ooo has it been said that he's difficult to romance?
No, it hasn't, but remember we've been told everyone will be a bit more difficult to romance this time around, since they pay attention to what you do (maybe even if they aren't with you, so you can't hide your actions). So if you happen to do something that Solas unexpectedly disagrees with, it could mean that the romance is out of the question.
And again, we don't really know what he'll be like once we encounter him. I think he'll be awesome and I'll want to play his romance. I could be horribly wrong, and he turns out to be a raging jerk, who, while he may or may not have decent intentions, isn't the sort of person I could put my elf with--in which case she may or may not be somewhat friendly with him, but she'll undoubtedly remain single.
Anyone else wanting to elf up Skyhold? I want it to look as Dalish as possible.
I really hope Solas is as awesome as he sounds like he's going to be. If he is, my Inquisitor will get along great with him. Honestly, though, while his romance might be difficult to trigger, Weekes seems to have to go out of his way to make Solas and Cole dislike his character. So maybe Solas will be pretty easy to get along with? I hope so!
Yes, I'm thinking that with how grey area he's supposed to be, Solas might be hard to tick off completely.
My canon playthrough is basically 'female mages prove everyone around is wrong'. They're all charming and witty and value freedom most of all. Obviosuly then, they oppose chantry and are more interested in uncovering the secrets of the past and learning the truth about what's really going on.
Other than that, their personalities vary a lot.
Iris Surana - power hungry, pragmatic, arrogant and manipulative (but still had her moments, she's not evil after all), flirted with everyone, slept with many and ultimately stayed with Zevran (but I'll change that to Alistair for 'reasons'- so glad we have a Keep now).
Aurora Hawke - loyal, friendly, and idealistic. Fighting with slavers, protecting the weak, helping elves and all that - and sometimes telling bad jokes Romanced Fenris (rivals, because she's very pro-mage)
Sol(?)/Sun(?) Lavellan (I need to change her name, she can't be named similarly to Solas, But I'm not sure yet how to name her, it goes against my original plan) - I want her to be different from Dalish, more concerned about all elves, more accustomed to humans, yet eager to uncover every secret of ancient elves. Also, very curious about the world, likes dancing, laughs a lot. That's it for now, I don't have more, but I'll figure it out soon. I think that Solas might like her after all. Hopefully she will like him
Are we sharing stories of how we fell for the Solas?
Well I hadn't been on the forums since before ME3 came out (my Joker romance hopes ). I was lightly following DAI and just pushed BioWare related stuff out of my mind for a while after hearing about the year delay. Then Dragon Age popped back into my head during the spring and I checked back in again.
One of the first things I saw was that leaked magazine picture of Solas and didn't think much of it. Then people started ragging on him and I have a habit of always rooting for the underdog, so I decided that I was going to get myself interested in this character to counter all the unpleasantness.
It worked. He's by far my favorite character of this bunch from what we know about him!
That's sort of inversely how I fell for Solas as well.
It all started with the Twitter thread and that leaked German magazine photo of him. The angle and the lighting made his face look a lot like Nicholas Cage to me - just literally an off-hand, split-second glance sort of thing - and I commented as such in the thread. Just a harmless little non-sequitur thrown out there.
And then that somehow snowballed and morphed into an entire Nicholas Cage meme that never did go away entirely.
Had never been my intention and I was deeply embarrassed at what ensued. I wasn't really drawn to him or interested in him at that time, but once my errant comment had so many people making fun of him, I felt bad and started lurking this thread with the intent on trying to become a fan of his instead, as a sort of counter-balance to the monster insult I'd created.
And then I just sort of fell. Hard.

More zodiac signs for the other companions:
Spoiler
I'm not sure exactly how accurate the chart is but I did check and saw that me and solas are compatible (i'm a leo) so I don't think the chart is that bad lol.
At first I thought he was an Aquarius, but now I think he could be a Sagittarius too.
Do you guys have any ideas of what his zodiac sign might be?
Yes, I'm thinking that with how grey area he's supposed to be, Solas might be hard to tick off completely.
It might be that he's not that interested in the affairs of the physical plane. Regimes can change at any time, the whole plight of the elves/Orlais/Mage-Templar thing isn't really important to him since he lives out in the middle of nowhere. The only reason he's come to help the Inquisition is because the Breach could destroy the Fade.

