My biggest reason for shunting the "elf off-spring" theory, to the side (not completely dismissing, since it's not like I have inside info), is that I could have sworn that the race-gating *only* was for story purposes (meaning, it wasn't including the LI's set sexuality). So Eluvians, ancient elves, magic elven blood, yada-yada, seems more "story" related to specifically the race-gate.

My (personal) biggest gripe with the propagation theory, is that it simply limits the role playing of certain types of characters. Limitations are already in place based on gender, race, and even (potentially) gameplay elements. If in order to complete the romance arc, we could only choose to be with him by reproduction, then that limits me even further. I most certainly could play a PC who fits that criteria, but talk about designing a PC based solely on the game/character parameters of an LI....yeesh.

Final thought though!! I have NO PROBLEM, if romance dialogue included talk about marriage/children/getting a dog/wuteva. This could easily ADD to the rping that one could have with said LI's. Just don't let it be THE make or break, of the romance arc. Simply my .02.

I haven't really followed the Cullen thread. Were people upset/angry/disappointed about Cullen's racial gates and end up not wanting to romance him for being racist?

 

I really don't know how people responded to it, sorry.  I've just watched the reasons people have given for possible gating and a lot of people guessed at Cullen for his interest in human and elven females in DAO and him calling dwarves and qunari heathens.

 

I would personally be a little disappointed but not enough to be put off the content.

 

@coldwetn0se: I don't mind talk about it either  Just so long as it's not basically another requirement to the romance.

Really though, babies being a possible option with Solas would be the only thing that would soften the blow of not being able to romance him as a guy.

The AssQuisitor looks like kind of a fun character to play. I could never manage being that mean to companions though.

 

@Nefla: I don't think most people have a problem with it being an option.  A lot of us just don't like the idea of the romance boiling down to "babies or gtfo."

Some people don't like kids, or don't want to see it in their game. Others are maybe sensitive to the topic due to issues of infertility. And then there's the worry that a character would see the PC as a means to an end, like, I want to be with you and have sex with you just to procreate. That would be a little weird, so perfectly understandable if people feel that way. But if a character brought up wanting to have babies or a future, I don't see my character having a problem with it - as long as it isn't of the Morrigan Dark Ritual variety.

 

The only issue I have with the whole baby anything is it was automatically assumed Solas is some bald creeper who wants an elf woman to pop out elf kids for him. It's possible that's the case, but it's also really simplistic and then no one has suggested the same of Cullen. It's all right for him to be racist and have preferences in his lovers, but not Solas? Story reasons is story reasons, and we don't know either of theirs. I will just laugh myself sick if Cullen's romance involves some sappy bit about coming up with baby names and Solas is all, "WTF would I want kids for? Go away."

Buuuut I must admit that I kind of want to hear Solas raise his voice. I get the impression that he's not the type to do it very often and it could be very.....appealing.

It's just annoying...it's like saying a guy is only straight for baby making reasons.

 

sure, there are tons of reasons why he might only want a elf girl, maybe they smell better than other females from other races. Maybe he doesn't want to be with a guy because he likes .... i wont finish that sentence but regardless the idea of him wanting a little Solas or Solsa (female version of his name in my head canon) is more a cute gag in my mind than a viable and only plausible reason, for me its more of a joke, though if they added a DLC with him spouting some banter about why it isn't about the womb, i'd die laughing.

It's nice to see this thread a little more active than it has been. There was hardly anything to read for a few days except arguments in other threads. I had to resort to reading my college textbooks.
