I am impressed by the thoughtfulness that goes into, what some name their PC's. I always have a handful of names I reuse. Two that are guaranteed: Ulee and Castor. Castor came about, because depending on the CC's, male PC's can look kinda "meh". Once I find a look that I am good with (in those cases....ME1&2 would be good examples), nearly all male PC's in said games, end up looking alike. So I name my male PC's after famous twins (Castor/Pollux, Cain(Kane)/Abel, Romulus(Rom)/Remus(Remi)). *shrug*

Ulee means......Ulee. I dunno. I loved that damn movie, "Ulee's Gold" (which incidentally was the male protags name - played by Peter Fonda - but I always use it for my favored female PC). Thought the name was cool. Yeah....I'm not that "thoughtful".

**EDIT**
Just looked up the movie again, and Ulee was short for Ulysses.

I've already decided that the human warrior I will have for Cassandra's romance will be called Reygal, which is what I butchered Regalyan's name into. Because I could, that's why.

One day I will plan all my playthroughs to have names from She-Ra. I think Castaspella would be an awesome name for mage Lavellan, don't you?

I'm planning on naming my mage Lavellan after a gemstone that has qualities that suit her personality.

Speaking of names, I laughed so hard when Patrick said his Assquisitor's name is YOLOSwag420. Now I'm picturing us all discussing the hidden meaning behind our names and they're just like "LOL I named my guy, Guy."

This Guy?

Anyways, I'm a bit odd. I usually just stick to the default name, especially with nonhuman characters. I don't want to name them something anachronistic or something that doesn't fit their race. Or worse, name them something inappropriate. Actually I do want to do the last one.

I put too much thought into my characters' names, probably...but it's fun and gives me something to do besides, you know, actual work. :P  My two main wardens (I know they can't both be "canon," but I love them both and they're so different from one another!) were Regan Cousland (Celtic name meaning "regal") and Rowan Surana (Gaelic for "little red one"...she was a redhead...and I like that the tree is supposed to have magical properties). My canon Hawke is called Arwen, which is Welsh for "noble maiden" and also awesome because of Arwen Evenstar.

My Lavellan will be Maia because it means "brave warrior" in Maori, and because it's also the name of a Greek nymph and a Roman earth goddess, so it's got a nature connection. Fitting for a Dalish! I've got a little list going of names for other Inquisitors too. I like to go looking when my brain gets tired at the end of the day.

This is the best idea ever. Suddenly I want to do another Origins playthrough with Frosta Amell and her trusty Mabari, Hordak.

Also, I'm just gonna leave this here.

I almost always pick the names for fantasy characters from Sindarin, expecially for elves. But sometimes I simply use names from others media I like.

For example, I used Jade for my main Shepard (Beyond Good and Evil) Nathan for the male (Nathan Drake from Uncharted), for example.

but I must admit, even if I like to think to the names way before playng, it mostly depend on the moment: I end up being very instictive, like with my main CE in DAO. her name was Nareth, and I still can't think where I have taken ispiration for that name. But I liked it, and used it every time I have played the CE origin. ^_^

My best process for naming is just taking a name I like and mashing it with another or changing/dropping letters. I've been taking family members names and cutting/changing them. In Sims 4 my Solas' family is wife Penelo (Penelope), and daughters Hayda (Hayden) and Alecca (which is just Alex and my name, Rebecca, combined). I don't like fantasy names that are too out there so, that is how I make them sound a bit more...realistic..I guess. The main character in my book is Stell which just resulted of me looking at names associated with stars (have no idea why I wanted to do this) and I just shortened Stellar or Stella into Stell. So, yeah.

....This release date still feels so far away and at the same time it's like, "We're finally going to meet this guy? Y'know, the bald, sleepy, complicated mage?" So exciting.

I've also been looking for the Dalish word for light without success, my name comes the latin word for light and I thought, well why not name my Lavellan a little bit after me  X) ..

Otherwise, I intended to use Fen as a base, and then add an element I like .. I have things like : Fenlen, Fenadahl, Fenadahlen, Fenatisha, Fenelgar...

I feel like the Dalish are a lot like the Native Americans in their beliefs and their way of life at least (it's part of the reasons why I like them), and their names are often made like that.

65 days for North America! Still feels like forever. I was in Gamestop to pick up Destiny the other day, and I was all like, "You do have my Dragon Age preorder in there, right? RIGHT?!" when he ran my card. I probably made crazy eyes. He did laugh, at least.

I gotta say, this is shaping up to be the best bunch of voice actors I've ever heard in a game. Ramon Tikaram's voice is looooovely. Like buttah. Dying to finally get the Blackwall reveal!

But yeah, finally meeting Solas...I'm glad everyone will be at work and school when I finally get to dig into the game, because when he appears onscreen I'll definitely be grinning like an idiot and/or making high pitched sounds of joy.

I tend to try matching the naming convention of the race (dwarves kill me because there doesn't seem to be a solid convention).  My first Warden was named Lira, which doesn't really mean anything but sounded nice to me and suited her.  My (warrior) Hawke was named Alexandra because the meaning worked, it was reminiscent of Leandra, and because I use A names for all my Hawkes (because I think it's cute that the Hawke siblings would have ABC names).

I'm probably going to use Kerra for both my Trevelyan and Lavellan, although it's a Cornish name (like Trevelyan).  I'm oddly attached to it now, so it would be weird to change it.  It's another name that sounded nice to me, which is usually how I choose rather than for meaning.