oh my god Dragon Racer you. are. so. CUTE that's adorable lmao
I decided to follow advice from here and go with the 3 mages for my first play through. It occurred to me that if they could all get together it would be quite interesting since they each come from a different background; my male elf Warden mage is from the Circle, my female Hawke mage is an apostate taught by her father'; my female Dalish has learnt from the Keeper; and then of course there is Solas who is self taught. The potential amount of lore they could exchange is amazing. Chuck in Dorian and Vivienne as well for an additional perspective and that would be a seriously awesome council of mages. Seems comical when you consider the Inquisition was originally set up by the Divine. Even without the Warden and Hawke there seems a great deal of knowledge that the various mages in the Inquisition could share.
It might also be interesting to see how each reacts to the other. I pretty sure Vivienne is going to be one of those mages who look down on Solas as a hedge wizard; I wonder if Dorian will be the same or be more open minded. Otherwise it could work out that those two are on one team representing orthodox learning and my Inquisitor and Solas will be on the other representing the alternative school of thought.
Looking at the zodiac signs, how can you determine who someone is if you don't know their birthday? Not everyone is typical. Some people are born on the cusp and cross over two signs. I'm Cancer but borderline Leo, so according to the chart we could have love and friendship but we're going to really have to work at it. Oh well, that was probably true with or without the star signs.
Ahhh, Solassians, I need cheering up. I should know better than to talk to people about conservation, when they themselves do not understand beyond - 'No one must kill this cute fluffy animal'. To quote Solas 'It's more complicated than that'.

Interesting. As an Aries, happy to see I'd get along well with Solas. Interesting that they feel Taurus (in this case, Varric, which is a pretty spot-on call, in my opinion) would be an opposites attract sort of situation, though. I feel Aries and Taurus share quite a bit in common, actually. I know they're a bit opposite in fire and earth signs, and Aries being maybe a bit more high-strung and impatient compared to slow and steady Taurus, but both signs are generally prone to take full enjoyment in all things and also tend to be very generous and gregarious. Some of my closest friendships have been with Taurus people, honestly. I'd have pegged one of the water signs as being far more opposite to Aries as a whole. *shrugs*
As far as Solas, with the tiniest bit we know, I'd feel like Sagittarius, Aquarius, or Virgo are all good possibilities. I lean towards Virgo, though:
Virgo is a very independent zodiac sign. They are fully able to put their intelligence to use and get things done for themselves. It is possible however that their narrow mindedness causes their creativity to suffer and they may lead regular routine lives. They may dwell too much on the past and over complicate things and this may limit their ability to move forward and confuse themselves. In conclusion, Virgos are able to be independent but the less evolved types will have difficult if someone is not there helping them to achieve more and not be so critical of themselves.
Virgo and Friendship:
People look up to Virgo for friends because they are straight thinkers and solve problems logically. They are truthful, loyal and determined. Some people might find them cold or emotionally detached because they live in their minds, not in their emotions and feelings. It might be hard to pin down how a Virgo friend is feeling because they easily live in denial. A person who is able to read deep into another person will notice when Virgo is not well but if they confront them about it, they would rather retreat then talk about it. It is best to keep your emotional distance from a Virgo friend unless they open up to you first. Virgo might try to analyze and control a friend's life but only with the idea that they will improve their life, not purely for the sake of controlling. Be patient with your Virgo friend and understand that their recommendations are only to make your life better.
Virgo and Business:
Virgos are very intelligent, they have an excellent memory and a highly analytical mind. This makes them good investigators and researchers. They also have the ability to probe into a person's emotions and they can often see into people and detect what their motives are. This makes them great policemen or interrogators. Virgos are very good at problem solving, this is what they do best. They are confronted with a problem, they will pick apart the pieces and put it together in the proper order. They are rational thinkers and are good at settling other people's disputes and putting them on the right track for reconciliation. Any position that requires the above features, which is a very long list, is perfect for the Virgo. They keep the world in order.
Virgo Temperament:
Before a Virgo plunges into anything, from a problem to a vacation idea, they need to analyze all the facts and know all the details before they plunge in and make a decision. This makes them seem indecisive and slow. Virgo's perception is their reality, more so then other astrology signs. What they believe is what will be, if they have a negative outlook on life, things will present themselves to be negative and they will be very moody and isolated/detached. If they are positive, the same events that occur will be held in a positive light and they will be a pleasant, well adjusted person. A Virgo mind is a very powerful mind and they must have the proper attitude for their life to be happy and successful. Virgo needs to get in touch with their feelings, this is why they usually seem cold or detached. They are very prone of living in denial. They will say the feel okay or everything is alright even when it's not. This is an easy way out, the one thing that Virgo does not like to analyze is their feelings so pretending everything is okay is a good defense mechanism for not having to take a closer look at their feelings. Virgo has an unpredictable and sometimes unstable temperament.
Virgo Deep Inside:
They need to be organized in their mind, sometimes all their energy is taken from organizing their mind that they have a difficult time organizing their surroundings. They easily look too deep into an issue and over analyze what they perceive. Virgo is ambitious and strives to always know more and have more. This is in their eternal quest to bring order to chaos. Even if order is obtained from an outsiders' point of view, Virgo will not be settled for they have a very active mind that is always thinking and can never be silenced. Virgos want to be of use, they need to be important and essential to everyone in their lives and in everything they do. Virgo's major life lesson is to learn to trust in and have faith in the unknown. They have to understand that things in life happen for a reason that is not always known to them, they do not have to always know everything. They need to learn to calm down and not over-analyze a situation or event. Deep inside, Virgo is very sensitive and they need to be appreciated for all the things they do. When is Virgo is offended or hurt, they may never show it.
Virgo in a Nutshell:
Virgo exists in the mind, everything is inside. To the world, Virgo presents a calm and collected exterior but on the inside, nervous uncontrolled intensity in the mind, trying to figure things out, how to improve everything, analyzing and thinking. Virgo can tire itself out without even moving! Virgo has a constant drive to improve and perfect, this can lead to extreme pickiness and finickiest. They are pure, their motives are honest never malicious and they want to accomplish something.
And for the romance side of things... *waggles eyebrows*
Spoiler
What it's like to date a Virgo Man:
The Virgo man has a cool exterior with a sensitive interior. He has tremendous respect for a woman and will treat her like an equal. He likes women who stir his emotions because he is reluctant to express his own emotions, which he tries and this often causes conflict not just inside himself, but it spills out into the relationship. This man takes patience and understanding. He will not get extremely close so do not try to enter his psyche and become closely entangled, this will make him feel threatened. He needs a classy woman who is not impulsive or unconventional. He leads a predictable life and a predictable woman will make him feel safe. He is perfect for the down to earth, conventional woman. He won't be romantic and sweep you off your feet, but he will be by your side and be very loyal. This man's sensuality comes out with time. For the woman who wants a stable, solid relationship with a visible, smooth sailing future is perfect for the Virgo man.
How To Attract Virgo:
Virgos need intellectual stimulation. Impress them with facts and details. Always try to come to conclusions when having a conversation, they do not like topics that go nowhere, they like conversations to come to a close or consensus, even if you agree to disagree. They are very conventional people so do not do anything spontaneous or force them to make a hasty decision, they take their time and think intensely in their mind. They are not slow, their brain is working evaluating everything. Do not attempt to probe inside their mind because their emotions are pretty much closed off until the relationship is solid, and they will decide when that time will be. Virgos are natural worriers, do not let this get to you. Do not give them cause to worry because this makes them get wound up like a spring. Let Virgo take the lead, they like to be in control of what is happening. Keep the date tasteful and do not be vulgar, they like calm and classy surroundings and people.

