is genuinely a shock to me. Sorry that your disappointment was met with that instead of the sympathy it deserved.

Yeah I've seen other threads encouraged by mods not to specifically talk about their issues with people in other threads before. It's best if we don't start that here, I think.

 

And I've looked through the Blackwall thread and those saying unpleasant things are most definitely in the minority. It's no different than when we get troll posters here in that it happens and they leave and that's that. 

 

I sympathize with the frustration but leeeeeet's just stay positive in here, yeah?

Putting a slightly lengthy comment in spoilers, below. This is just me sharing in the "hiding from the scary other threads" comments:

I only go to the Twitter thread and then here. I went to the Blackwall thread yesterday to let them know I was happy for them..but I didn't read any of the comments. Not because I assumed there was negativity. I was just remembering what had happened here and...well, yeah. I am an empathic person. If I feel the mood or energy of someone else for long enough, I begin to carry that with me. When I feel sad for people. I really do feel sad for them...Same goes for anger. My best option is to avoid the negativity altogether. We had problems for a little while with a few people but it was resolved quickly (I was being free with the report button). I do this because I love having one place to go to away from the drama. This is The Solas thread. We were once the people giving out deep, beautiful confessions that were so lovely that a few Bioware peeps popped in to share their appreciation for our atmosphere. I want us to keep that same fuzzy feeling even in the bad times. Call me foolish for saying that but I don't know what I would do without this thread. If people think we have all but dissapear, then let them think that. This will be our little secret, fellow Solassians!

 

Damn, now I want to rub Solas' head for good luck. Maybe that will be a funny party banter.

 

Oh my god, the party banter! I can't wait to hear Varric cracking the jokes at Solas wearing his pajamas into battle, asking if he can rub his head for good luck, and Solas cracking a joke that's so ninja that no one realizes they got insulted until later.

 

Can you tell I'm impatient for this game, guys?

I haven't gone through the 615 pages of this thread sorry, but is the consensus the reason its female elf only is that he wants elven children? Human females would result in largely human children (I.E Alistair) and dwarves and Qunari can't interbreed with other races.

No... Its just one theory among many. And even if it were the consensus among fans it wouldn't mean it's true. Personally, I think it's too simple and boring a reason (they keep using the word 'interesting' to describe the romance), and believe it has something to do with makes the elven race unique - the Eluvians, or perhaps elven immortality.

You know what just occurred to me? They weren't going to make Solas a romance originally. So they were going to have a character with GDL's sexy voice be unavailable.

That would have been just plain cruel!

I'm with you on the empathy thing, it's why I usually run a mile when things get very heated and also why I try to stay light hearted as much as I can .

I would have been convinced by that point that Bioware lives off of fan tears, if he had been left unromanceable. *slightly off topic* When I was younger, I wanted to be a professional voice actor. Seriously, Tara Strong and Billy West are my heroes. But I've been told my voice is annoying so...*hangs head*

When I think about all the creativity that goes into these games and the voices that stick with us, I sometimes think about how cool it would be to be a VA for Bioware games. I mean, I wasn't even interested in Bull when the speculation of romance was being tossed around but....Freddie Prinze Jr., though.

That would be such an amazing job.  Freddie sold me on Bull too...before that I was just sort of "eh" on the character concept.  They're talking about maybe Stephen Dillane on the Blackwall thread. Pure speculation, but that man has one hell of a voice.  I'd be running with "Team Auditory Chocolate."

If the inquisition got his attention such that he felt he could help and came looking for us, I have to wonder how far into the game he'll appear. Won't we have to have gained some attention for a random wild elf to have noticed?

I've never been this happy for a delay in the game than now,knowing that Solas romance wouldn't even exist   (even crazier that Cullen romance wouldn't exist !)

 

But I still can't stop smiling about the fact that he's a romance. HE IS A ROMANCE. Just waiting to get some Solas thigh action now.

I think he'll appear early.

 

Okay, I hope he'll appear early.  I do think there's a good possibility he'll be our first mage companion, though. He'll come to us, and then we'll have to go pick Viv and Dorian up.

I'm thinking he shows up pretty early on, probably to help teach us about our new abilities. I'm very confident that he's the first of our mage companions we'll get.

Ugh this is frustrating I had a vague idea of making the Lavellan clan the sister clan the Sabrae were going to get their new halla from plus making Merrill's replacement, who we see in act 3, related to my dalish mage either as a younger sister, a friend or as someone she helped to train. There wasn't a mention of this new First on the wiki so I loaded up DA2 but couldn't find her.

 

Am I going nuts, has fanfic once again replaced canon in my brain or does this character actually exist? 

 

Well, Vinell appears in Act III and she is dressed in robes, so she might be the new First to Marethari; you can speak with her about how the clan is doing in Act III, during "A Murder of Crows". Merrill also mentions in Act III (upon entering the Dalish camp as part of the ambient dialogue where one of your companions comments on the Dalish camp) that the Keeper has a new First.