I use archaic English or Germanic names for my human characters (ex: Berengar Trevelyan). For elves, I use Welsh, Gaelic or Irish names (ex: Morgan Lavellan). For dwarves, I prefer Scandinavian names (ex: Thea Cadash). And for Qunari, I feel like Arabic names suit them really well (ex: Ashraqat Adaar).

I usually name my males Jack.

......I think I will go for Flynn this time

Spoiler

My first playthrough however is going to be a Female Elf (of course) and her name will be Arya which means Noble. I actually went here:

http://www.arwen-und.../girlnames.html

To look for elven names aaaand I went for the human name instead of the Elven name which would have been Arwen.

I might go for a different name...like Vanya...idk.

And speaking of 80's cartoons I have been thinking about naming my Bog Unicorn

Spoiler

Just for fun...  :D

Oh man just think Thursday will be 2 months till it comes out...9 weeks to go! ^^

I really hope nothing comes up when it's released so I can play it.

So I was thinking about how Solas has lived on his own in the woods for so long and I started wondering about his eating habits. He probably had to hunt for food most of the time and I doubt he was eating a ton before. So I bet he finds it kind of strange being in Skyhold and having food around and on hand all the time.

Now I can't stop imagining that when the Inquisitor goes to talk to him in Skyhold, Solas is always eating something. Like he has a sweet tooth that he didn't get to indulge while living in the wild so he's always munching on some sweet roll or bready thing and the Inquisitor finds it so funny.

A friend of mine then decided that he probably stuffs his pockets full of rolls before they leave Skyhold on a quest just because he likes having food on hand now. Now I have the image in my head that they stop to look at a map to figure out where they're going and Solas just reaches into his pocket and pulls out a roll and starts munching on it. And the Inquisitor gives him a strange look and is like "where the heck did that come from??"

Thinking about Solas is so fun sometimes. I can't wait to meet him in the game!

Since Solas has been linked with a jar a bees, I bet he loves honey.  May be he will encourage the Inquisitor to keep some hives in the grounds of Skyhold.   Put a net around that huge hat of Cole and he would make a great bee keeper.    I can imagine Solas doing a similar sort of thing to Felassan; pretending to look all survivalist chewing on some piece of bark, getting the Inquisitor to try it and then reveal it really is just a bit of bark.   Also growing all sorts of interesting plants in the herb garden to help him with his meditation.    Do you suppose he could be a vegetarian, out of habit if not out of conviction?

I've been doing some looking and it seems like there are quite a few Hebrew names would work for elves and some that could be fused with elements of established names. Ilana, Meira, Nessa, Shira...For those looking for a name that means light there is the Hebrew name Ora, and in Dragon Age II there is 'Orana', so it at least seems to be an element that can be used in elf names. Ora probably isn't the word for light in the DA Elven language, but I guess it's something.

Male Dwarf Inquisitor is probably going to be named Hugor, after Hugor Hill, one of the aliases Tyrion Lannister has gone by in A Song of Ice and Fire.

Lady Trevelyan (who belongs to Sera) is going to be named Philomela after this:

Mine too  :crying:  And take all my likes for The Last Unicorn  <3  <3  <3

On the name subject, mine's a bit weird.  I'm probably going to call my elfquisitor Clarice, after Clarice Starling.  It's not at all elfy, but I've just read Silence of the Lambs (I'm 100 years late :P) and Starling's characterisation is so on-point to how I'm imagining my Lady Lavellan that I just thought, yep, that's her, haha  I have no idea what I'll be calling my Trevelyan, Adaar and Cadash ladies; I usually decide at the last minute in the CC and this is the first time I've planned a bit  :P

My fem elf inquisitor name will be Samus or Vivian  and she will be a mage. Though I antagonize over names as i make my own pc. I'm hoping Solas can be a nice foil to my sassy dalish mage. wondering Solas courting someone would involve giving them dead animals like a cat.

So I'm just going to back up here real quick for a second because I feel like you need to know... I opened that, jumped down to the bottom without looking at what it was about, and then jeRKED BACK SO HARD THAT I FELL OVER ONTO THE DOG. Who then proceeded to yelp and jump off the sofa and land on one of the cats who then proceeded to scream and wail psychotically. Much hissing and barking and running ensued.

Names!

I've mentioned before that I'm going for a sort of trickster archetype with my Inquisitor (a snarky and enigmatic storyteller, usually leaning towards morally good). I didn't want to headcanon any deeper than that before playing the game, but I did start leaning specifically towards a raven or crow theme (because I was drawing).

For a name, I would like to use Dalish for raven or crow, but if I'm not able to find that out, I might use Huginn or Muninn after Odin's ravens Thought and Memory (I would pick one and use the other for when I play a female elf, probably).

Another option would be Harellen, which actually means "trickster" in elvish, but I'm not sure if I want to use it because it seems like it would have a negative connotation (I mean really, being named after Fen'Harel doesn't seem like a good idea). The Dalish version of the trickster archetype reminds me of Loki, which seems more villain than anything. Which is opposed to what I'm going for which is more like Anansi, or like Native American trickster gods like Coyote or Raven.

Wow, that makes it sound like I'm thinking too hard about a name... (honest, this is only five minutes worth of ADHD-powered brain storm).

*shuffles away...*