Wow, that's pretty precise for speculation. Maybe it's just me? Anyways, I'm a Scorpio, so according to the chart, I would have a "true love, soulmates & friendship" with Varric, a "lover & friendship" with Cole, "little compatibility" with Blackwall, "opposites attract" with Leliana and Solas, and "friendly and flirty" with Vivienne.
Interesting. As an Aries, happy to see I'd get along well with Solas. Ooh... interesting! I've always had a fascination with the Zodiac, both western and eastern. I definitely agree that Virgo seems to fit him best - he seems more Earth than Fire. Though Sagittarius could work too - it all depends on just how much 'spice' there is beneath the 'sweet' - though of all the Earth signs I would say Virgo is the most openly passionate. Aquarius just seems too social and flighty to suit him, in my opinion (I say that as a Capricorn born right on the cusp of Aquarius).
I'd also like to point out that if Vivienne is a Capricorn then according to the Chart she is the only person I could be soul mates with, whereas from everything I know of her thus far, she is the absolute last person I would see eye to eye with, let alone think of as a soul mate, So I'm thinking that either Viv is wrong or the Chart is.
What about Luna or other names that mean moon to be opposites XD
Hmm...I haven't thought of that, but it's worth considering. Choosing a name is always a very important thing to me, If I'll ever have children, choosing name for them would take forever.
As for the zodiac for DA:I characters...hmm... I wonder how does this apply to characters from other universe whose birthdays we don't know Anyway, I'm curious about Thedosian (is that a good word?) astronomy and astrology. We've been said we'll learn something about it. Maybe they have their own zodiac signs as well?

I think i read a tweet from one of the devs (not sure if i can find it) saying that there's going to be something relating to stars/astronomy in the game. I know Thedas months are different so maybe with more info someone astrologically inclined can make a zodiac chart thats parallel to their months.
edit: found it:
Hi feel free to ignore/delete this cause this is just curiosity about the DA universe. Is there anything on Astronomy in Thedas? Constellations, Star charts and the like?

I'm a Gemini, so if that chart's speculation were correct, supposedlly we'd get along like oil and fire.
But, that said, I don't put much stock into zodiacs, either Eastern or Western--or blood types, or any of the other ways people try to "type" personalities. Whenever I read any given zodiac description, I notice that I have at least one or two things in common with most of them, and none of them could be said to perfectly describe me.
So yeah... I really don't put much stock into it, I'm afraid. Buuuut, I guess it works for some people, so, who am I to naysay it?

I mostly just look at it as entertainment or fun. Definitely not something I put serious stock into or suddenly assume someone's personality because they mentioned their Western or Eastern zodiac sign or their Myers-Briggs personality test letters.
I do, however, tend to fall almost completely in line with the traditional description of an Aries, so I sometimes find the zodiac stuff more amusing than most. That, or I fit into a box very well. LOL
