Does that mean the one person left can betray you? Or that any companion can betray you?

 

The impression that I got reading it is that the one person left would betray you, but we can't be sure (hell, maybe it could even happen if you still have a few other companions and they just don't hate your guts enough to leave, yet). Still, this is going to be interesting for sure.

Hmm. It is ambiguous then. I am leaning toward the one guy/gal left being the one that can betray you. That would be a challenge to achieve at the level of Shepard failing the suicide mission because everyone is dead.

If the phrasing is correct it does sound like the remaining companion is able to be the traitor. It does say the companion.

edit:  So... the reason I was in here in the first place.  I'm thinking of making Solas into a master pyromancer, with a secondary focus on Spirit.  Just an idea that popped into my head, so I figured I'd go with it...  So long as he learns Barrier though, it probably doesn't matter what else he, or any other mage, can do...

I'm assuming that Solas is going to be a rift mage since he knows a lot about the fade rifts. I keep wondering what kind of spells that spec is going to have. I think they might involve making rifts of energy maybe.

Any ideas?

Well, someone was talking about the possibility of it being an offensive version of Spirit Healer... harnessing power from spirits in a similar way, but for offense.  It sounded reasonable enough when I heard it... it's likely ranged attacks regardless, since KE is close combat and Necromancer is likely to involve summoning... beyond that, I have no clue.

I hope they do. I remember Cameron saying in one of the videos that Solas has some crazy spells...not sure if that meant he has some spells of his own or not.

Well... there is an ability that was mentioned in a Combat Q and A that the devs said that Varric and the Inquisitor could learn.  Because they referred specifically to those two, and based on the nature of the skill, it's become widely assumed that Varric is an Artificer and that only he and the Inquisitor can learn this spec... that sounds like it makes sense, right?  So based on the descriptions of the characters and their backstories, and the descriptions of a few of the specs (KE being taught in the Circle, for example), we can draw some reasonable conclusions about which spec goes to which companion.  Solas seems the logical choice for Rift Mage... however, it's possible that the companions don't have the exact specs as us, but rather they have slight variations on what we can learn.  That part is pure speculation...

I'm kinda hoping it's the latter. I really liked the unique specialization trees everyone had since it was more personalized.

The only problem I worry with those is it locks a character into a certain weapon unless they are more rounded out than before. I'd hate to have, say, Sera's focus on archery and basically never be able to have her use daggers.

Oh don't worry, it's confirmed you can switch all the rogues from archer to DW and vice versa.

Hopefully they'll do it so they get bonuses for both. Like one section of the tree focuses on daggers the other on archery.

Well we know that Varric if hes an archer will never touched another bow because he already got Bianca. I also hope Cole retains his dagger. Maybe some can and other can't. Archer Cole just sounds weird to me, but maybe its a possibility. I just hope the companion specing makes some sense from a lore stand point.

Patrick respecced Cole for archery, so that's in. I'm pretty sure I saw Bianca in the Inquistor's inventory at one point, so I think that implies Varric can be a DW rogue, too. Otherwise, I'd imagine they'd make it like DA2 where you couldn't take Bianca away from him at all.

Any hint of when they're going to stop revealing piecemeal on Twitter and put up the specialisations on the main site?   I'd really like to get an idea of what the new specialisations involve.   Knight Enchanter sounds a bit like arcane warrior but the main thing about the latter was that it enabled you to use armour and higher spec swords.  Being restricted to staff and robes was a real disappointment for me in DA2, until we got the Champions outfit.    We're assuming necromancer has a greater focus of spirit magic and raising the dead but we really can only guess at what rift mage entails   Also assume Solas is the one to teach it to us.    Similar problem with the rogue spec of Tempest, which presumably comes from Sera, since Varric would be artificer and Cole would be assassin.   What's the betting that Rift mage and Tempest are the last specialisations to be revealed?

Didn't they say Solas was a hedge mage and hedge mages and circle mages can't learn each other's magics? I think I saw that as a reason that Solas and Viv grate on each other...

Last night, I had a dream where I was playing DA:I (I get these dreams a lot, actually ) and everytime Solas spoke, I started counting the syllables and accents in his lines to figure out if he's speaking in iambic pentameter or not.

 

The dream might have been slightly inspired by that class last week where I had to analyze English poems.
